| The last week I had supream throbing in the back of my neck and head, pluss pain. I took full strength GRAPEFRUIT SEED EXTRACT, put it on the neck and both went away all day now. The thumping is coming back but the pain is gone. |

| I haven't needed to use GSE for a long time, but remember it working on the lesions. Thanks for bringing this topic up for our new members. I used to put a drop on my toothbrush too (add some water first). Itwl, ~jonsi

| Hi Bo, I know without a doubt that GSE works for so many ailments. I'm happy to know it works for pain as well. I am going to try it on my hjp tonight. Glad your pain is gone. Thanks for sharing. gator |

| Hey all, B.O i finally bought this and have been using it on my sons scalp i put it on while he is asleep.hehe i hope it helps him he is only nine but i see his skin texture slowly changing.his dr told me he is showing symotoms of being diabetic he also told me the little pimplish rash on his shoulders and back are one of the first signs of that! i never heard of that.the same day the nurse prac spoted a metallic looking object with a black hair in it embedded in his ear canal! the dr looked at it and said its nothing not to worry about it and left the room!! i hate these idiots they don't care or even pretend to at least!! |

| Robin hope it helps to abate symptoms for your child, they should not have to grow up with any problems. The application while sleeping is a nice touch. I have had also a tiny bit of stinging on the bottom half of the legs where the lesions were, so I will also try it there. What I hope is that the GSE is so distastful to them that it shuts down their ability to grow. With this neck responce I have to wonder now, about the ability of the lesions. I wonder if they are able to adjust blood flow or near cut it off, this also causing pain in the back of the head. In your case Gator I would probably rub it on the lower legs and see what happens above, feet also, yes its clamy so wrap the feet and lower legs with plastic wrap. I would be interested to see if it works its wonder on the hip. Fingers crossed I am betting if it does not work over night it will work out by a weeks end. When I think about my friend, who is now in a wheel chair and they have diagnosed him with stroke like symptoms, stroke like because his symptoms do not exactly meet stroke situations. He has also been found to have lesions of the brain and on the spine, not the visible type, but hidden under the flesh. He also has so much nagging pain in his hip that he never lays down, he can not stand the pain even long enough for a MRI. My shoulder had a growth in the joint, they called it a ulcer, it was so painful I could not lift my arm above my shoulder, this most likely from the ability of this monster to morph when it travels thru the body. My other shoulder starts with this issue now. I had to have surgury to grind out this first growth. If GSE can stop the stranglehold these lesions most likely can apply or blockage they can create on the blood and nervous system. One thing I notice the application on the back of the neck turns up the volume of the tinnitus in the ears, like instantly. After a while it returns to normal. This has got to be a result of how fast the skin absorbs the GSE, there is no other answer for such a thing. Last edited by Baraka Obam; April 6th, 2011 at 10:37 AM. |

| Something to keep in mind is the fact that probably any antimicrobial effects which are found in commercial products sold as GSE are the result of the preservatives found in these products, the most likely one being benzethonium chloride although there are others too. Some of these products may contain little to no grapefruit seed extract itself. If the preservatives were not present in some of the commercial products then a naturally made graperfruit seed extract was tested and found to have no efficacy in itself at all. Triclosan is also found in some of these preparations which is for internal use. Benzethonium chloride is an antimicrobial in its own right, but it is not suggested for internal usage. A quote: "Benzethonium chloride and triclosan are listed by government agencies as a “suspected endocrine toxicant” and “pesticide”, respectively." Grapefruit Seed Extract Preservative — Safe for Homemade and Natural Products? :: hippie dippie bébé From wiki on GSE: "Grapefruit seed extract (GSE), also known as citrus seed extract, is a liquid derived from the seeds, pulp, and white membranes of grapefruit.[1] Self-made natural GSE processed in the laboratory without solvents or synthetic agents is prepared by grinding the grapefruit seed and juiceless pulp, then mixing with glycerin.[1] Commercially available GSE sold to consumers are made from the seed, pulp, glycerin, and synthetic preservatives all blended together.[1] Grapefruit seed extract is sold as a food supplement and used in cosmetics because it is a claimed natural antimicrobial.[2] An early proponent was Dr. Jacob Harich (1919–1996).[3] A long time promoter of GSE was Aubrey Hampton, the founder of Aubrey Organics.[4] Some marketers of GSE affirm this extract to be a safe, natural, and an effective preservative.[5] This extract has been stated by some practitioners of alternative medicine to possess antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties.[3] It has been recommended by some nutritionists for the treatment of candidiasis, earache, throat infections, and diarrhea.[3] GSE is promoted at health food shops and on the internet.[6][7] There are conflicting scientific demonstrations of the efficacy of GSE.[1] Suspicions about the true nature of the active compounds in GSEs arose when synthetic additives were found in commercial products.[2] Suspected counterfeit grapefruit seed extracts were adulterated with synthetic preservatives.[8][9][10] When preservatives were not present in some of the extracts, laboratory tests found the natural extracts had no natural antimicrobial attributes of their own.[5] Some manufacturers of GSE have stated that their extract has compounds nearly identical to benzethonium chloride, but a 2001 study supervised by chemist G. Takeoka has documented that commercial GSE preparations contain the synthetic compound benzethonium chloride that could not have been made from GSE.[5] Efficacy Anecdotal claims for an antimicrobial effect are based on a few abstract scientific experiments which show some antimicrobial activity for commercial grapefruit seed extracts and an ethanol grapefruit seed extract but not a natural GSE.[17][18][19] The preliminary studies for the antimicrobial effect state that the Citricidal commercial brand of GSE was used for testing.[17][18] There is considerable scientific evidence that the anti-microbial activity associated with grapefruit seed extract is attributable to the contamination or adulteration of commercial GSE preparations with synthetic antimicrobials or preservatives.[2] According to the 2001 GSE study, branded commercial GSE preparations were contaminated with synthetic benzethonium chloride that was implausible to be made from grapefruit seeds.[5] Some of the marketers claimed that their product does not contain benzethonium chloride and the error was due to the similarity in molecular weight of the quaternary ammonium compound which was formed through a proprietary manufacturing process.[5] It is inconceivable that the preservative benzethonium chloride is formed during any extraction and/or processing of grapefruit seeds and pulp.[5] Researchers conclusively demonstrated the presence of benzethonium chloride in commercial GSE using various analytical methods including HPLC, one- and two-dimensional NMR, PIXE analysis, and electrospray ionization MS.[5] Another in vitro study claimed GSE had antibacterial properties.[19] As with the branded in vitro test[17][18] this extract was contaminated.[5] The ethanolic grapefruit seed and pulp extract tested was prepared or contaminated with ethanol, a chemical solvent used in the extraction process.[19] Ethanol, also known as ethyl alcohol, is effective in inhibiting bacteria.[20] Nevertheless, as a result of marketing by manufacturers in the health food arena and a few misinterpreted studies conducted in vitro that tested contaminated extracts which were not pure GSE processed without solvents or brands which are known to contain preservatives, the controversy over the effectiveness of GSE continues even when studies concluded self-made pure GSE has no natural antimicrobial properties and commercial GSE has been identified with contamination from synthetic preservatives.[1][2][5][6][21] Independent studies have shown that commercial preparations contain the compound benzalkonium chloride, which is a synthetic antimicrobial commonly used in disinfectants and cleaning products, the related compound benzethonium chloride, the antibiotic triclosan, or the preservative methylparaben.[1][6][21] Some samples were shown to contain up to 22% benzalkonium chloride by weight, despite the known allergenicity[22] and toxicity[23] of the compound at higher doses.[6] These chemicals were not present in grapefruit seed extracts prepared in the laboratory, and GSE preparations without the contaminants were found to possess no detectable antimicrobial effect.[1] Although citrus seed extract is sold in health food markets,[6] there is no good evidence for any natural antimicrobial activity.[1][7] A study that examined the antiviral properties of GSE found that GSE had no efficacy as a disinfectant for feline calicivirus and feline parvovirus.[24] Grapefruit seed extract has been advocated to be a powerful antimicrobial with proven activity against bacteria and fungi. However, independent studies have shown the efficacy of grapefruit seed extract as an antimicrobial is not demonstrated. Although citrus seed extract is claimed to be a highly effective plant-based preservative by some natural personal care manufacturers, studies asserted that the universal antimicrobial benefits associated with GSE are merely from the presence of synthetic preservatives. Natural GSE has no antimicrobial properties.[1][2] Newer studies found many commercial grapefruit seed extracts contaminated with synthetic preservatives.[8][9][10] In a 2007 study the main synthetic antimicrobial agent identified in commercial GSE samples was benzethonium chloride.[8] In a 2008 study synthetic disinfectants such as benzethonium or benzalkonium chloride were identified in most of the commercial GSE products.[9] In a 2008 study suspected counterfeit products were determined to contain benzethonium chloride in grapefruit seed extract samples.[10] Controversy GSE usage has been popularized by many companies within the scope of the health food industry.[5] There are books exclusively dedicated to GSE.[3][41][42] This extract is promoted by marketers on the internet and some health food stores recommend its use.[5][7] Some consumers believe this extract is an effective natural preservative even though multiple scientific studies have concluded that the universal antimicrobial activity is merely from contamination with synthetic antimicrobials.[1][2][5][6][21][39] “ GSE is marketed as an all-natural and perfectly safe health food product, when it is neither. Various Citrus species have been used as a food and medicine in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. While they have many many benefits, neither Chinese nor Ayurvedic medicine has ever advocated the use of Grapefruit seed or any other Citrus seed in acute infectious disease: this alone should provide some clue as to its effects or lack thereof. | Robin, do not worry about his well being, this situation has to change. The illness is not yours, you do not own it, this is not because of you, it is because we are humans and we have gotten sick, it is nobodys fault. Please get that out of your mind and instead think of this, it is because you are here that your child has life. it is the greatest gift man will ever have. If he has smiled and laughted just once it is better than never to have lived. Things will get better Robin. I did take this internally but I am afraid of my other issues getting worse, it can be taken with, what else, grapefruit juice. If I were you I would read up on internal dose, remember he is smaller than a adult, keep an eye on stool changes, and any other things you can imagine. Such as tongue, color if his tongue has white plack or other colors, it should in time become pink and nice once again, surface should become smooth with no geographic lines in it, tiny pink spots in time went away also. |

| If I were Robin I would surely think hard and long about ever giving a child, no matter what the internal dose, some benzethonium chloride, tricolsan or any of the other never meant to be ingested products contained in GSE. As highlighted in one quote from my prior post here preservatives found in GSE products are potential endocrine toxins and pesticides. Do any of us truly want to see a younger child who is still developing exposed to yet more unsafe products, especially ones which harm the endocrine system of the body? Maybe some do not care, but I for one do care. This product is not even close to being a natural product. "Chemical manufacturers take the leftover grapefruit pulp, a waste by-product from grapefruit juice production, and in an intensive, multi-step industrial chemical process, change the natural phenolic compounds into synthetic quaternary ammonium compounds. Typically, in chemical synthesis of this type, chemical reagents and catalysts are used under extreme high heat and pressure or vacuum. Synthetic ammonium chloride is one of the chemical catalysts used in this process."GSE is marketed as an all-natural and perfectly safe health food product, when it is neither. | I do not know what is working in the GRAPEFRUIT SEED EXTRACT, i do not care if it is monkey poo, I only know that it has some real results attributed to it. If you put some in your moth it tastes like super strong grapefruit taste and will pucker up your lips right now. I wonder is this nasty strong grapefruit taste not grapefruit, did they have a taste test done by people of chemicals and say, which one tastes most like nasty strong grapefruit. Maybe! But I do not know and I do not care, as for my imagination working over time I have pictures to back up what has happened when I used the mixture called Grapefruit seed extract. I wonder what the juice people do with all the seeds they take out of the juice, they must sell them, thats part of business. Do they keep them from the GSE people, do they charge alot for the seeds so there is only a tiny drop in each bottle, oh the scoundrels, I would like to meet these grapefruit seed hoarders. Then like I have said many times, whatever is in it, it works, so I do not care so much about the warnings. Traditional Chinese medicine has the same bad rap, TCM, how much of it is actually what it says it is, there are no real charts on efficiency, nope, just the say so of this or that guy who read a book from the master, of masters of the master. Well I do not know, the country was so full of natural health stores in China, I wonder why, they are second only to womens cloths, hmmm, could the Chinese be wrong, could people that use tcm methods be wrong, if they are not wrong then why are they still sick, if all Chinese are well from tcm then why do they have stores, I do not know, do you know? I do not like to be wrong, do you, so from what I have learned from this tainted concoction I will tell the story and you my dear should tell yours. Start with, Traditional Chinese Medicine if it comes from China it most likely has contaminates in it, the water used on the plants is likely sewage, there is probably insects larva and parasites in it and quite literally with the rampant thievery going on we do not even know if it is what it says it is. Then we have to trust the master to read all the books which are literally not in his language, dialects are quite different there. hmmmm So you see my special friend not anything is how we perceive it these day, unless we like to dream still my dream and my PICTURES show them to be one and the same, factual |
