In my case, the fibers in my skin were easily visible with the naked eye (no microscope needed). These incredibly large and long collagen fibers caused much of my problems with Morgellons like symptoms (I’m sure I had an overabundance of microscopic collagen fibers as well since they are in normal skin). The biting, stinging and crawling sensations for me were caused by these collagen fibers breaking in the skin and moving in and underneath the skin. Since these fibers were a part of my skin, when they broke they caused a stinging or biting sensation. The crawling sensation was caused by the fibers moving – I could see them move at times and realized this was what caused the sensations that felt somewhat like “bugs” crawling in my skin. Collagen fibers in skin have a "crimped" appearance at the ends (as shown in this photo).

Thanks for the pictures. Good point... Are the fibers collagen, cellouse, from your skin, foreign? I haven't gotten a definitive answer for myself. Curious, has anyone biopsied them and told you they were collagen? If so, that may be a clue. Myself, I have been told by Drs. the fibers were collagen, foreign, some kind of mite, everything and anything. Never got any consistency personally. Very interesting.

You may have missed my first post on this site - I have posted a document on the web that explains it in great detail (including how collagen fibers are a critical part of normal skin). The short answer to your immediate question though is that I haven't had them biopsied - I offered to the MRF but they showed no interest. I just did a tremendous amount of research and determined that I had unwittingly taken the specific combination of vitamin supplements for many years that are the natural nutrients that normally build collagens and keratins (the 2 main structural proteins that construct the body). This eventually resulted in an extreme excess of these 2 proteins in my body. The Morgellons-like symptoms started only when I stopped taking the supplements (which I think created a relative deficiency of these proteins in my body (including the skin) - this caused these overgrown fibers to start breaking down and the excess keratin caused many lesions. Some forms of psoriasis are called hyperkeratosis which means and excess of keratins. The link to my document is: https://home.comcast.net/~morgellons..._Cause_web.htm It has a lot of information on how the body constructs skin form a chemical (nutritional) and mechanical perspective.
