| I have CFS and am suffering from a variety of mood disorders, from extreme constant anxiety, to emotional flatness, general loss of desires and taking pleasure in daily life (anhedonia), depression, loss of motivation, loss of desire for socialising, and others. I have now mostly remedied the anxiety problem with an effective anti-anxiety protocol - see the post "Magnesium - A Very Powerful Anxiety Cure". But even when you address the anxiety, the other mood disorders / emotional imbalances still need to be fixed. Note that although I have CFS/ME (chronic fatigue syndrome / myalgic encephalomyelitis) rather than Morgellon's, there is a huge similarity of symptoms between Morgellon's and CFS. In CFS, the mood disorders arise from problems in the the hypothalamus - a central control region of the brain that mediates hormones and emotions. In CFS, it is believed that the hypothalamus is under attack by an ongoing low-level viral infection, and then a whole cascade of imbalances arises because of this. There are a number of herbs and vitamin supplements that can support the hypothalamus, and in taking these, I have often found that a more balanced and normal emotional disposition quickly returns to my mind. For anyone who wants to try these, the herbs and supplements that return emotional balance are: Myrrh herb powder (500 mg twice a day) Korean Ginseng (500 mg twice a day) Royal Jelly (1500 mg twice a day) Using one, two, or preferably all three of these, in combination with a good anti-anxiety protocol (see above), will get you a long way to feeling mentally / emotionally balanced. These three are also reasonably good anti-anxiety supplements, so they help with further lowering anxiety as well as rekindling your emotions. For depression, a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED supplement is the herb: Neem leaf (500 mg twice a day). Neem is a very powerful serotonin booster (serotonin is your brain's happy chemical). Low serotonin not only causes severe depression, but can cause anxiety, sensitivity to noise, etc. Neem remedies this, so neem is an extremely effective anti-depession and anti-anxiety herb. Neem has powerful immune enhancing properties too, so it may even help fight off the Morgellon's microbe. Neem leaf capsules are quite cheap, so everyone with Morgellons disease should try neem. You will notice its mood-boosting, and deeply soothing effect on the mind within an hour of taking it. Highly recommended. For those that are also suffering a loss of motivation, try these hormone boosters: Tribulus Terrestris herb (500 mg twice a day) Pregenolone (25 - 50 mg once a day) Tribulus Terrestris boosts testosterone, and testosterone is often low in CFS patients, leading to loss of motivation. Pregenolone is one of the body's "master switch" hormones, so gentle supplementation with this can boost your general motivational drive. Be careful with these two, however, since if you take slightly higher doses, you can become a little aggressive, which is not what you want. Introduce these cautiously, observing your behavior carefully. Having said that, the herbs themselves are very safe, so there is nothing to worry about, other than becoming too keyed up. But interestingly, when you take tribulus Terrestris to boost testosterone, you find that the frailty and vulnerability in your mind gets greatly reduced, which is a welcome feeling. Finally, very low libido is a common problem in CFS, and one herb that can quickly fix this is the Indian herb Ashwagandha (also called Winter Cherry. Latin name: Withania somnifera) The nice thing about Ashwagandha is that, in addition to returning your sex drive, it is also a powerful anti-anxiety herb in its own right - so you get two for the price of one. Of course, none of the above supplements are a cure for Morgellon's or CFS, but they will get your mind working much better, and then you can dedicate more time and energy in pursuing that elusive cure. It has taken me several years to test out various herbal and vitamin supplements on the market, and find out which ones are effective for my condition; I hope that this info will benefit the Morgellon's community. | Hip - Thank you for taking the time to write this up for us. Neem has a lot of other effects as well - some people have reported a near-complete reversal of physical symptoms (biting, crawling, stinging, etc) associated with Morgellons. I see that you are a member since 2007. I am wondering how you found yourself here, and continued your interest. ![]() SS |

| Hi Sadsack That is interesting what you say about neem. I did not know neem has already been showing success as a Morgellon's treatment. I only discovered its virtues recently, so this is why I am waxing lyrical about it. In answer to your question, I found myself interested in Morgellons (and this site) because at one point, I though I might have Morgellon's. I had serious anxiety problems for 6 years, after catching a respiratory virus. This virus also caused skin wrinkling symptoms, constant pins and needles (paresthesias) all over my body, weakening legs and hip-girdle, horrendous anxiety levels, often bordering on psychosis, severe depression and anhedonia, loss of short term memory, inability to recall words, loss of sense of smell (for a few years, now returning), which therefore lead to a loss of ability to taste, loss of hearing acuity, blurred muddy vision, constant sore throat, constant congested nose (with unusually thick, heavy mucus), sudden onset of periodontal disease, and more. This seems quite similar to Morgellon's. However, neither myself, nor anyone in my social circle who caught this virus, displayed any skin fibers. So I think it is probably chronic fatigue syndrome that I have, not Morgs. I cannot post URls here yet, but if you Google "Chronic Sore Throat / Mood Virus", you will find my blog describing my symptoms. And there are several people who frequent my blog with the same terrible symptoms. Nevertheless, I think there is a lot of similarity between Morgs and CFS, so remedies that work for one may also help the other. And since I know how bad severe anxiety can be, I am keen to share anything that works. Last edited by Hip; September 20th, 2009 at 04:01 PM. |

| That's a good suggestion, and I have looked into toxic mold, and into other toxins that might that might have entered into in my home environment. I have done a thorough check, so I don't think it is this. Also, I have stayed out of my home (on holiday) for several weeks, and there was no improvement in my symptoms. Also, the virus I have has slowly passed to various friends and acquaintances, living in different places, and it has caused very similar symptoms in thee different people. So I know for sure it is the virus, and not my home. |

| staying out of your home doesn't automatically correct your health. Mold (fungus) is more horrific than you think, and once it's in your body....it takes over and it takes a lot of effort to get rid of it...if you can. |

| Hi Hip, I wonder if you have ever been tested to see what exact virus you have had? I ask as I have been tested for four herpes type viruses and was positive for two, herpes simplex 1 (cold sores)and HHV6 (roseola). The doctor called them re-activated viral infections and is treating me with acyclovir. I think that more people who have CFS/ME and morgellons than are aware of it could have these types of re-activated infections. tcm

| Yes, absolutely. In CFS, which is usually caused by a virus, the immune system is weakened by the virus, and this opens the door to lots of opportunistic infections. As these secondary viral, bacterial fungal infections appear, they can make your symptoms worse. I had a hell of a problem with a fungal skin infection that I could not get rid of. I tried everything, lots of herbs, and some powerful pharmaceutical anti-fungals, topical and oral. The only thing that worked was, surprisingly, bicarbonate of soda, which apparently is one of the most powerful anti-fungals you can get. I have been tested for quite a few viruses, but all tests came back negative (or in a latent state). But chronic coxsackievirus B infection (which is what I think I have) cannot be easily tested for: the normal lab tests are not sensitive enough. Last edited by Hip; September 20th, 2009 at 10:32 PM. | Hello Hip, May I ask how you used the bicarbonate soda for your skin fungal infection. Did you put it on your skin, or injest it? Is this common Baking Soda? If you put it on your skin, could you tell us how you diluted it. In other words, how much water you added. (Many of us have fungal skin infections and use acid based treatments like vinegar.) Thanks, PMR |

| I'm wondering if that many ppl w Morgellons truly have a mood D/O such as bi-polar. I have worked w those w severe mental illnesses (including bi-polar) Dxs for many years. I have a hard time believing the psychiatric Dxs given to ppl who have Morg are accurate. I was diagnosed w CFS years and years ago, but had no accompanying anxiety or mood D/O. So far w the Morgellons I absolutely do not have a mood D/O of any kind even though I have had times when I was very angry, very scared, and very sad. But all these responses were normal, healthy, ENVIRONMENTAL related responses. |
