no need to shout. I was told by the dermatoligst there were no bugs, and that my lesions were folliculitis. I said why the itchy skin and biting sensations and he said "some people just have itchy skin." Hardly a satisfactoy diagnosis and my only treatment was antibacterial wash. In his letter to my GP (i'm in the UK) he concluded my sympoms are "consistent with morgellons syndrome" and that if there is no improvement pimozide (an antipsychotic) may help. Many dermatologists without question categorise morgellons as synonimous with delusions of parasitosis. Because I had mentioned bugs I did not get a proper evaluation as he had pre diagnosed DP, so agree that mentioining symptoms only is a better way to proceed to avoid colouring a doctors view. I have agreed to see specialists at a psychological centre and discussed my issues. After a long discussion they have not labelled me delusional but I went more for coping strategies. I am open to speculation on the cause of my symptoms and I would even consider trying their medicine just to see the outcome. The fact is many people with similar problems have been cured with these drugs and some people reading this will really have DP, and would have their life back if they complied. I'm not saying morgellons isn't real, just worth bearing in mind. I don't know what category I am in.

Kira, My heart goes out to you, for the poor way you were treated. Eventually, they'll stop labeling people DOP when they see enough patients and start to get educated. I went to a dermatologist last week and told him I felt itching, biting and crawling on me. He listened to my whole story and I think sympathized. I brought him an article to read which he glanced at. He said, obviously you are more educated on this than I am, but I have nothing to give you to make it go away. What do you want me to do? I said, "I want you to talk with your colleagues, I want you to contact scientists, parasitologists and pathologists and get to work!" He said to me, "There are many strange things out there like this disease where fibers..." "You mean Morgellons," I said. "Yes. "And what do you think of Morgellons?" "I just don't believe it." I was flabbergasted. I wish I had my wits about me because I would have liked to ask just what he would say to the not quite 15,000 families registered with The Morgellons Research Foundation. ...I just don't believe you?! He suggested I see the psych group of his organization and I politely declined. I'm done with doctors.

I can only hope the AMA will someday ban Big Pharma from paying for doctors' continuing education training and there will be a hefty fine levied on any doc who misdiagnoses Morgies w/DOP. (no psych referrals, either!) License Revocation would be nice. Sorry for all the bad treatment by docs for you posters here...Glad you folks got yourselves better, anyway! Kudos!!!

yes, for the "sensations" in my head and for my anxiety. granted, i can be a high strung person anyway, but medicine is not going to make these feelings go away...but oh, how i wish it would.

| I was diagnosed by a Dermatologist with delusional parasitosis. I left her care the minute I felt that she was not taking this seriously. She did not suggest that but the partner of my primary doctor gave me anxiety medication after she read the first doctor's report. The DSM IV states that one must scratch marks but have NO sign of parasite infestation (paraphrased). If you have lesions caused from the bites, then you can't just make them yourself. Some doctors need to be educated, don't they? Quote:
