We are thinking getting a dog and afraid that somehow I could infect it if it accidentally drinks out of toilet bowl. (will keep it closed) Will the Lymes vaccine help keep him safe? When I started showing symptoms our 2 lap dogs shortly followed. I had a doctor that told me it was very contaigeous and they were so sick and covered with lesions we put them down. It is now 15 months later and I know they may could have been saved and our hearts are broken and want to get another dog. The house we live in now is not where it was contracted so environment is not a problem. Any thoughts?

Do you have morgellon's? The Lyme vaccine doesn't protect against morgellon's, does it? I didn't know they made a Lyme vaccine for dogs. My dog has morgellon's and she gets lesions, which I don't. My vet gave her ivermectin. She still has other symptoms but hasn't had any more lesions. When she goes I'll want another but will try hard to keep myself from getting one. There's too much chance to pass it on to the pet. And then you pass it back and forth and there's no end to it.

I do have Morgellons but actually believe it is due to a Hyper Immune defect and my body's reaction to the Lymes. I have Fibers and Lesions but they have found in several studies that is not what is contaigeous. It is blood and body fluids that will have the bacteria in it.

My dog had the Lyme vaccine before we got her at the Humane Society and she caught it. She has white and black hair similar to the fibers and they are everywhere in my house. I never know which is a fiber and which is her hair and it drives me crazy! She sheds these green florescent fibers everywhere she lays and the Vet cannot find what is wrong with her. We have tried deworming and it hasn't helped. If I were to do it again, I would not get a dog even though I love her very much. Even if they stay indoors, they go outside to potty and bring all kinds of critters in with them. It is hard enough dealing with this myself and for my son but it's even harder with the dog because she eats everything and rolls around in the grass.

Meagan, has your vet tried Ivermectin? It didn't cure my dog but it did help. We only used it once; if we'd been able to use it more than once, who knows, maybe she would have gotten rid of it. She has other health problems, though, and it wasn't safe.

We paid $300 to have her respiratory system tested because he refuses to believe that it's her skin and it came back normal. I haven't tried Ivermectin yet but will need to find another Vet because this one will not prescribe it. We took her to the vet in the first place because we went out of town two weekends ago and asked a friend to watch her (because I also believed that the fibers were not contagious) but the guy could not keep her after a day because he became highly allergic (itching and sinus issues). He gave her to another friend of ours and she also had serious allergy symptoms and itching with her saliva. She couldn't wait until we came home to bring her back. Neither of them are normally allergic to dogs and the Vet checked for fleas, etc... and nothing was there. It makes you wonder.

We bought the horse Ivermectin off the internet, looked like a big shot but was just a thick gel, (no needle) had slots to show how much to dose per weight but did not find it did much good and were afraid to give too much as it does wreck thier kidneys if too much. Our whole household took it in the beginning of this ordeal as we thought we had bird mites or something. The only thing that happened was the 1st time we took it, thick spider webs came out of me and 1 of our dogs but did not phase any symptoms. I think Borax in the dogs water may help? See the Earth Clinic website.

Bebe, have you decided if you want to do this yet? I'm not trying to talk you out of it, I just think it's a big decision. With this disease and no cure, I have a hard time being around my family afraid that it is contagious. I have been convincing myself that it's not but, I have to question why my dog and 10 yr old son have it. My dog is only a year old and was healthy when we got her. I wish I could find her a new home because of the fact that I cannot differentiate between her hair and the fibers and the fact that I am so sick, it's hard to treat her and my 10yr old at the same time. But, my conscience will not allow me to hand her off to another family who may contract this disease from her and besides, we adore her and it would break my son's heart. I know I have to treat her because otherwise, if it is contagious, we are giving it to each other and I do not want her to get sicker but it's really hard. I am looking into buying Ivermectin at the local feed store. But, I fear that just like Iver didn't work for you and your family, it is not a cure and this will be a forever battle. Thanks for your info about buying it on the internet. I hope I didn't sound harsh. I just wish I had known I had M before getting a dog and wish someone would have reminded me of how much work it is. Whatever you decide to do, I'm sure it will be what's right and if you choose to get a dog, I'm equally sure it will have a wonderful home with you and your family. Meagan

| BB, Anything you do that brings you joy, you should do. This "M" instills fear and that is one of the worst parts about this disease. My daughter & I adopted a kitty from the Espanola, NM pound in Jan '10. She is really healthy and brings us so much joy! Her name is Angel ![]() Check out "Bug-Arrest". I used to spray this on my body & all over my home when I was really sick from "M", but it is an organic enzyme & sold at pet stores. If you can't find it locally, here is a link: Bug Arrest ************************************************** ******************* Bug Arrest™ As a Pet Shampoo Soak the animal with warm water. | The Ivermectin my vet gave was liquid, taken orally once a week for four weeks. She had no adverse side affects that I could see but because of her seizure disorder he's very conservative with her. Meagan, if your dog is healthy in other ways maybe you can find a vet who will give it periodically. Do you have any alterntive medicine vets in your area? They might take morgellon's a little more seriously. My vet is not, but he's taken care of my dogs for years and knows I'm not off my rocker. He said he found it in legitimate vet literature on the internet but later said he couldn't find it again. Personally, I think this is contageous, at least at some times. If I'm crawly, I assume I'm contageous. |
