Default Earthquake Hits Christchurch New Zealand, 2nd major quake in 5 months

Reports say nearly all the city of Christchurch was destroyed by this second major quake (6.3) within a five month period. So far 65 people are known dead and more are trapped in buildings. Death toll is expected to rise. Please take a bit of time out to send some prayers or just some good thoughts that way, for the survivors and those who are trying to rescue others who are still trapped in the rubble:

i know. my neices daughter just went back there a week ago.. my niece usually lives there, but because my nefew got stage 4 cancer,(26 years old) she came to the staes to help out. her daughter is the one that just went back, she missed her boyfriend... now phones dont work, but texts messages do go through, shes been keeping the family up to date through facebook.mel ( neices daughter) is in aukland now, because their house got wiped out the first earthquake, this time mels aunts house got wiped out..
whats a trip for me, my dad was supposed to go to new zeland for his birthday, last dec..because of aj getting cancer, cher ( neice) came here instead. my dad would have been right there in christchurch.. thats where they used to live...
so yeah, isnt that scary? my prediction is that most people that are so scared of california, shouldnt be.. i think places we never suspect will be hit with the big one and cali will be last on that list.. i dont know why, i just think that.
so the whole familys trying to get mel to come back to the states, but i guess new zeland isnt like around here, people over there actually HELP each other.. thats kinda cool, but nervracking as hell...

Wow, Jane, your story shows how closely connected we all are. It's good to hear that people still have that "I care about others" feeling in New Zealand. It's too bad that nation is perched with all the other islands in the ring of fire as there surely has been a lot of volcanic activity lately. The Philippines was just hit again today as well and Sumatra and nearby islands were hit in 2010. Japan has also been shaking some lately. There is a bit of activity around baja California (Mexico) and also the Gulf of California. Though you are right, so far not a huge amount of activity in CA area. May it stay that way as your feelings predict.

I hope it all works out for your niece Cher and her family including her daughter Mel and your nephew who has cancer and who's here in the US currently (good thing too).

Default Breaking news on the New Zealand Earthquake

Some new stories, video and latest photos of the earthquake damage in Christchurch. 150 people are now feared dead with perhaps even more to be found under the rubble of several large toppled buildings. Utilities are affected and are nearly non-existent in most areas of the city.

"No area throughout the country's second largest city was considered safe as strong aftershocks sent dislodged masonry raining down on to the streets below. Power and water has been cut to most of the city. "

Hundreds of doctors from around the world gathered in Christchurch for a conference are helping in makeshift hospitals established throughout the city.

The power of the quake, which was far more violent one that struck the city in September, caused the cathedral's spire in the centre of Christchurch to crumble and knocked out phone lines.

Several large building were reduced to piles of twisted debris, pipes burst across the city and large holes had appeared in roads.

The city's hospital and airport were evacuated and dozens of shocked and injured residents gathered in open spaces as alarms and sirens sounded across the city.

There were scenes of confusion and chaos as police tried to get people out of the city centre as the earth continued to shake during several strong aftershocks.

Streets were gridlocked, glass carpeted the pavements and power was out to 80 per cent of Christchurch."

The reported story becomes even more horrific as it continues. The amount of reported devastation boggles the mind as even sewers have been ripped up. There is just not enough help to take care of everything which is happening right now on the ripped up streets of Christchurch. Please keep these people in your prayers and your thoughts. All of this helps others in times of great need such as this.

Christchurch earthquake: 150 feared dead on New Zealand's 'darkest day' - Telegraph

More about the 600 plus doctors who were attending a medical conference in Christchurch when the earthquake hit. They are now giving much needed additional help to residents of the city. About 450 of the doctors attending that medical conference are from Australia. How fortuitous these extra doctors are available right where additional help is needed to save people's lives:

thanks, jonsi.. its so weird, you dont think about that kind of thing being close until somebody you know is actually writing real time messages of whats happning, then it hits.. i still think she should come back to the staes, but its mostly darrens family ( my neice Chers husband, native kiwi) that has always lived there, so it be like me being in new zeland, hearing about santa maria,ca being totally destroyed.. i cant imagine...

Hi Jane,

So glad to hear that your family members are still here even if their houses are gone, nothing but mud to show where they were. Things you can replace but people...Yeah, I can see why you want your mel to come back to the states right now. Given the state of Christchurch she may not have a lot of choice as it sounds as if there is nearly no place left to shelter and with the aftershocks what's left is not safe either. It was a shock to see what was left of Christchurch cathedral. I remember seeing a picture of it in our geography books when I was a kid. The scenes from that video I posted made it very real for me even though I do not know anyone from New Zealand. I am sure that much will be rebuilt eventually but right now it must be terrifying as even the airport is closed. I think it must look much like San Francisco did in 1906 after their large quake. Everything is now temporary, even the hospitals are in make shift tents now. I am wondering what's happened to Auckland and the rest of the country. Surely there must have been some shaking there too, but hopefully not too much damage.

All this news about Christschurch and New Zealand, has been sad. I keep thinking of the various posters among the different boards I belong too. Obviously they are sick, broke, and struggling to treat what ails them, and then this on top of it. Can you imagine having your house squished and then dealing with Morgellons along with it. Ugh. My heart and prayers go out.
