| Our master bathroom shower pan broke and we are having it replaced. While tearing out the walls, we noticed some old mold behind the wall. My husband bought a few of those home mold kits at the hardware store. Because I have been having horrible lung problems and coughing up mucus balls, I decided to cough up the mucus into one of the petri dishes for the heck of it (I know, sounds stupid). I did it three times in the same dish. Two grew something and one didn't. Does anyone know if anything is supposed to grow from mucus? One of them has a dark green/black center and many green and black rings that spread out into a white (just like a target/bullseye). It kind of looks like the pictures of Aspergillus which is a fungus. Has anyone else done this with any of their samples? Last edited by MeaganM; May 25th, 2011 at 01:25 AM. |

| Um, no, I've never tried to grow anything in a petri dish, but you don't sound stupid! At least you are trying to figure this "M" out & if you want to test it I am glad you are sharing your results. Good luck, In the white light, ~jonsi

| yes! I had a leision cut out at the clinic, they sent it in to be studied. When I got home I took the blood soaked bangage and put it in a shallow bowl put some sugar in, a little water and covered it with clear plastic. I put it behind a planter, so my relatives wouldn't know. Two weeks later the blood was still red and with a beautiful white fuzzy ball sitting on the area where the leison was. It was two inches in diameter. I told the clinic, and they said it was nothing to be concerned about. After that I grew mold on mucus too, it was green also, and black. I had black leisons on my legs, and black mold from bed accidents, it was so frightening that I stashed it in plastic bags the whole bed covering. I never told anyone I was so scared. To tell you the truth I sopped sample growing because I didn't want to see anything more unexplainable, organisms.Bustercat |

| Thanks for sharing Bustercat! I hid it from my family as well until it showed growth, then I showed it to my husband. Of course, his logical question was is that normal with everyone and I haven't been able to find the answer. Did your samples have black, green and white rings like a bullseye? Did you ever get treatment or do you think it went away? Last edited by MeaganM; May 25th, 2011 at 01:23 AM. |

| I would imagine if you added water and sugar to any substance that was organic it might develop mold. Mold spores are in the air everywhere. Sometimes this happens when you try to make sourdough starter. Instead of attracting the desirable yeast mold spores it will sour and become a large glob of mold that has to be thrown away.

| Sammy, do you have the oily film on your face / eyelids? I was getting so much goo out of my eyes it was disgusting, and it wasn't the normal stuff you get from allergies or irritation. It was thick and hardened fast. I don't know why this might be working since I'm only using it on skin, but just throwing it out there. It's helped with the eye goo, film on my face and the white things that come out of follicles / pores. I wash my face, eyelids, lashes and brows (eyes tightly closed, of course) with Jason's tea tree body wash and a small amount of Dawn antibacterial and let it stay on a minute or two before rinsing off. Morning, evening and anytime I feel crawly around the eyes / lashes. Then I use organic cold pressed olive oil all over my face, massaging it into the lashes and brows. The eye goo, film, crawliness and white things have been reduced. Not totally gone, but noticeably reduced. Olive oil is supposed to be a fungus deterrant and it's very good for the skin, absorbs quickly, although not around the eyes. I tried coconut oil and it actually seemed to make the crawliness worse for me, but some people have had good results with it, too. Last edited by sojii; May 25th, 2011 at 09:27 PM. | I tried olive oil on my skin & in my hair. It didn't work very long... This "M" adapts to almost everything. itwl, ~jonsi
