You said they bite you less while wearing cotton? Mine seemed to breed in cotton. I wore rubber gloves all the time face mask as i felt i was breathing them in... rubber gloves on my feet. I believe they drive us to a point to want to do anything to not get them on us... Yet to some degree we ourselves host them .. It seems no matter how much you wash your clothes or your house " everything" there is still little hairs on everything... If you leave a white paper plate out you will see them on it within minutes. If you hold a plastic straw you will see them on it in seconds at the end of the straw a little hair will appear... At one point I started wrapping my pillow with carenwrap as I did not want to put my head on it... ..ELBOS hurt... behind ears hurt... could feel things crawling on my eyelashes.. in my ears... in my nose... the bugs wanted to drive me crazy...
