Default Member Mold Treatment Suggestions-1

Many fine suggestions were made earlier (some from 2007) by members for addressing mold issues, but unfortunately these suggestion have been buried by the current volume of forum posts. Thought it would be good to add some of these to treatment suggestions area. BTW the chlorhexidine link Paul H. posted here for amazon still works. This is interesting because a microbiologist he quotes has suggested this external mold treatment protocol which involves more than one product (as outlined in Paul's post below there are three). Evidently if caught early enough the Dutch microbiologist felt a cure was possible. If anyone catches it early enough it would be good to learn if this is true.

This solution can be purchased in gallon form at amazon.com for $12. Has anyone tried it? Has anyone had some success? This stuff may also be helpful in cleaning the sticky substances off your countertops.

Also, when starting an antibiotic/antifungal regimen, Van Eeden also recommends taking aspirin to increase penetration of the antibiotics. He also says that it will help regulate reactions.

Listed below is an article about the use of antimicrobials on the skin.

Efficacy of antiseptics and disinfectants on clinical and environmental yeast isolates in planktonic and biofilm conditions.

Laboratoire de Parasitologie-Mycologie, UFR des Sciences Medicales, 2 avenue du Professeur Leon Bernard--CS 34317, 35043 Rennes, France.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of five antiseptics, three surface disinfectants and UV radiation against a wide range of clinical and environmental yeast isolates. Their efficacy against pure cultures, yeast mixtures and biofilms (prepared by culturing yeasts in Sabouraud broth containing a final concentration of 8% glucose) was tested. Three clinical isolates of Candida albicans, Cryptococcus neoformans and Rhodotorula rubra, and two environmental isolates of Candida albicans and Cryptococcus uniguttulatus were selected. For seven out of eight biocides tested (Betadine, Dermacide, Chlorhexidine, Dosisepsine, hydrogen peroxide, sodium hypochlorite, 70% alcohol, 0.5% Ecodiol) and for UV radiation, susceptibility did not differ according to genus, species or origin. Hydrogen peroxide, 0.25% Ecodiol and UV radiation were ineffective against the five isolates tested. On pure planktonic cultures, and, to a lesser extent, on free-living yeast mixtures, the other products were active and were then tested against biofilms: eight out of nine biocides were ineffective. Chlorhexidine at 0.5% was the only fungicidal agent on pure cultures, yeast mixtures and biofilms. The importance of the test method, including agent concentration, is discussed.

Alternate this solution with Chlorexidine 2% suspension, selsun blue. This you apply all over the skin. But you should be careful not to over treat. Your skin will tell you if you do.

So you treat the skin using three different suspensions.

These external measures will reduce bacterial and fungal load on the skin.

Van Eeden recommends doing these treatment steps combined with medication suggested would be terbinafine 250 mg + itraconazole 100
up to 200 mg per day. These are both antifungals.
You will be able to knock down the infection significantly and in young cases probably will able to cure."

Van Eeden believes that medical consensus will come soon as CDC has come up with conclusion and a therapeutic approach will come soon.

But I don't believe that the CDC will come up with anything and I will not wait for them to finally come on board and help us. After all, the head psychologist of the CDC, Gordon Hughes, Isaid they were calling off the Morgellons study back in February '07 because they couldn't find anything.

I looked at the thread you posted from 10 meters - interesting about the results in the article (at the bottom of the page) testing biocides on yeasts, fungi and biofilms. It concludes that biocides tested (inc HP) were effective against certain yeasts and fungi…but only Chlorhexidine (0.5%) was effective against killing biofilm.

I think the microbiologists suggestion of using it every other day is a good one. Hibiscrub label says that if the product is mixed with detergents it will be less effective.

So Chlorhexidine could be effective on biofilm …. also on killing certain nematodes in stages of their lifecyles:

My post about the nemetode Strongyloides stercorali included a ref to an article comparing Strongyloides stercorali with c.elegans. Section 3.3 talks about lab precautions and decontiminating utensils:

'Non-disposable glassware, Baermann funnel components (see Protocol 2 below) and other implements contaminated with free-living larvae and adults of S. stercoralis may be decontaminated with a 20% solution of a commercial surgical scrub such as ChlorhexiDerm (2% Chlorhexidine, DVM Pharmaceuticals, Miami, Florida). Surgical scrub should be added to Baermann funnel effluent waste at a similar concentration to kill free-living larvae and adults prior to disposal. Because of their highly resistant cuticles, iL3 are impervious to Chlorhexidine and other conventional surgical scrubs even after several hours of exposure. Implements and solutions containing iL3 can be chemically decontaminated with Lugol's Iodine (10 mg/ml KI + 10 mg/ml I2 in distilled water)'.

So Chlorhexidine at 2% also kills these nemetodes when they are: first-stage larvae, free living larvae, and adults. But will not kill free living adults because their skins are too tough!

When I started to use Chlorhexidine on my skin, the Chlorhexidine may have made organisms retreat….heading for the safety of my organs, as I had internal inflammation and pain (although it co-incided with coming off antibiotics so not sure - not good timing, looking back on it!)

Hibiscrub is 4% Chlorhexidine - which I've been using as a shower/hair gel for 2 weeks - still getting great results (alot less white particles coming off my skin and hair follicles - especially if I add abit of teatree in my body moisturiser in between showering). But think that people need to consider before trying it…..

I asked 10meters if he used Chlorhexidine still - he doesnt.
