Hello all. Someone very dear to me is suffering from this disease. Recently, after brushing her teeth and using mouthwash (Listerine), she accidentially spilled some on her hand on an area affected with the disease. This part of her hand was displaying the usual symptoms of the disease and she was suffering from irritation and pain associated with those symptoms. However, when the Listerine accidentially spilled on her hand, she felt immediate relief. Curious, she then used the Listerine as a topical solution on affected areas all over her body and also experienced relief in those areas. Furthermore, she noticed that the Listerine seemed to clear her skin, washing off affected epithelial skin and the fibers on those areas commonly associated with the disease. She asked me to post this so that perhaps others affected with the disease may benefit from this accidential discovery. Please bear in mind, however, that she just discovered it and so the full effects (degree and extent of long term relief) is not known at this time. We will keep you posted as we learn more about this treatment. For your reference, I have listed the active ingredients of Listerine below and some information about them. I have also included links where you can see full information about each ingredient. Active Ingredients of Listerine: Eucalyptol is classified as an ether. It has been demonstrated to be capable of reducing inflammation and pain. It has also been found to be able to kill leukaemic cells! More info on Eucalyptol found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eucalyptol Thymol is a monoterpene phenol. It's primary use is as a preservative and has strong antiseptic properties. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thymol Methyl salicylate has many uses, but in small amounts it is a flavoring agent. It is naturally produced by plants commonly referred to as "wintergreens." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methyl_salicylate Menthol is a covalent organic compound made synthetically or obtained from peppermint or other mint oils. Under particular uses, it can reduce itching and/or irritation, although some supporters of the homeopathic theory of pharmacology believe that menthol interferes with the effects of homeopathic remedies and discourages its use. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menthol Last, but certainly not least: Ethanol, otherwise referred to as grain alcohol. Primary use is, of course, liqueur. Used in mouthwash because it is toxic to bacteria, but won't harm humans like isopropyl alcohol. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethanol

Thank you for the info, Hammer_Time. I am going to try it. Most all of the remedies that have shown signs of working for us have been right on the drug store shelf. Please keep us informed as to your friend's progress. The treatment steps posted by Bubba here also work very well - I am making progress with the salt/peroxide soaks and I will certainly add the Listerine to my routine. Thanks again and welcome to the board!!!!!

That's Great news, Hammer! I just got back from Walgreens to buy the Lactic Acid cream - if I'd only known, I could've picked up some Listerine!!! ![]() Interesting that Thymol is listed. It's the main component of Thyme, which is recommended by herbalists to kill parasites. I've been eating 1/4 tsp. of Thyme every day since I found that out. Also, I have had trouble with my mouth & tongue hurting since all this started. I'll be interested to see what happens when I start gargling with Listerine!!! I'll keep you posted on results. Thanks! PS Note to Franky. I got this after a 9-day trip to the San Francisco area - one of the nation's hot spots. Don't know how or when I picked it up while there, but started feeling bad the week after I got back.

Franky, we did take a long walk in the wine country - lots of bugs around, but don't remember if I was bit. If I was, it was not noticeable, but VERY possible! Me

Oh, also - LadyC - I got some Listerine this week - man that stuff burns like fire on the tongue!!! But I've tried it a couple of times & can't tell results yet. These little things on my tongue really creep me out!!!! I don't have them all the time, but right before they show up, my tongue hurts BAD! If I swish Eco-Vie in my mouth about every 5 minutes until the pain goes away, I never see the little worms (or whatever they are) surface. I think I like it better (even though it's like swishing an old shoe!) than the Listerine, but I'm still experimenting. Me
