Hi everyone, I've found an inexpensive and effective treatment for our outer skin. After a recent encounter with a hospital and being slathered down with betadine I noticed something. There was a mass exodus of the fishing line type entitites wherever they put this stuff on my skin. Then after reading about hookworm I ran across a link which stated that lugol's solultion will kill infective hookworm larvae. Lugol's is a clear form of iodine. Well, I didn't have any lugol's or any cash to buy some so I used some drug store Povidone Iodine which I had on hand in my bath water. This stuff is bright orange and will stain if not careful but the biofilm of whatever lives in or on our skin disappeared from my feet and legs. Then a little later on I put on some rubber gloves, trying to be mindful of my clothes as not to stain and put this all over my scalp. I used a towel on pillow case to not stain. After it dries it's not that bad. Well, this stuff is amazing at killing whatever is living in or on our skin. Only costs a few bucks. I'm going to try and find some clear iodine today. Here is the link regarding the Lugol's and it killing the infective larva in the lab. http://www.cdc.gov/od/ohs/biosfty/bm...iticAgents.pdf It is on page 192 of "Laboratory Safety" Morgan

Great Morgan. Sounds good to me - hope you dont end up banana coloured! I'll find some and report back. I find hibiscrub (Hibiclen) works good to remove the biofilm and kill microbes and larvae too. Just a thought, if you wanted to rotate treatments Jo xxx

Does the iodine sting like alcohol does? I've been wanting to try in for a while, but didn't want to go through the pain if there is any. I use the hibiclen also everyday and it works great for the biofilm. Makes it easier to spot the little buggers. One of my doctors also said they have their teenage son using it once a day for acne. Cleared it up in three days.

LOL, yes Jo I'm afraid I have a bit of an orange hue of late. Well worth it however to get the buggers out. Megluth as to your question, no it does not burn in the least. I do not have open lesions however. Rather messy but the entities come right to the surface of the hair shaft when this is applied and they have the dye on them so they are quite obvious in eyebrows, leg hairs, etc. gross huh? This stuff will stain so I prefer it as a bath additive. I used it on scalp overnight and a LOT of friends came out. I used a towel on my pillow case. There is also the ointment type of povodine which is a bit greasier and I've not figured out a way to apply to my feet without ruining my sheets. Would hate to wear socks in 90 degree weather. I don't care if my cheap dollar store flip flops get stained up. I NEED SOME CLEAR IODINE ..I think. Works great. Morgan

Hi Morgan, I like what I'm hearin. I'm looking to get some right now. Just wondered about a little experiment that Dr Staninger mentioned ![]() Have you noticed anything turning black due to the iodine? Staninger said that she'd used a couple of anti fungal soaps to purge white stuff from people abdomin and put iodine on the samples and they turned black - indicating the presence of starch. Just a thought ![]() jo xxx

Jo, why would it indicate starch? Could it also indicate acid? Out of the mouth of babes: My boyfriend (yes a 60 year old can have a boyfriend....maybe even several if desired LOL) said, "hey, why don't you try bleach?" A answered, "eww NO I would never put that chemical on my skin. What you put in your skin, you put in your body." A few bites and stings later, I sprayed my arm with my 50/50 bleach/water and guess what? Chemicize me, baby.... bleach away. But an added note: I've been doing the straight peroxide on my arm over and again within a ten minute period and the white spots, which I think are necrotic tissue rendered so from the peroxide, are a major give-a-way for the critters position in my arm. I even see tracks. I think the key is to keep doing it until all is done in that spot. But I'm still working on it all. We'll see. Kritts

I was at CVS Pharmacy today searching for clear iodine (which is really hard to find), but found some povidone iodine ointment instead. It says on the box, "no sting, no stain" so I bought some and giving it a shot. The stuff is orange, but after half an hour there is still no stain. I figured there would be something, so I'm pretty impressed. I doesn't burn, which is a major plus since everything burns right now. The only thing I noticed is that it began to run once it warmed up from my body heat. I mixed it with some vit. e ointment to keep it from running. I'll let you know if anything exciting happens. I also picked up some Gold Bond power for the times I want to dry out my ulcer/lesion. Has anyone tried this stuff? I've used it in the past, but never on a sore. I'm worried it'll burn like crazy, but my sore will soak a bandaid in an hours time. I'm constantly changing them. I need something to keep it dry. I'll try it tomorrow on my day off. Hopefully I won't go through the roof. ![]() Last edited by megluth72; August 10th, 2008 at 01:08 AM.

Ok, I take that back about the ointment being running after it warms up. I washed my face and reapplied it and only a corner of the lesion started running. I think it's a defense mechanism in the works here because the rest of my sore soaked the ointment right up. - And still no burn, no stains. (Yeah!)

I just googled 'itchy skin' to see what came up. There are SSOOO many people with skin problems and I keep finding pockets of them that have Morgellon symptoms. Trouble is I register and drop the bshell and then cant remember my log in details.Anywho - here's a pocket that I've just signed up to, where this person is talking about the good effects of taking iodine internally to stop the itching and to help thyroid and hormone health: "ON ADVICE FROM A BIOCHEMIST AT A PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOUNDING LAB I STARTED TAKING 4 DROPS DAILY OF LUGOLS IODINE (TOTALLING 1MG DAILY OF IODINE)-GUESS WHAT? THE ITCH HAS DRAMATICALLY SUBSIDED AND IS ABOUT 90% BETTER-NOW ONLY A VERY QUICK,TINY ITCH AFTER THE MORNING SHOWER AND A LITTLE ON MY ARMS FOR ABOUT 10MINS IN THE EVENING.I THINK THAT ONCE MY THYROID HAS SOAKED UP THE IODINE A BIT LONGER THIS PROBLEM WILL DISAPEAR FOR GOOD.MY ADVICE IS TO GIVE IT A TRY AS THYROID PROBLEMS ARE VERY MUCH MISDIAGNOSED AND THE BLOOD TESTS ARE NOT RELIABLE.I HAVE ALSO STARTED TAKING VIRGIN COCONUT OIL IN MY DIET AND PUTTING IT ON MY SKIN AS IT IS VERY GOOD FOR THE THYROID AND HELPS TO ESTABLISH PROPER T3/T4 HORMONE FUNCTION-START WITH 1 TABLESPOON DAILY AND BUILD UP TO 3.IT IS SO GOOD FOR YOU IN MANY OTHER WAYS TOO-LOOK ON THE WEB FOR MORE INFO. HOPE THIS HELPS-GOOD LUCK TO ALL YOU ITCHY FOLK OUT THERE!" DIPEx Community - I'm itching too! Jo xxx

| My Lugols Iodine has arrived and says 'This is used as a traditional diet supplement in Racing Pigeons' So, thought I should read up on it. "Lugol's iodine may also be used as an oxidizing germicide, however it is somewhat undesirable in that it may lead to scarring and discolors the skin temporarily. One way to avoid this problem is by using a solution of 70% ethanol to wash off the iodine later." Historically, taking it internally was used to treat gout, and first line treatment for severe hypothyroidism. Now, they use pure potassium iodide, without the more toxic elemental iodine to treat the thyroid. Iodine doesnt stain cancer cells and is used in a number of experiments.
