Default Scientists investigate link between nanoparticles and Alzheimers

Link Between Nanotechnology and Alzheimer's Disease

Scientists at the University of Ulster are investigating a link between some man-made nanoparticles, such as those found in sunscreens and Alzheimer's disease.

Professor Vyvyan Howard, a pathologist and toxicologist and Dr Christian Holscher, an expert in Alzheimer's disease are leading this groundbreaking research into whether human engineered nanoparticles can induce neurodegenerative disease.
A nanoparticle measures between 1 and 100 nanometres. A nanometre is one millionth of a millimetre.
Professor Howard and Dr Holscher, who are both based at the Biomedical Sciences Institute in Coleraine, have been awarded £350,000 from the European Union to carry out investigations over the next three years.
Their research is part of a worldwide project call NeuroNano which includes European academic partners at the universities of Dublin, Cork, Edinburgh and Munich. In America, the universities of California, Rochester and Rice and in Japan the National Institute of Materials Science.
"The overall science and technology objective of this programme is to determine if engineered nanoparticles could constitute a significant neuro-toxicological risk to humans for two diseases - Alzheimer's and Parkinson's," said Professor Howard.
The University of Ulster experts will be specifically looking at nanoparticles present in chemicals found in sunscreens and an additive in some diesel fuels - titanium dioxide and cerium oxide - and their connection to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
“There is now firm evidence that some engineered nanoparticles entering intravenously or via lungs can reach the brains of small animals. Indeed they lodge in almost all parts of the brain and there are no efficient clearance mechanisms to remove them once there,” said Professor Howard.
“There are also suggestions that nanoscale particles arising from urban pollution have reached the brains of animals and children living in Mexico City.
“It has recently been discovered that nanoparticles can have highly significant impacts on the rate of misfolding of key proteins associated with neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
"The brain itself is a very special organ. It cannot repair by replacing nerve cells, the ones you get at birth have to last all your life, which makes them peculiarly vulnerable to long term low dose toxicity.
"The brain has built up some protective mechanisms, such as the blood brain barrier. A major worry is that nanoparticles seem to be able to circumvent this. All this adds up to a new field of investigation.
“This research programme is deeply challenging and entails the gathering of entirely new knowledge in a field – neuronanotoxicology.
“It requires the marshalling of unique expertise, methodologies, techniques and materials, many themselves completely new and never before brought together in the required combination.
"The latest figures show that neurodegenerative diseases currently affect over 1.6% of the European population, with dramatically rising incidence likely in part to the increase of the average age of the population. This is a major concern for all industrialized societies.
“There is also some epidemiological evidence that Parkinson’s disease is connected to environmental pollutants and it is often noted that historically, reports of Parkinson’s symptoms only began to appear after widespread industrialization.
“There is some general agreement that pesticides are significant risk factors. There are persistent claims, based on the epidemiology, that pollution may be a co-factor in Alzheimer’s disease, but here the evidence is controversial.
“The risk that engineered nanoparticles could introduce unforeseen hazards to human health is now also a matter of growing concern in many regulatory bodies, governments and industry.”
The NeuroNano Programme builds on some striking published findings as well as preliminary data from most significant circumstantial evidence that nanoscale particles could impact on such diseases.
The University of Ulster is clearly recognised as a leader in the field of nanotoxicology after winning this funding from the EU - less than 1% of applicants were successful. This grant builds on expertise in the previous EU Framework Programme - NanoInteract.

Hi SS,

I didn't read all of your post, but want to say that I no longer use deodorant that contains aluminum. I use a salt stone Crystal Body Deodorant? ?The Original Natural Mineral Salt Deodorant Stone? (Safe For You & The Environment) that is sold in organic grocery stores (whole foods, wild oats...) It lasts much longer and is cheaper in the long run. It really works.

In the white light,

Default While your doing that

While you remove all of that stuff, get rid of the cow brain lipstick, aluminum and stainless cookware, use glass and cast iron, never NO STICK GARBAGE PANS, plastic containers, boxed canned and alot of packaged foods. No kidding I was having a little discussion on how horrible the Chinese food was seeing they eat everything. I said to my mother we eat the same parts of a cow, one way or another, I put in cow brain!!!!! MCDONALDS HAMBURGERS and LIPSTICK were one of a few listed.

No wonder I am so smart!!! Thanks Mc Donalds, I guess you could say a brain a day keeps the, the , the , now what was I gonna say! LOL

You drive me crazy, BO! I agree tho, you wrote "No kidding I was having a little discussion on how horrible the Chinese food was seeing they eat everything."

It's up to each of us to what we expose our bodies to.

Yep! Keep on eating it!...yummy..and don't forget the contaminated Liberty Link Rice!..lol

Food safety in the People's Republic of China - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stories began circulating in the press about cheap soy sauces made from human hair. These sauces were manufactured in China using a chemical amino acid extraction process similar to artificially hydrolyzed soy sauces and then quietly exported to other countries. An investigative report that aired on Chinese television exposed the unsanitary and potentially contaminated sources of the hair:

When asking how the amino acid syrup (or powder) was generated, the manufacturer replied that the powder was generated from human hair. Because the human hair was gathered from salon, barbershop and hospitals around the country, it was unhygienic and mixed with condom, used hospital cottons, used menstrual cycle pad, used syringe, etc

In response, the Chinese government banned production of soy sauces made from hair. Other carcinogens remain, see 3-MCPD.

Read also: 3-MCPD - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

....3-MCPD or (3-monochloropropane-1,2-diol or 3-chloro-1,2-propanediol) is carcinogenic and highly suspected to be genotoxic in humans, has male anti-fertility effects, and is a chemical byproduct which may be formed in foods, the most commonly found member of chemical contaminants known as chloropropanols....

Even if we don't think nanotechnology/nanoparticles are responsible for Morgellons, we DO know that they are responsible for other health issues.

Between this new study, the deaths a couple of weeks ago of the Chinese women working with nanoparticles, and loads of other health concerns, it should be clear that this stuff is not in our best health interests.

btw - I don't use any make-up, deodorant, hair products, etc. I only use organic soaps and lotions that contain NO chemicals. Same with cleaning products (laundry, etc).

I have very few symptoms - is there a connection? Can't be sure, but I'm not going to mess with the formula to find out!

There are now over 1,000 products on the market using nanotech/nanoparticles,. Computers, keyboards, cell phones, food and food packaging, cleaning products, even some vitamins, tooth paste, dental materials, paint, on and on. I also read recently that every prescription tablet or capsule will be marked with a nanotechnology insignia so that counterfeit prescription medications can be distinguished from the real thing. Many medical procedures are also being developed, including your favorite - vaccination delivery systems.

The organic food industry is fighting pressures to re-define organic foods to include bioengineered and nanotechnology as long as organic growing methods are being used.

Default Yes modern man is more than a fool, nan no, rays, frequencys, poisons.........

Modern man has no regaurd for what kind of negative results that can come from their NEW FOUND TOYS such as Nan NO particles, drugs, chemicals and such. The future does hold some wonders but also the suffering that goes along with it. I am sure all the other animals on the planet would like to see man GONE for good and man is steadily working towards that point!!!!
