| I wanted to ask anyone here if they have tried ozone for treatment? Which ozone machine do you have? I am considering purchasing a 60 dollar unit. Thanks, 10m Morgellons Disease Historical Background Symptoms. Countries Affected. Current Treatment. Trial Treatment. References. 1. Historical Background At the turn of the last century, infectious diseases represented an important cause of health morbidity and behavioral changes (Almeida & Lautenschlager, 2005). Neurosyphilis, for example, was relatively common at the time and often led to the development of cognitive impairment and dementia. With the advent of effective antibiotic treatment, the association between infectious diseases and dementia became increasingly less frequent, although a resurgence of interest in this area has taken place during the past 15 years with the emergence of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD). This paper reviews the most frequent infectious causes of dementia, including prion diseases, as well as infections caused by herpes virus, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), toxoplasmosis, cryptococcus, cytomegalovirus, syphilis, borrelia and cysticercosis. Sir Thomas Browne in 1629, described in "A Letter to a Friend" refers to a condition, which is of interest to the pediatrician, but the nature of which has apparently hitherto remained obscure. It is suggested that the disease called by Browne ‘the Morgellons’ is one that that caused considerable interest in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, known under a variety of names such as Les Crinons, Masclous, Masquelons, from which it is suggested the name of Morgellons is derived (Keynes, 1931; Kellett, 1935). J.G. Wolf writing in 1789, described in his thesis the comedones for his M.D. at Leipsig which, though guarded in the extreme, received such a review in the 1791 Journal de Medecine that the Morgellons should have been accepted by mainstream medicine as a disease entity. ".... With the help of the microscope these cinder-coloured animals may be made out, having two horns, round eyes, a tail which is long, forked, with the extremities, which are bent up, covered with hair. These worms are terrible to look at". Bruguiéres (Bruguiéres, 1792) had occasion to study a case personally, and believed that the little hairs which were elicited on rubbing the child were capable of independent movement. He mentioned that the condition was known in Provence as Masclous. Laënnec, however, writing in 1813, considered that the parasitic nature of the disease was not yet proven. 2. Symptoms. Most individuals with Morgellons disease report disturbing crawling, stinging, and biting sensations, as well as non-healing skin lesions, which are associated with highly unusual structures. These structures can be described as fiber-like or filamentous, and are the most striking feature of this disease. In addition, patients report the presence of seed-like granules and black speck-like material associated with their skin. Cases of this disease have been reported to this foundation by people living in all fifty states in the U.S., as well as fifteen nations. The majority of individuals reporting symptoms of Morgellons Disease reside in California, Texas, and Florida. Distinct geographic "cluster" areas of this disease have been noted near Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose and San Diego, California as well as near Houston, Dallas, Austin, and Round Rock, Texas. Physicians treating patients with this disease, believe that it involves either a novel organism, or a known organism acting in a novel way. This organism has been difficult to identify, but many physicians report that it appears to infect some individuals whose immune systems have been altered by Lyme Disease, also known as Borreliosis. The percentage of people with Morgellons Disease, who also suffer from Borreliosis, remains to be seen. One physician who has treated a patient with symptoms of Morgellons Disease, believes that the etiologic agent of this disease is Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, a resistant bacteria which can contaminate water. Another physician believes that Morgellons Disease has a viral etiology. It seems clear that, until public health agencies properly investigate this situation, the cause of this emerging illness will remain the subject of speculation. Although skin symptoms are of particular interest to this foundation and are extremely troubling to patients, they are also a vital clue that something is terribly wrong with the body. More significant than skin symptoms, in terms of the diminished quality of life of the individual with this illness, are symptoms unrelated to skin, to include Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Fibromyalgia (ME), joint pain, and significant problems with concentration and memory. The most significant element of this infection, appears to be the effect on brain function. Mood disorders, such as depression and Bipolar Disorder, are extremely common in this group, affecting well over half of all individuals reporting symptoms of Morgellons Disease. Nearly all people with this illness report extreme difficulty with mental concentration and short term memory. The majority of children with this illness have ADHD, ODD, mood disorders, or autism. Among a group of 47 children with this disease, thirty of them (64%) have psychiatric illness, and five of them (10%) are autistic. Several groups of extended families have contacted the Morgellons Foundation to report that all family members became ill with symptoms of this disease, after spending time together. One extended family of ten, from four different households, has been ill with symptoms of this disease since spending only one evening together, several months ago. All six members of another family are infected, with three psychiatrically impaired children. 3. Countries Affected. These families do not represent isolated situations, as more and more families now report multiple infected members in a household, as well as psychiatrically impaired children. It is unclear how this disease is being transmitted, and some workers have postulated if these situations are due to human-to-human transmission or some type of mutual exposure. Over 2,700 families are currently registered with the Morgellons foundation; the true number of affected families and individuals may be much higher. It is not restricted to the USA – reports of infections have come from South Africa, the UK, Europe and other nations. 4. Current Treatment. There is no recognised treatment that has brough relief to this group of patients. Anti-bacterial, andti-fungal and anti-viral pharmaceuticals have had limited effects or results. Morgellons has been associated with a variety of causal agents, but to date there is not a treatment protocol that has worked effectively. The majority of patients have reported that mainstream medicine has labelled them as 'dillusional' and has abandoned them. 5. Trial Treatment. Ozone has a wide anti- viral, bacterial, fungal and parasitical action. In conjunction with leading ozone authorities in Cuba, Italy, UK and South Africa, it has been suggested that treatment protocol based on the use of ozonated plant extracts and ozone gas may be able to offer a way forward. While the medical and general public may not be any closer to understanding this disease process or 'infective/causative' organism, at least there is a possible treatment protocol to offer other sufferers and the medical community. The trial uses ozonated oils, ozonated salt baths, and 'bagging' - essentially this is where a limb or part of a limb is placed into a bag, and ozone pumped into the bag for 20 - 40 minutes. A standardised ozone unit is recommended. The ozonated oils are supplied by Dr Julian Holmes direct with to ensure uniform conformity with the product. If you are a Morgellons Disease sufferer, and you would like either more information or take part in this trial contact Dr Julian Holmes 6. References. Almeida OP, Lautenschlager NT. | Hey 10m: Never tried professional ozone or anything like that. However, I did try two related measures that seemed to help: * Bought a small $20 ionic pro machine. While the ability to fully sanitize the environment is questionable, I do think it helps in a moldy bathroom or basement to neutralize some of the mycotoxins. * Also, bought this unusual machine directly over Ebay about a year ago from China. It is designed to generate some ozone, (instead of just getting it as byproduct). It has a hose and a motor so you can pump it water or liquid. Now I don't think drinking the water works quite like some say, "making non-toxic bleach". But it was helping to detoxify the environment, to allow it to run in the air. I took a quick peruse on Ebay now. Haven't found the model I bought. It was like $40 and 15 for UPS shipping directly from China. Tell you the truth, I have a concern about the ion machine though: In theory, when ionizing these "unfriendly" particles, be they xeonbacteria, viroids, polyethylene sealants, ,whatever. In theory, creating a negative charge makes them more "sticky". You with static electricity, creating a negative charge, could possibly make the creeping crud more adherent to furniture, your clothing, etc. That said, I still think it's helpful in moldy rooms. However, I personally would be hesitant to run it in a room where I sleep. In any case, let us know how you make out. |

| 10meters to be honest my sick buddy did try ozone therapy as part of his alternative medicine therapy. He did give a shot for while, but I did very little to no effect for him. I am not saying don't try it, just reporting what it did for him. |

| Oddly enough we've used ozone in swimming pools too, but its a complete failure Theoretically its supposed to work but for some reason its useless

| Sounds like the pool system depended on the presence of 03-H20 complexes, which seem pretty delicate. If anyone is really interested, they can read an excerpt here. Curious: were you disinfecting the water with it? BB |

| I have no idea. Went through a stage in the early nineties installing them eveywhere as a chlorine substitute. They were bloody useless. I dont know how they were supposed to work. It was in the olden days and I probably didnt even read the instructions at the time. But they didnt work for anyone. There's always some new sanitiser. Ozone, silver/copper, ultra violet and others i cant remember. I wouldnt be surprised if copper was at least as important as silver because its used as a base to most algaecides. But that was the excetion that actually worked. You still need chlorine but not much.

| I have been taking some ozonated oils for the last several weeks and they seems to work. I guess you must have the right oils to make it effective. Like teasel seabuckthorn, mistletoe, black cumin, etc. Anyway hope more people some of these oils. Paul |

| Hi Paul, "teasel seabuckthorn" ??????? Sounds like a very rich socialite who plays polo on a regular basis. ![]() "mistletoe"......now THAT'S more like it around Christmastime (except I thought mistletoe was poisonous) guess it's only the leaves that are edible?Hope you don't mind my levity at your expense I need it today.Kritts |
