Default diatomaceous earth

I received a 5 pound bag of food-grade diatomaceous earth yesterday, but I have some questions about how to handle it. First, what is the best way to store it? I'm thinking of looking for a large plastic container at Walmart, but maybe there's a better way?

Also, how much do people usually take, and do they just mix it with water?

Thanks.

Yes, what Kat said.

One thing I would add that I wish I had done was use LOTS of caution in storage and handling.

My DE is in thick plastic containers w screw on lids. That part is great. I wouldn't keep it in a plastic bag because I've seen some of the things can go right through the thin plastic. Also, I bought tiny disposable cups for scooping and labeled each container for a different purpose, i.e., "external," "internal," etc.

BUT... I stupidly double-dipped. Sometimes I used my hand when I was rubbing it on my body. After realizing how contagious we are to ourselves (not so much to most others IMO) I WISH I had been much more rigorously, obsessively careful not to risk even one bit of contamination. (I am throwing out the containers and coontents where I DD'd.)

I think it would be safe to use in the garden.

Dave,
You can mix it with anything. (I don't suggest DE martinis, though ) I used juice or tea and only as much as I could drink with a few gulps. Tastes like chalk...not too bad. You can squeeze some lemon in it. Be careful not to inhale the powder through your nose or mouth.

I drank it at night and found it to be somewhat of a cleanser as well by morning.

Kat,

I think I'll dilute in water and water my plants with it. I've noticed a fungus in the soil.

Shocker!

Krittsi..I threw ALL of my plants out, since there was a lot of fungal (white) growth in the soil...plus plants attract insects..!

Take no risks...

I know I should, Kat. No excuse for my ignorance and lack of action in that dept. I didn't buy a real Christmas tree for that reason...(a good fake too expensive for me right now) so I put ornaments on my palm plant. ;-) I figure I'll keep nailing them with diatomaceous earth and soap and probably will do some MMS. (which I was intending to begin today, but with my horrendous sinus infection and acidic body I thought the herxing would be out of control).

I think I'll start a thread on plants! thanks! xoxoxoKritts

Hi all... Just to give you a little ease when using and storing... don't worry too much about double dipping, the DE acts like a sponge yes but once it absorbs it doesn't release it. It also continues to absorb until that particle can not hold anymore. So IMO you shouldn't have to toss and replace bc you double it, it absorbs whatever is in the air so when ever you open the container it is taking in something. I would say to make it easier and purchase a couple large glass or plastic containers with lock n lock lids or screw lids, and remove your individual amounts by a small glass cup. When I take mine to work I put it in a sandwich baggy and mix in Panna water when I am ready to take it.... Just wanted to help you not spend extra $ and take away xtra worries as well as making it easier to use and store. Xoxo Meg280
