Default Splotchy skin

I seem to be having an explosion of small white splotches/spots all over my arms. Some are tiny, like sprayed paint, some are bigger. A few are even about an 1/8 inch across.
They don't hurt, there's no difference in the way they feel, etc. Now that I am getting a tan, they are REALLY showing up.
Several years before I "got" M, the same thing was happening to my legs but the spots are bigger. I wondered about them at the time, but was always too busy to look into anything that didn't hurt.
Anyone else have these? They are NOT lesion scars. Those were reddish for about a year and then finally faded away a few months ago.

SS, that sounds like that fungal disease...Tinea Versicolor? Wonder why it's showing up on you now?

SS -

I'm realizing that I have a fungal skin infection on several places on my body. The skin is slightly reddened .. but you really wouldn't notice until you put an antifungal on it, and then a rash will form. My arms are especially affected, and if you look closely enough, you can see the splotchy skin .. areas on the skin have lost pigmentation.. I think the fungus does this.

Kritters -

It is odd that it is now appearing (although it appeared on my legs over 10 years ago).

Believe it or not, I recently went to a dermatologist for a "check up". Never mentioned ANY symptoms. His explanation is that my skin is losing its ability to produce pigment after all these years in the sun. He did take a pretty good look (cuz I didn't talk crazy - lol) and didn't seem to think there was anything unusual. I asked him if he has seen this very often, and he said he did. (FL has a lot of us "seniors" who've been in the sun a lot).

That said, I don't believe that this is a natural process. It is so pronounced and sudden that I am sure it is connected with the big M. Some kind of phase, I think. Same thing is happening to my in-denial roomie.

Gigi - I will try putting anti-fungals on my arms, but natural ones and see if there is any reaction.

Sadsack -

Yes, I only use the natural antifungals.

The barley really makes the skin react, and I use the ESP botanicals New Hope II balm, which makes it react too when I rub it in. Some antifungals make a reaction more pronounced than others. I wonder how it would react with coconut oil? When I use an antifungal shampoo, the reaction is not so pronounced.

Default white spots

Hi again SS, I have white spots on my arms, mostly the right one. They appeared shortly after the creepy crawlies started. They are different shapes and sizes. I lived in Fl. for seven years and was in the sun a lot. We fished, crabbed and shrimped a lot, so I was in the sun a lot. That said, I don't think mine had anything to do with being in the sun, I think it is morg related all the way! DD

You know I had that same problem about five years ago. After I got infected with the disease a year later when I went in the sun I would develope white patches on my skin. Now its been five years later and I no longer get those white circles. I also think that it was just a stage. I am still lost for answers and in the same position but of course worse. But it is nice to read these as far as I know that I am not the only one.

Gigi -

I have all the things you mentioned and will try them. I think I'd have to rub them in for awhile, because I have tried just applying these creams/ointments and gotten no reaction.

DD -

Thanks for the confirmation. It's so weird, having almost no symptoms for over a year and a half, and suddenly this happens. I mean, it doesn't bother me in the least, but it is odd!

lynn -

The white patches stopped - WEIRD! That proves it's not a pigmentation issue, at least not the way the derm explained it.
Are you saying that you are worse overall, but better in that one respect? Do you get lesions?

Hey SS....the patches might have stopped, but it couldn't it be that they are in dormancy? I'm reminded of my arm a few weeks ago that all of a sudden began with the biting and stinging in the same spot as last year. And just today, I'm noticing some weird things going on. My other arm is developing raised weird things and remember that huge THING that I couldn't squeeze? It's now not as swollen, but has a weird scab and now there are a few similar scabby things near them. All new stuff. AND my lower left leg now has at least 8 new raised red spots (not the tiny blood bubbles) that look like lesions which are undecided as to whether or not to come out and play. Weird, weird, weird. Can't wait to see what the next phase will bring.
