link to radioactive iodine? I have Graves disease and was hyperthyroid for like over ten years. I had radioactive iodine treatment and was cured of thyroid problems. I'm very glad I had it done because being hyperthyroid is hell-ish. However, two weeks after RAI treatment I developed an extremely itchy rash which I assumed was thyroid related but my endocrinogist said no, those look like bug bites and my thyroid numbers were normal, plus energy-wise I felt great. Go to a dermatologist. One endo said scabies, another said fleas. I had three treatments of permethrin with no success.
Skin biospy showed spongiotic dermatitis or nummular dermatitis but no evidence of bugs. So I thought fine, if its eczema I'll just moisturize with aquaphor and olive oil. This made it 20 times worse. Thats when I started noticing black specks and tiny fibers as well as white or yellow grains appearing out of my skin. But I thought well maybe this is part of the exfoliation process of eczema but my doc said it was dirt and no way it was coming out of skin. But it felt like bugs so I threw out our bed, fumigated six times, changed sheets everyday, steam-cleaned and even had insulation taken out of attic because of irridescent grains. And air conditioner completely cleaned out. All this didn't work.
It made me so mad like where are these bugs coming from. I assumed they were mites even though there was no evidence and I have never seen any speck move. I started not moisturizing because it made me feel so icky and I thought well if its bugs it needs to be dried out. I used calidryl and it seemed to slow things down but I was still super itchy. Now there weren't big mosquito bumps but red and black dots that spread everwhere except my face. Mainly up and down my left and right side from arms to body down to legs. I used Nutrigena T-Gel before my derm said it was scabies and it seemed to help with itching so I started using again with borax bath almost everday for the last week.
First time with the bath, I swear it crawled up to my hair and face so now I shower really well and put borax paste for 20 seconds on my face and TGel my hair. And spot treat itchy spots with borax. It's working. I've been doing this for two weeks almost every other day plus calidryl. Also I apply everything with my hand and no scrubbing or scratching as that probably makes eczema worse.
I use to think I want to see black specks and grains because that meant purging. Now I really feel moisturizers, aquaphor, and olive oil just promoted the morgellens. Dry skin is itchy at first but today I have no itch. And I hope continuing this path works. I feel so much better and more positive than four months ago.
Ooops...didn't mean to be so verbose. My question is did anyone else have this after radioactive iodine treatment or are there any studies being done about a possible link? |
