Shifting your Immune System to Th1 Has anyone every tried shifting their immune system into the Th1 mode?
As I am sure many people know, the Th1 immune response targets pathogenic microbes that live within human cells, and the Th2 immune response targets pathogenic microbes that live outside human cells. Th1 is called the cell-mediated response. Th2 is called the humoral response; Th2 uses antibodies to attack pathogens.
Quite often pathogens that live within cells will "hack" into our immune system and switch the immune response to Th2 mode (the wrong mode), so that the immune system fights in the wrong place, and thus these pathogens are not eliminated by the immune system.
This is like calling 911, and giving the wrong address of the crime taking place, in order to send the police to the wrong location, so that the criminals can carry on without being targeted by the police.
Heavy metal poisoning can also switch the immune response to Th2, and away from Th1.
Several diseases (like Lyme, CFS, MCS) involve the immune response being incorrectly shifted into the Th2 mode, rather than the desired Th1 mode.
Sometimes, taking supplements that shift the immune response away from Th2 mode, and back to Th1 mode can help clear out the pathogens from the body.
Supplements that shift the immune response to the desired Th1 response include: transfer factor, inosine, oxymatrine, astragalus, AHCC (active hexose correlated compound), Epicor, IP6, grape seed extract.
