Default tanning beds

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone has heard that the use of tanning beds helps with treating morgellons?

Hi GG,

I wonder if you could answer this question since I have no experience whatsoever using tanning beds. Is it a treatment which allows you to remain dry when using them, in other words no sweating? I do not know if it raises body temperature like a sauna which definitely causes sweating.

Another question. How do they keep those beds clean between clients? Do they have something disposable on the bed itself like in doctor's offices?

Thanks.

Hi Ghettogirl and TCM,
I have tried tanning beds in the past personally i believe it could be beneficial because the UV lights are known to be helpful in drying up lesions.yet, on the other hand the amount of time we would need under those lights might be doing us more harm then good.
And i would also be wary of how sanitized they are.it depends on the person whos attending the tanning beds if they are thorough or not.i can't see them being to concerned when they have a lot of people waiting for the beds it gets a quick once over then onto the next its all about the money honey! they do have the standing tanning beds also. its almost summer your better off siiting in the sun with some maybe apple cider vinegar on your scalp!

I have used tanning beds. I have 18 sessions left but haven't tanned in over a year now. I live at such a high altitude (7,500 ft) and it is hard to get a tan here because I burn unless I have a tan first. I am going camping in Colorado next month (9,500 ft) and need to start tanning NOW!

Yes, I sweat when I'm in the tanning bed.

The salon I go to is very small & I know the man who owns it. He cleans the beds between every session.

I'm not sure about tanning beds help with treating "M". I feel like I look better with a tan & maybe that helped me feel better.

Itwl,

Smile tanning beds

I owned a 12 bed salon for 19 years, the bed sanitizer used kills all the normal stuff, I say normal because who knows about Morgellons. We always cleaned between each session and also provided a bottle in the room for those customers that like to re-clean. Some salons will keep the bottle in the hall and don’t mind at all if you re-clean before you tan.
Most tanning beds provide UVA and UVB (UVB is the burning ray) If you have a salon in your area that has a high pressure bed it will be mostly UVA and it does seem to help me, on the other hand regular beds seem to aggravate my symptoms. The high pressure bed does cost more in most salons but it may be worth it to at least give it a try. Hope this info helps.

Default tanning beds

Just to add, there are tanning places that offer standup tanning where you stand for ten minutes or less in an enclosure with UV lights that surround you, and a fan on top. I used to go to treat the blues during winter months, but after reading this post, I think I will try again for this as my bites and scratches are coming back

Default Tanning beds

I would think Prolonged use of tanning beds is not good for the skin.

I love going to tan. I think I look better, healthier with the tan. I don't worry about not wearing make up when I am a bronzed goddess. (LOL)
Tanning is very relaxing for me, and I feel healing also. I have said that about the sun also.

TCM to answer your questions, yes sweating is involved. Usually sweating will bring on "an episode" almost immediately for me. I do not have that problem after I tan. There is a large fan and I believe a smaller one on each end of the tanning beds directly on you which helps in keeping you cool during your tanning session.

They have very strict rules about the cleaning of the beds. It is done after each time a bed is used. You never tan on a bed that hasn't been cleaned.

The type of bed I use is either the stand up or the "Matrix". They both are the high powered beds, they cost a bit more, but the benefits are considerable. Since I am olive skin complected I tan easily. I am able to achieve a rich tan in 2 - 3 sessions equal to 1 month of serious sun bathing, that lasts a couple of months, using the stronger beds offered.

I have heard that there is many benefits due to the type bulbs used with the
tanning beds. It corrects problems with your DNA. Morgellons changes our DNA. (this is where TMC shines with her posts and I am lagging)

I will see about getting more information in support of the benefits of the UVA/UVB tanning beds, etc.

My personal opinion, I feel there are more positives then negatives regarding this. I know how I feel during and after I tan, I jokingly call it my 11 minutes of bliss. (11 minutes maximum time per session on the high powered beds)
Not everything works on everybody with M., that we all have learned. I wish you luck on your fight in combating this awful disease.

Ghettogirl I like the idea of stand up tanning beds. If tanning in moderation it should be fine. I know that some with psoriasis uses tanning beds and it helps them some.

I go outside many times for short periods as I like the sun.

Here is something I found pertaining to tanning beds and looking for more info:The Benefits of Tanning Beds

You might be surprised at the number of benefits of tanning beds. Obviously, the most obvious benefit is developing a wonderful tan. Typically, as summer approaches, people will begin to visit the local tanning salon to establish a base tan so when they do go outdoors in the sun they do not burn, or to develop a rich tan that looks as if they just came back from a vacation in Hawaii. Then, there are other individuals who have a special function to attend whereby they want a healthy glow.

While getting a tan is the first benefit most people think of, in reality, there are other benefits of tanning beds that you might not have considered. For example, in the past few years, new scientific research has been conducted whereby it has been identified that exposure to UV rays actually helps the body create a natural supply of Vitamin D.

Since many unfortunate diseases are linked directly to Vitamin D deficiencies to include both osteoporosis and osteoarthritis, using a tanning bed to increase these vitamin levels is a huge benefit. In addition to strengthening bone, Vitamin D is also essential for the prevention of many forms of cancer to include prostate, colon, and breast.

Some people will tan indoors simply because of convenience. Take people who live in states where sunshine is a rare occurrence. In this situation, a tanning bed can be substituted for the lack of sunlight but keep in mind that because most beds emit from 50% to 100% the UV rays over that of the sun, the individual should be responsible about the amount of time spent in the bed as well as the frequency of use.

Interestingly, the number of men versus women who use indoor tanning beds is just about equal. Most people will tell you that when they have tan skin, they feel better, look healthier, and have a thinner, fit appearance. While there are risks associated with tanning beds, the fact remains that people feel better when they have a tan. For that reason, indoor tanning continues to be a popular solution.

In fact, more than 50% of people who enjoy indoor tanning say that they actually use this form of tanning as a means of controlling how much exposure to the sun they get. In other words, they can determine the amount of UV rays by choosing the schedule time in the "sun."

If you are interested in tanning indoors, just remember that along with several valid benefits there are also risk factors to consider. UV rays are UV rays whether they come from the sun or a tanning bed. Therefore, the amount received must be limited to avoid damaging the skin and eyes. With some good, old-fashioned common sense, tanning beds do provide a means for establishing and maintaining a beautiful, golden tan.
