Default Dermatitis Herpetiformis

Hi was looking on web at Tesco's Wheat free foods, I think they're new & saw dermititis Herpetiformis, so googled it, the photo's look very familier to me, the Doctor that i saw after having camera stuck up rear & down throat saw my skin & suggested I have a cealiac blood test, they said i did'nt have it, but I have since paid for a food intolerance test, very expensive £ 245 I also paid £9.99 for an initial blood test to see if I had food intolerances, they phoned me to say I had & would I like to have 113 food tests done, as I'm desperate I agreed, this test centre is used by the television programme "Embarrasing Bodies" so i don't feel as if I'm being ripped off, can't wait for results, takes 10 days.

hope this link is of interest, am going to look at other sites...Spots

A couple old posts about the possible link for some of us to celiac:

Celiac and Autoimmune Diseases, something to consider Part 1 (this post discusses the dermatitis herpetiformis form of celiac, about half way down in the post)

Hi TCM... I searched the forum before i linked but could'nt find anything.

Funny I was thinking of you as in a lot of sites its mentions thyroid issues that go with this DH. Had just been reading about your thyroid issues in another thread.

Yeah, spots I really think anyone with thyroid issues should at least consider gluten sensitivity even if it's not celiac disease outright. It was a thyroid site which put me on to the connection between thyroid disease and possible subclinical gluten sensitivity. I have never been formally tested for celiac, but that "home" test for bone pain worked to show me that it is an issue for me. I never would have believed that severe hip pain could be caused by celiac disease, but there is a connection that's been made between osteoporosis and celiac by some researchers. In fact some celiac sites say every woman who has osteoporosis should be tested for celiac, but you know doctors. All to ready to prescribe a dose of fosamax or other hard on the body medication for osteoporosis instead of trying to get to the root cause of the bone loss which could be celiac disease.

Avoiding gluten means a lot more than just avoiding wheat and wheat products though, so if you decide to cut it out learning all you can about the diet really helps (sounds as if you are already looking into that with the mention of the York center offering help there in UK). Also if you want to do testing for celiac disease be sure not to quit eating gluten until after the testing. The only way I could get tested now would be to eat wheat and other gluten grains which I am unwilling to do. Unlike the UK there is no help in purchasing gluten free products in the US, so I just skipped finding a doctor to test me for gluten sensitivity.

Hi TCM You don't get free gluton free foods unless you have cealiac disease my blood test showed negative so i have to purchase my gluton free items, they are much more expensive than ordinary bread etc.

I had a thyroid test done but that proved negative, my friend a nurse who was sure she had underactive thyroid was told she had'nt but went privately & they gave her sort of tests & she has hashimodos or something like tha, you proberbly know what I mean, she thinks I have an enlarged Thyroid gland, I'm forever choking, & it hurts on the left hand side of my throat, also feel like I've got two golf balls under my chin sometimes, I'll have to save up again & perhaps go private, people think the NHS is wonderful, but money talks as always in our greedy world. The new Government are making cuts on the excisting NHS so god knows what it'll be like, wer'e too overcrowded in this small country now for the system to work like it did years ago.

Thats my moan over...Spots
