Canada's NDP leader Jack Layton is headed to washington to try lending Barack Obama a hand in the fight for health-care reform. Layton has gone to considerable lengths in the past to imitate Obama's cheerful campaign speeches,shirt and tie combinations,and photo-op backdrops,and now will urge Americans to imitate Canada. Layon will tout the merits of universal heath care during a three-day trip in June ,where he'll deliver a pubic speech and meet with Democrats in the White House,in Congress and from pary headquarters.
With the U.S. bracing for a politcal dogfight over health reforms this year,Canada medicare system has been dragged into the debate.
An American conservative group has taken out ads-featuring the former head of the Canadian Medical Association,Brian Day-warning viewers against moving toword a Canadian style system.
But Layton will use speech at the Woodrow Wilson Institute and his meetings with U.S.politicans to defend medicare and explain how it's so popular here that politicians wouldn't dare try scrapping it.
The NDP'Sfounding figure the late Saskatchewan premier Tommy Douglas,is considered the father of universalhealth care in Canada.
Medicare is one of the greatest connections we have to each other.Regardless of your economic status,if you get sick,you will get care.

The statment if you get sick ,you will get care is so untrue we have private insurance to go from Providence to providence,because if you get hurt or sick in a providence you are not from you pay for most of the treetment with your own money.
The Canadian health care system is all about money only.People die on waiting lists because of money.You can't go to any doctor you most go to your family doctor first and if he or she thinks you are ok you can't go to a differt doctor.You can't go to a doctor in other parts of the country for treetmemt.There was a Lyme doctor in BC the only one in wertern Canada you most be from BC with BC health care to go him.He is gone so now there is no Lyme doctor in wertern Canada now.Products like Tylenl cold SelsunBlue,Hyporogen Peroxide,Nix you must ask the pharmacist for it (and he or she can say no)
When you can go ownly to a government agenty for a essential service that is communist Canada is doing away with natural health care the only one out side the government health care.
Jack Layton is leader of the Canadian NDP Party which I think is Canada communist party.I hope the US dosn't go with a Canada like system.

If we get socialized medicine in this country and this community in particular is totally screwed. I know several Docs who have opted out of practicing due to the costs of malpractice insurance etc. The health care industry has been hosed by politicians, tort lawyers and Insurance Company bureaucrats so all Docs practice "defensive Medicine". There will be no incentive for bright young people to go into medicine. People with orphan diseases like this one will never get any attention. There will be no incentive for Pharmaceutical Companies to keep looking for new drugs. Cancer patients are being ignored in Canada what do you suppose will happen to us. Get the government out of health care and go back to Health Savings accounts and personal incentive.
Socialism does not work, how many times does it need to be proven?

Too right lamb, too right (LOL, double entendre here). Anyway, I agree with you. The ruination of health care in the US started under Lyndon Johnson when government got involved in health care for the elderly. That is when everything to do with medicine skyrocketed in price from year to year.

I say drop all insurance for outpatient care and see the prices of doctor visits drop too. There will be a time most of us cannot afford to go for doctor visits, but then, with decreasing patient visits, doctors would be forced to drop their charges for outpatient care. Supply and demand would enter the picture once again.

Next drop all drug coverage for everyone (no insurance, private or government). Watch drug companies drop prices as they will be forced into it. Once these areas are righted then start doing something about hospital costs. Not sure how to tackle that issue, but there has to be a way.

People used to pay their doctors out of their own pocket as most doctors charged prices most people could afford. Doctors had to do this or go out of business. Being a doctor should not guarantee that one makes enough money to be wealthy (many of them become rich, often undeservedly because the least competent receive the same mandated amount of money as those who actually deserve to make more). If doctors do not need to hire staff to fill out insurance forms they will save there too and be able to charge less.

If government health care becomes the rule medical costs will only continue their upward direction, only instead of just paying for your own care (who do you think will be paying taxes for this "free" care after all) you will also pay for those who do not contribute anything to the tax system. And taxes will increase for everyone who pays them, not just for the rich. I know how many folks have extra money lying around to pay them ( ) .
