Default Center for Occupational and Environmental Medicine

Someone on another board has made an appointment with this medical center in South Carolina:

"Center for Occupational and Environmental Medicine".
http://www.coem.com/aboutus.shtml

The Center for Occupational and Environmental Medicine is one of the few resources for the practice of Environmental Medicine in the entire Southeast. We have been providing comprehensive treatment for pediatric and adult patients for nearly 30 years. Since the pioneer days of Louis Pasteur 140 years ago, medicine has been fixated on the role of microorganisms as the cause of disease. Now, as we enter the 21st century, we are more aware of the air we breathe, the foods we eat, and the chemicals that pollute our air, food and water as a cause of disease. Included in these environmental factors are also all forms of radiation.

We find environmental factors to be especially important in chronic illness. People are often astounded to learn that their chronic pain and their
multiple signs and symptoms involving almost every organ and tissue in their body was being caused by foods they were eating, pollens or molds they were breathing, and other environmental triggers. The age old questions asked by all patients, “Why me?” and “Why now?”, do have answers.

Environmental Medicine encompasses three important segments of medicine: allergy/immunology, toxicology, and nutrition. Identification and treatment of food and inhalant allergies, infections, nutritional deficiencies, and toxicity are just some of the many facets of our comprehensive treatment programs. The majority of our patients have been previously evaluated and treated by multiple other specialists, without relief of their symptoms. We take the time to develop and monitor individualized treatment plans designed to heal the whole body, not just relieve symptoms.

Dr. Allan Lieberman, our founder, the medical director and a former pediatrician, is board certified by the American Board of Environmental Medicine (ABEM) and a member in good standing of the American Academy of Environmental Medicine. He has been practicing medicine for 48 years.

Our doctors are supported by a team of 15 professionals who staff our in-house services: medical laboratory, allergy testing department, allergy extract mixing lab, thermography lab, Biodetoxification Center, administrative staff, and clinical and health education support for our patients. In addition, we have a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Massage Therapist available by separate appointments.

The Center is housed in 10,000 square feet of environmentally safe medical offices, making it a restful haven for the chemically sensitive.

We invite you to review our entire website and/or feel free to personally call us at (843) 572-1600 and ask questions. We welcome the opportunity to partner with you in gaining optimal health. The Center for Occupational and Environmental Medicine is one of the few resources for the practice of Environmental Medicine in the entire Southeast. Here is a snip from the person who will be going to this center:

"Just as an FYI for others who live in this part of the state. . . The staff is knowledgable and warm. A real pleasure to talk to. Their services are a bit "pricey" for my current situation but reasonable on average for the services and follow up they provide. Unfortunately they do not accept insurance of any kind but they will give you all necessary forms you may need so you can file a claim on your own.
The initial consultation ($525.00) lasts 3hrs and encompasses a full medical history followed by an hour and a half with the doctor to review the history and recommend any needed labs and/or treatment options. As silly as it sounds, just being able to sit with a doctor for that length of time and have him actually take me seriously and listen to what I have to say will be money well spent. (As a strange little twist I'm actually very excited to be going to the doctor!)
Prior to your appointment they send you a detailed information packet describing their services and fees so you know what to expect.
As with everything else I have tried I am not expecting a cure but at least now I have the possibility of long lasting relief."

I will keep you posted on her progress. It seems this place offers pretty much most of the things that we know help our condition, and they do diagnostic tests as well. They have a lot of Lyme cases, so I am guessing they've seen their share of Morgies as well. I don't think they would be able to list it on their website, though, considering the non-existence of this monstrosity.

Well, I just called this place and said I was calling for a friend (pretty much true!) and asked if they have treated Morgellons. And the answer is YES!!!
This is very good news for people who live in N.C.! Although they don't accept insurance, they give you the paperwork to file for reimbursement from your insurance.
Carla - any chance you could start a sticky for "doctors who treat Morgellons"? This kind of thing is important and could get quickly buried.
I am kind of excited about this place. Go to their website and look at the treatments they offer, and you'll see why they probably have good success!

I started a thread called Finding a Doctor to Help (Under General Discussion) with links for suggested ways to find a doctor which Carla has stickied. In that thread I included a suggestion to contact Carla who has lists for both lyme and morgellons doctors. Depending on the doctor some do not want to be easily found on the internet (fear of action from medical boards who have been known to target alternative and lyme doctors). Since these doctors are already online with their information it would be great if you could add that to this thread.

TCM - OK, thanks - will do.

I just read on LB that this center was listed on the old NUSPA board. It was given the "seal of approval". One of the moderators over there has spoken with one of the doctors and thinks he is right on.

Thanks SS. If any doctor seems to be interested in treating those who have morgellons (sounds as if you have a good lead there with that center SS) and does not mind being posted on the forum, I hope they will be added to this thread by other members:

Finding A Doctor To Help

The more information is located in one place the better. If anyone has any leads for other countries besides the US it would be good to post those doctors too. There are already a couple of leads for UK on the thread. However I think Slovenia and Kat mentioned a place in Germany too. I will try to find that information and post that info on that thread too. Hopefully gathering information into one place will be helpful to more people.

Also the two lists of doctors Carla has do have some doctors listed who are in other countries, including Canada and some other European countries. Be sure to check with her as there may be something closer to you than you think.
