Morgellons
Morgellons, Morgellons disease, Morgellon, Morgellons syndrome or the Fiber disease, these are five common names for a (possibly infectious) debilitating skin disorder that was given its name around the year 2002. This name was given to this skin condition by Mary Leitao. People, who suffer from it, find themselves facing a number of different skin symptoms.
People who suffer from Morgellons skin disease tend to suffer from a number of sensations along the infected area. They are crawling, biting, and stinging feelings that are often called formications, by nonbelievers of the skin disorder. A formication is literally an unusual sensation that often mimics the feeling of insect on skin. This is medically well known even though it is unusual.
Different skin problems like rashes and lesions that just do not heal. In this case, treating them with over the counter medications does not heal them. When this happens you need to go talk with a doctor.
There will be things either underneath the skin or so that they can be extracted from the lesions. They include filaments that are fiber-like, as well as granules, or crystals.
You may suffer from things like pain in your joints, muscle, or even connective tissue. This can often include things like fibromyalgia, which is a chronic widespread pain.
If you have Morgellons, then there is a chance that you will also suffer from a devastating fatigue. You may also suffer from something called Cognitive dysfunction. This means that you may have difficulty with concentrating, a problem with your short term memory, and a problem with paying attention. Many morgies call this brain fog.
Talking to a dermatologist, you will often find that they don’t support Morgellons as a real true disease. In fact, when you go to get treatment, it is much more likely that you will be treated for Delusional Parasitosis.
First your doctor will run a few tests to be sure that your skin problems are not caused by any of the known organic causes.
Next your doctor will prescribe you an antibiotic. It could be something like pimozide; this is a favorite because it is an antipsychotic as well as preventing the feeling of itching. It could also be that your doctor just treats you with an antipsychotic to keep you from feeling the buggy sensations. It is actually being recommended that dermatologists change the name to Morgellons just so that people wouldn’t refuse treatment. Nobody likes to think that they are delusional, and a change in name won’t be so offensive.
Another way doctors treat it is by concluding that it is an infectious disease. This is because there are a large and growing number of people who refuse that the diagnosis could be Delusional parasitosis. For this, people undergo a series of antibiotics, antifungal, and anti-parasitic medications. Often there will also be herbal supplements and light therapy.
You may also find that some doctors will put a cast over the infected area for four weeks or more. The thought behind this is that the rashes or lesions will be able to heal without being bothered by the person.
If you believe that you have Morgellons skin disease, you should find an understanding doctor as soon as you can, to keep it all from getting any worse than it already is.
- “I would lay in the bed and it felt like an army of ants just crawling over the bed, all over my body,”
- “It never goes away,”, “It doesn’t die, it doesn’t leave.”
- “creepy and constant sensation of bugs crawling under my skin”
- “I was so humiliated from the three doctors that I went to, that I just refused to go back,”
- “I’m absolutely disappointed, disillusioned and very, very angry at the medical community,”
- “They’d look at me and say, ‘Its dry skin, quit worrying about it.’ I’m saying, ‘This is the weirdest dry skin I’ve ever seen in my life!’”

Hello Frank, has the CDC formally announced Morgellons as a real disease yet?
hello, my sons father and my very best friend died in 2001 He had Morgellons. I am trying to find the number to call the research people. I think I have stumbled across the cause or a link to the disease. I have all the signs of Morgellons around my duplex. the red, blue, white fibers, fuzz etc. My place has an unusual infestation of larvae from a carpet Beetle.
So either they are causing the similarities or there is some link. these larve have caused sinus infections since I have been here, and rash. they can cause boils on people who are allergic. You can not see them as they are less then 1/8th of an inch. They do grow and shed there skins. I have been itchy as well thinking it was the laundry soap.
PLEASE DIRECT me to someone to call. I have to move. i have to leave everything behind that can not be frozen for 2 weeks. The eggs are impervious to chemicals. it makes clear sense to me that this may be the cause They tunnel through soft metal, wool , food, etc even my CD;s This is not a joke.
I have an appt with the housing authority.
tomorrow to figure out how to deal with the owner who will not tent the house.
for skin links google :dermatology and carpet beetle larvae. it is not a well known problem. you will be shocked
I have been tunned into these critters because people thought I was going crazy and I had to prove to them I wasnt. The beetles and larvae ( which cause the problems) were identified by the California Agriculture Dept but the guy doesn’t know half of what the larvae do. I have lived with them for a year now. its everything you all go through but I have no sores I did get a rash 2c
so please email me some phone numbers I am in northern california , Marin County
I have the following symptoms, my head itches, every time i scratch i find little balls of creamy white ganuals, now & again i will find the odd red fiber, both myself & my children have this disease, now doubt the whole household have this. I am very worried, is there a cure or will it be the end of us all?
Sounds like Seborrheic dermatitis to me. You will have to experiment with different shampoos. frequency of shampooing, eliminating possible allergens. Go see a dermatologist. Don’t tell him you think you have Morgellons
Scalpacin is very helpful with the itchy scalp.
Not eating high carbs and sugar is helpful too.
I was told I have this disease of Morgellons and I am getting sicker and sicker and dont know what to do or whom to turn too. A holistic doctor told me what I have and who to get into contact with. She told me to call New York and try to get a doctor from there to help me. We tryed to call 411 but without any help we got no such number. I am begging for someone to give me a name and number so I can get someone to help me understand this disease more and treatment before it is to late for me and my life.
Thank you very much and hope to hear from someone very very soon

Hello Debra, I am very sorry to hear of your troubles. Please join the morgellons forums and you can find people to talk too and some helpful advice.
Go get a second opinion at a dermatologist.
Since 1984. I can’t tell you anything except I should have a degree in epidemiology by now, and still no answers. Why did I have to find this out from a video about ETs on YouTube?
i have been suffering with evidently this disease as a dermatologist told me today after almost 2 yrs of emergency rooms,1st time said i had ‘scabies’ disgusting, prescribed cream that didnt work,2nd time same thing,3rd diff. cream got rid of it in main area. Them different symptoms,my feet, hands, little black things were falling off me. GOT to point i stopped making plans w/boyfriend,couldn’t tell him…I have always been known by all & am a very clean person who is very concerned with my looks, makeup, hair, etc. I just became a hermit. i was not financially able to go to private dermatologist(mo insurance)..Then I finally said i can’t stand it,forget the bill i was to pay & went to a derm.,saw a nurse practioner & assistant that both insisted that i was imagining things, yet they did no tests,i.e.,skin scraping,no mattered how much i insisted they both were saying maybe i should see a psychatrist, prescibed cream & said follow up in 6 wks…unbelieveable,I left crying again. Then my 2 sons, that are 20&21 yrs began thinking i the same, yet never wanted to look at anything on me that was obvious…I was so hoping derm. i went to today, since i was found disabled last year & have medicare, would just check me in hospital, esp.since i am at my worst right now, large sores all over, head itching,it is at its worst. I was hoping for a skin graft but he said i have ‘MORGELLONS” & referred me to another office because he only is there 3 days a wk/half days,so what??he prescribed a cream for itching that instead made my skin go insane & flare up everywhere that i didnt apply…Have appt w/drs.he referred to in 2 days…I want to insist to be hospitalized & treated by i.v. or whatever to rid me of this but i know they will not have the sense of urgency, because its not them
i really need some answers. i am not sure but i think i have morgellons. i have these very tiny black specks under my skin. when i get them out i have sores that wont heal. my knuckles hurt to bend and my skin sometimes becomes calloused when this is happening. i have been goin through this since dec. and i need help.
