Hi Marsha, good to see you in the forum!
That is alarming that both you and your horse have been exposed to ticks, I hope that you find the solutions for both of you that fit with how you see health and healing and that works. There are many things that may help a lot; I share some of my own experience below. But first, your comment about the plastic-like exudate from the bites.
When I was at school we learned that a fluid from a bite or wound (sometimes amber/yellow or clearish) is composed of the by-products of several things (not all of which I list here).
A lot of it is spent or dead blood cells (red blood cells, and white blood cells the eg the 'good fighters') and intracellular fluid, combined with dead bacteria or other organisms, and other debris that the body is pushing out. It is the body's way of getting rid of pathogens, dirt and debris, that if left there would cause infection. The amber fluid often dries very hard and crystalline, sort of like varnish or shellac, but not always, sometimes it just remains sort of sticky or plastic-like. It also contains heparin, and the fibers that heparin forms into --a sort of network-ish self-made band-aid to stop unnecessary bleeding and to keep further debris and germs out of a healing wound; a scab in other words. All of this is a good indication that the immune system is working and the body is attempting to self-heal.
In homeopathy there is used a remedy to address the symptoms of Lyme from tick bites. I have used it many many times with animals, and know of humans who have use it as well; in all cases, I have known it to relieve the post-Lyme joint problems in latter stages of Lyme, and the early symptoms of inflammation and malaise that accompany the initial tick bite. The remedy has been shown to be effective no matter which species of tick bite caused the resulting infection.
Does it rid the body of the spirochette? I don't know. I do not know of any trials where positive Lyme cases have been given homeopathic remedies and then had the blood tested for Borrelia. I observe, as do my (homeopathy) teachers that the remedy used does remove the symptoms associated with Lyme; the symptoms rarely return, and in cases where they do (usually 6 months to a year later) the remedy course is repeated to good effect.
The remedy is called Ledum, the potency used is 1M, and it is given three times a day for three days in a row. It does not improve the symptoms if it is not taken on this exact schedule, or if it is accidently antidoted by exposure to coffee or anything in the mint family (toothpaste, catnip, etc).
I have used Ledum with dogs and cats, and also with horses; it resolved one case of a horse that we suspected had a tick bite at some time in the past, and no amount of work could get this guy to stand square, he was always leaning to the left, and favoring his opposite hip, shied from being ridden and was very stiff and clumsy in the mornings, and if you asked him to move to quicky, he would bite. The symptoms of all of that went within a week of giving him the remedy, and he was a pretty happy guy who had a great personality once he was no longer in pain. A good result considering that he was 16 hands and a real challenge when in a bad mood! He was a Trakehner and very loved.
When remedies are taken they should be taken with a clean mouth eg no food or water 15 minutes before or after a dose. For humans a dose is 3 pillules dissolved under the tongue. For horses -who are so much larger-- a teaspoonful of pillules comprises a dose, and this can be poured directly under the lip, or added to the clean water bucket after grinding to a powder with a clean mortar and pestle. If using a mortar and pestle, one that has not had strong herbs or spices ground in it is better because strong odors will also antidote many remedies. With animals, one drink of 'remedy water' no matter how small a drink, is sufficient to dose them. One may simply grind the pillules in fresh water and pull them into a clean plastic syringe, and simply squirt the 'remedy water' into the cheek pouch or onto the tongue; it does not have to be swallowed, not all of the solution needs to get into the mouth, just most of it, at least a teaspoonful.
The amount of water needed to make a remedy diluted in water is not important; enough to dissolve the amount of pillules is all that is required, but using a bucketful will achieve the same result. Homeopathic remedies are not weakened by dissolving them in very large amounts of water like other substances. If you were to take a dose of a remedy and dilute it in a cup of water, one teaspoon of that solution would equal a dose; but the same is true if you diluted the same remedy in an ocean-full of water --one teaspoon of that solution would also equal a single dose.
In any event, all homeopathic remedies are available to anyone to order from companies that manufacturer them. One does not have to be a homeopath or a doctor to obtain them. They are available from many sources both in the US and UK, just 'google' homeopathic suppliers, homeopathic remedies retail or homeopathic remedies.
I could name several companies that I have always had good luck with, but prefer not to advertise on the forum threads. If you want more info, please PM me and I will be glad to answer any questions.
If you want to learn more about homeopathy there is a wealth of free information on the internet, some tutorial sites, too. The books used are many, but the two most common are the Materia Medica (the materials of medicine), and lists all the remedies and the symptoms associated with their use organized by body part or body system starting from the head and working downward. The other book is the Repertory, which is a list of symptoms (also by body part or system) and the remedies most frequently used for that particular symptom. Useful search engine terms would be homeopathic Materia Medica on line or homeopathic Repertory on line.
Additionally, many companies that sell homeopathic remedies offer free little pamphlets about how to choose a remedy, how to store remedies, how to give a dose, what antidotes remedies and other helpful information. But you can also find all of that free on line, too, on many sites that discuss homeopathy and homeopathic principles.
About your first question, yes, I actually do know a woman who has the symptoms of Morgellons, and she has never had pets or animals of any kind, never lived with animals, and does not touch other people's pets because she does not really like animals. Not very common for people to dislike and avoid animals of all kinds, but humans are diverse and unique.
