Pyrantel Pamoate revisited

Dear Friends,

I just thought it may be beneficial to pass this one along.
Back in 2006 when I first became aware of this condition I
used all kinds of anti-helmentics, including Pyrantel Pamoate.

I knew very little at that time and only used the dosage on the over the
counter bottles label having very little results. Thinking this was of no use
I put it behind me and moved on.

Recently I've noticed a Medical Letter (which is generated by the CDC) saying that Pyrantel Pamoate can be used for three days at the same dosage as the one day for certain conditions.

On Friday I purchased some Pin-X (Pyrantel Pamoate) which is a relatively safe anti-helmentic in chewable tablet form which tastes like oranges.

My husband was entirely skeptical!!! "We've TRIED THAAAAAAAAAT he moaned!!!"
I put it to the test. I said "If all of the spots on my rump show improvement will you then believe me??" We have grown sooooo skeptical that we require proof even something new discover within our own relationship. *sigh*

Well guys, the three day was/is great. I was getting horribly worse lately, almost to the point where I couldn't even think straight due to no sleep from itching.

The dosage of 11mg per kilograms of body weight by mouth for three days equals quite closely to the dosing for one day on the label of this drug.

If you are unsure use this kilogram to pound conversion chart then multipy by eleven.

Here is the EXACT product I used. Do not use the liquid as it has a lot less pyrantel in it. The chewables have 750 mg's per pill. The liquid only has 50mgs per dose.

good to see you (read you ;-) again! thanks so much for sharing that and I'm glad for you that it helped. Sure worth a try for all the people with excessive itching (Philly guy et al)...and maybe even those with lesions as well.

The one link says 'hookworm'! I wonder if vets suggest it for pets too?

Hey Kritters,

Nice to see you as well. I'm glad you brought this up. I/we are also treating our dog for this as well. They have a doggie version at a lesser version at some pet stores.over the counter or online. The liquid version is much less expensive than the two pill packet. (what a rip-off). We are giving him Worm-X.

Better safe than sorry.

P.S. This article is actually what prompted me in this general direction. The hair and the scalp being basically untreatable topically or orally...thus far anyway by anything else.
