Default salt/vit c protocol

I am currently being treated for Lyme with a long course of antibiotics. However recently someone told me about the salt/vit c protocol and tried it. It really worked. No more specks in the hands, almost none in the feet etc. However I started to get headaches and my doctors at the Borrelia clinic in Augsburg advised me to come off it.

Now I'm off the protocol my condition is worsening still further. Instead of just a few dots in the bed I am finding them all over. And this is after thorough showering with anti-fungal shampoo, shower brush etc so. It seems it has now spread all over my upper body too. And with this has also come itching all over my body.

I spoke to Dr Schwartbach at the clinic and he told me to stay off this protocol and stick with the Lyme treatment. His theory is that once the Lyme is cleared things will get better. Not my theory but...

Have other people found that all the salt does is halt the outpouring of these specks but doesn't stop them? - indeed makes things far worse when you stop? More or less just like taking Ivermectin which halts things until you stop taking it? If this is the case then surely you couldn't keep on taking salt like this for ever just to stop specks appearing - can't it have extremely harmful effects on the organs in the long term?

I'd appreciate comments/advice especially from those who've gone through this very same scenario.

Regards

Hi Barrie,

Here's a bit of discussion from the past (2007) about the Vitamin C/salt protocol. I think you may enjoy reading it:

Salt and Vitamin C protocol tips to follow

If you enter a search on the search engine on the first page you may find more references, but with 11 pages coming up from my search I did not continue after I found this thread. I started with the oldest posts first as this was a time when people on the forum were more likely to be helping each other rather than posting about what appears to be pseudo science.

best for better health, tcm

Dear Slovenia,

The Salt/C protocol was the first me and my husband tried in 2006.
We bought our own capsules and tried various approaches on how to ingest the salt aspect to no avail. We tried different types of salt and dosages also. It made us both want to vomit. This went on for about three months until we both decided enough was enough. It honestly made little difference. It may very well have worked for others. I can only speak for myself and my family. The high Vitamin C dose did give some relief from the itching providing your stomach can take that. I even tried buffered and various forms of that and my stomach is just too sensitive for that protocol.

Good luck to you.

Morgan

I am sure I had a Herx, which going by the notes about building up to it that I've just seen was probably not surprising. I will make another attempt but first two questions:
- I would like to ask anyone with medical experience/knowledge if it might be better to let the antibiotic treatment run its course before I start doing this. I have come a long way both in effort and improvement in my health that I don't want to undo all the good work so far.
- can anyone honestly say that after being on this protocol for say a few months they have then remained symptom free after discontinuing it? I am not seeing anyone making this claim though that does not rule out the possibility. I realise that if people are successful they will then drift away from this site.
So, if you have tried this protocol over a long period and found it a success then please shout and let us know.

Agreed. The Salt and Vit. C does little or next to nothing for this condition. I give it the ol' college try back in 2005. Nada, zip, zero... The Vit. C is probably a help in the general overview... I doubt that the salt is of any use what so ever...In fact...it may even be a negative player in the equation.

Hi Cliff - nice to meet you, we're glad you've joined us.

I started the Salt/C protocol recently and I seem to feel worse, I just thought I was herxing. Why do you think that it isn't a help?

Hi Kammy

Well, based on my personal experience, there were absolutely no positive results whatsoever. I did the entire protocol for 2 months. The only thing I got from it all was raised blood pressure from all the salt. The Vit. C however is a good thing. I'm all in favor of Vit. C. After about 5 weeks the salt started to make me ill and there was no reduction at all in the Morgellons symptoms, etc.

I agree with Cliff. I tried it for a while and I did not see any improvement. I even paid for the protocol and downloaded the specific instructions to make certain I was doing it correctly. I guess everyone responds differently. That's what makes this site so valuable. There are a lot of ideas to try to see which one is best for you.
