Default Newbies in New Orleans.... ugh these bugs!

Hi guys and gals. My name is Tyson and I am living in post-Katrina hell called New Orleans. About two months ago my boyfriend and I developed a nice case of what we self diagnosed as either scabies or chiggers. Having no explanation and few symptoms of scabies, we settled for the chiggers. We treated ourselves with a variety of chigger treatments and the darn things disappeared! Woo Hoo! Two weeks later and you know it... they're back but with slightly different manifestations. I finally go to my doctor. Having described seeing them with my naked eye he says it sounds more like crabs. Absolutely not as I had become familiar with those cling-ons in my early 20s. Doc says scabies. Two permethrin and two lindane treatments later we resort to anything over the counter to control these (lice shampoo, dog shampoo, etc.). During this time, I found a few posts about Morgellon's. Too weird I think and chalk off my boyfriends sitings of threads and fibers to delusions (really I did... considered asking his parents to help committ him for a bit). I ignored my symptoms and insisted I had just not cleaned the house properly. Then one night I was working at my job in a night club. Under the UV blacklights I lit up brighter than Bourbon Street. I remembered a Morgellon's article and poured myself into this. Of course the bf and I still occassionally think that we ARE going delusional but we know this is truly what we have. I remember reading that it is common in moldy, damp areas with standing water --HELLO this is ALL of New Orleans. I personally know atleast ten people with symptoms and am waiting to see who is gonna glow in the UV! So now he just went to the doctor and I need to go next. We still battle these demons with everthing we think of.

We wanted to pass along something we found at WalMart called Sulphur8. It came in a large tub and was advertised as dandruff scalp treatment. We had not had threads or crawling sensations in a while but decided to try a bit in the store. Immediately white, grainy spots began pouring out of the area with green fibers and black filaments. Came home and spread the product over our entire bodies. Waited an hour then soaked in peroxide/salt bath with packettes of Doc Johnson's foot powder. WOW oh WOW. I have never seen more caluses break down and fall off or more white and dark specks and bugs pour out of my skin. I am going to repeat it in a few days.

I did want to ask anyone if they had this strange thing happen in their symptoms. Occassionally during a bad outbreak, we have seen what we can only describe as something close to fruit flies emerging from brownish black spots on our skin. And soon there is a small swarm of these flying critters in the room with us. Have we truly lost it or has anyone else had this happen?

Well, that's us in a nut shell. Still optimistic. Still together... but looking to get the hell out of New Orleans!
