In another thread, someone posted about using myrrh to stop others from itching. Another thread discussed it as an essential oil. I looked up myrrh and it seems to have promise as a supplement, having been used for centuries for various skin, mouth and other ailments. I'm considering getting some. However, it comes in various forms like gum, resin, oil, tincture. Anyone use myrrh and has it brought any relief? Thanks in advance for sharing any experiences you might have had or tips you might have.

Here is an excerpt on formulas using myrrh: Formulas or Dosages Infusion: steep 1 tsp. myrrh in 1 pint boiling water for a few minutes and strain. For bad breath, add 1 tsp. goldenseal. Take 1 tsp., 5-6 times a day. Gargle: steep 1 tsp. myrrh and 1 tsp. boric acid in 1 pint boiling water. Let stand 30 minutes and strain. Extract: mix 2 to 5 drops in water for an excellent mouthwash. Use the powdered resin as a tooth powder to brush the teeth. Tincture: take 2-5 drops at a time, as needed. Hope this helps, (LC). |

Thanks so much LC. What I am also kind of interested in is how someone would use it to stop the people around one from itching, if that works, and any experiences with it helping with symptoms. Of course anything I do is on my own responsibility and any information shared doesn't mean I or anyone else should try it. I'm mostly just curious ![]()

I do use the Myrrh capsules sometimes. While it is not a miracle worker, it does seem to help the skin feel more "solid" and less boggy. I think it has some anti-cholesterol properties and maybe it minds with the excess mucous and fatty xathanomas in the skin.

Applying along the skin, it is excellent to treat wounds and sores, particularly weeping eczemas, skin ulcers and bed sores, and because it encourages cell regeneration, it's utilized effectively on mature skin, as well as sorting out deep cracks on the feet and hands. It has anti-catarrhal, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiseptic, astringent, balsamic, carminative, cicatrisant, emmenagogue, expectorant, fungicidal, sedative, digestive, stomachic, tonic, uterine and vulnerary attributes.

Cool, looks like one can take the drops internally (not the best tasting stuff, I got the extract at Vitamin Shoppe) and also put some on the skin. Thanks everybody.
