Default help for pets

I'm putting this site on for pet owners who may find some helpful tips here.
Systemic Yeast Infections in Dogs | Fungus, Bloat, Candida Albicans | GREATDANELADY.COM

A tip I read for yeasty ears in cats and dogs was to mix small amount of Bicarbonate Soda with Alum add water and clean out ears with it.It worked on my ears to stop the itch so would imagine it would do the same for animals.I think this recipe was a take off of something called THORNIX (or something like that -sorry i forgot) which is a brand you can buy for pets ears.

Default Pets

Hey Pat,

Is bicarbonate powder the same as baking soda? Can we get alum at Walmart or drugstores?

My Gus' ears are a terrible mess. He is constantly flapping his ears and sticking his foot in his ear. I hope to try this, as the other things I have tried do not work well on Gus.

Great link.

Hella

Hi Hella.yes bicarbonate is the same as baking soda. I think you may be able to buy alum in the US.I bought mine from ebay and it came from the Phillipines.
I think this was based on the Thornit remedy for dogs ears.Popular amongst people who have show dogs with ear probs. If you do a search you will see there are a few varients on the original recipe.

And if either don't work this might. Note it contains gentian violet and boric acid, both excellent anti fungals.

Default Doggie morg ears

Thank you gigi22 and Pat for your replies and help.

I am trying the baking soda and alum first, because it is the cheapest! Maybe Pets Mart has one of the two other ones. That would save me time and shipping costs.

Thanks to you, hella

My Dog was like a skeleton at one point, Sheredelight. No matter how much I fed him.
Sorry if I m boring anyone but he began to gain weight when I cut down on the dog food and used our leftovers in place of the dog meal/biscuits.

Lots of people have used things that worked .
Hopefully someone will post who remembers

Default just Pm-ed this to someone....

''Research currently views Morgellons Disease to be zoonotic - capable of being shared between animals and humans. Reports from sufferers speak poorly of dogs, cats and horses in particular.

Their symptoms can be much like humans. Here's some specific signs:

Itching and scratching
Sudden erratic movements - as if something has bitten them
Twitching muscles in sleep
Long fur growing in between paws (cats and dogs)
Static hair and greater hair loss
Dry, pale hairs growing from coat
White and black particles in coat
Small fibres coming out of coat
Sores and patches on legs
Black patches on anal area
Shedding of splintered claws
Appetite problems and refusal of wet food
Weight loss or gain
Lethargic, more sleepy than usual
Change in mood - causing depression or aggression
Treatments

Treat them regularly with tablet dewormers
Treat them regularly with flea treatment - use natural pyrethrum not piperazine products
Try adding diatomaceous earth in wet food - dry food for pets is better. If giving wet food do not leave it uncovered inbetween feeding times.
Supplement their diet with vitamins and minerals including Vit C & E
Include oily fish in food or Omega 3 supplements.
Cat hair balls may become more of a problem - hairball paste or hairball control food may help
If your pet has loose stools, try mixing Aloe vera in wet food
Brush their coat regularly outside (consider investing in a FURminator comb)
Use a clothes brush or delinting roller to help reduce coat particles during the day
Rub their coats with aluminium foil to reduce static hair
Use a non-toxic enzyme cleaning/shampoo product for their coats, such as Bug Arrest or Eco-vie - you may want to use a animal conditioner on their coat as the enzyme shampoo will remove natuaral oils *** THIS IS THE SAME AS KLEENGREEN!!!*****Give their coats a wash using a cloth and warm green tea to reduce itching
Use DSP cream on sores or neem products
Give your pet a massage to help to drain their lymphatic system (wearing gloves if you are infected)
Spray pet bedding and vacuum regularly.
Bug Arrest and Eco-vie AND KLEENGREEN are enzyme plant based products that kill insects, bacterias, fungus, grease. They are safe to be used externally on plants, animals, humans and around your home, car and garden.

and on using Diatomaceous Earth on pets and for human consumption...

more DE info Diatomaceous Earth Human Use, Natural Health Benefits, and Information for Humans

at site follow links for animal use too....

Default Endless Itching

I have not been on the forum for over a year because I went to school to learn hair mineral analysis and nutrition for dogs. I started my own company and tested over 100 dogs. All have the same problem - a deficiency of a mineral that is not supposed to be possible . . . manganese. Without adequate manganese, iron gets "stuck" in cells. Iron is always supposed to be moving. It especially goes into WBC's. So where there is inflammation, the white blood cells go and there goes more iron. The dogs itch, and out comes the iron specks, but the itching causes more inflammation and more iron keeps coming!

Commercial dog food causes this problem by putting too much phosphorus and zinc in the mix. Manganese is a very trace mineral and doesn't compete well with others. So the dogs get deficient.

And like many people know, when you stop using commercial dog food and feed a home cooked diet - the dogs improve lots.
