| I just discovered that horsetail herb (Equisetum) completely fixed my severe anxiety symptoms, as well as the mild psychosis symptoms that can accompany extreme anxiety!! I took a dose of 800 mg of horsetail herb, twice daily, and within a day or two, I noticed a very large improvement in my anxiety/psychosis symptoms, which have both now completely disappeared. I developed what seemed to be a Morgellons-like condition after catching a virus, and horsetail herb is the best thing I have found, after extensive testing of hundreds of supplements, for treating the anxiety/psychosis symptoms. I hope this remedy will be of benefit to others also suffering anxiety and psychosis symptoms. Horsetail herb is very cheap, and can be bought online: see here. Don't overdo the dosage, because taking high doses of horsetail herb for long periods can put strain on the kidneys. |

| Psychosis is defined as a loss of contact with reality (confused thoughts, delusions, lack of insight, lack of self-awarenes). In anxiety disorders, when you get extreme states of anxiety, a mild degree of psychosis often appears. This happened in my case: whenever my anxiety got really high, some psychosis would also emerge. Though the anxiety was always by far the more severe symptom. In my case, there was also an experience of a general unease about reality when I experienced these mild psychosis states. Edit: I should add that Morgellons disease and its symptoms are not delusions, and neither is the idea that Morgellons may be caused by an infectious pathogen, which is quite likely. Nevertheless, extreme anxiety, and some accompanying psychosis, seem to be symptoms of Morgellons. These symptoms certainly appeared as a result of my viral infection (and not just in me: a few other people that caught the same virus as me also manifested such symptoms). | Hi Hip, Good to 'see' you again. I had a lady contact me a couple of years ago to say that horsetail capsules were assisting in reducing her physical symptoms. So your experience is of interest. I have some in the cupboard, so will give it a whirl for 6 weeks and report back on mental and physical obs - I'm not experimenting with anything else, so variables will be few. Take care and happy new year Jo |

| Hi Jo,Po,&Hip, A definite addition to my med cabinet. A description of this herb states it is useful in reducing hemorrhage and healing wounds as it has ahigh silica content that helps the body assimilate calcium, and is healing towards stomach and intestinal ulcers. It can be taken as a tea, tincture, and applied externally to wounds or used in a bath. I haven't found any reference towards use in anxiety but can imagine it helping 'cause its ability to get calcium into the blood and having good calcium is definitely helpfull to the nervous system. One note I found was that long term use is discouraged for it can be irritating to the kidneys and works best in small frequent doses. |

| My container of horsetail capsules says to take a single 440mg capsule 3-6 times a day or make a tea with a capsule. Apparently horsetail is high in sulphur...maybe worth trying as a brew and spraying on skin then...up for it csidegal?! Jo |

| The reasons why horsetail herb has a significant anti-anxiety effect may be because: • Horsetail is a good detoxifier, and can help rectify bowel problems like diarrhea and IBS. IBS can itself create anxiety symptoms. The silicic acid in horsetail pulls toxic aluminum out of the body, and prevents this metal from being absorbed by the body (ref: here). • Horsetail is good for infections of the urinary tract or kidneys. Such infections can cause a whole host of mental symptoms, including anxiety. In my case, I have irritable bowel and UTI/kidney infection issues as part of my condition (it is common to have these additional problems / infections in CFS). This may be why I found horsetail particularly beneficial. Benefits of horsetail herb I have observed: • More or less completely eliminates my anxiety symptoms (and any accompanying psychosis). • Seems to help clear the chronic nasal congestion and sinus inflammation. • Seems to noticeably reduce the brain inflammation (reduces the feeling of inflammation in the head). • Works VERY well for any diarrhea symptoms, greatly improving digestion. These benefits appear within a few hours of taking horsetail herb, so it works fast. Horsetail also improves the skin to a small degree, after a week or so. In long term use, you probably don't want to take more that say 800 mg of horsetail each day (equivalent to around 12 mg of silica), to ensure you don't get any kidney problems. And as csidegalNH said above, it may be best to take in small frequent doses. Notes: • Horsetail is better than silica, as horsetail contains some silica, but also contains silicic acid. Horsetail has lower side effects than pure silica, and is easier on the kidneys. • It may be a good idea to take some vitamin B1 if you take horsetail long term, as horsetail can deplete vitamin B1 (horsetail herb contains an enzyme called thiaminase that breaks down thiamine). Horsetail can also deplete potassium. • Spraying horsetail would not really be a good idea, as silica particles if inhaled can cause problems in the lungs (silicosis). Horsetail is safe to ingest, but should not go into the lungs. • Avoid taking horsetail or silica if you have heart or kidney problems (though note that horsetail is beneficial for tuberculosis or emphysema, and is beneficial for kidney infections). Anhedonia and emotional flatness: The only possible negative effect I may have noticed with horsetail is that it might slightly increase anhedonia and emotional flatness symptoms, but I am not sure about this. Just be on the lookout for this effect. Anhedonia is defined as a loss of the normal feelings of pleasure or reward from life’s daily activities. I believe anhedonia is common in Morgellons. Emotional flatness is defined as a weak or absent emotional response (also called affective flattening). I suffer a lot from anhedonia and emotional flatness, and these two are the next symptoms (on my shopping list of nasty mental symptoms) that I would like to eliminate. Incidentally, very low doses (10 to 20 mg daily) of tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) such as amitriptyline or imipramine are quite good for treating anhedonia, anxiety and depression. I find these TCA antidepressants can be a life saver to take on bad days. By contrast, I found SSRI antidepressants actually made me MUCH worse. | Wow! This is very enlightening, as for the past few years, I had noticed an increasing lack of enthusiasm and happiness on a day-to-day basis in my life, to the extent where my grown children noticed it and actually commented on it. They had said that they didn't think that "Mom is actually ever really happy". Not unhappy, but just blah. I never knew the term and never bothered to research it. My counselor told me that it was her guess that I have been suffering low-level depression for a number of years. I will note that, recently, this condition has improved considerably as I am feeling better overall. I have to attribute part of it to my broader diet, as well as the daily exercise/yoga, and perhaps the ivermectin and most recently, the niacinamide, which is supposed to be an effective antidepressant as well. As to mental acuity, we had the kids over on Saturday for a game night, (again, it's been a few years), and played some word-related games and I won! So my brain fog is also vastly improved, although not completely... Just this morning on the way in to work, I was singing to Madonna on the radio, and realized that I hadn't done that in a long, long time. Thanks for the info! I hope that your symptoms improve and that you continue to find success with the horsetail... Quote:
