Menthol Crystals

I called the natural products store today looking for menthol crystals. The way the guy told me emphatically that they certainly don't carry them, I got the feeling I'd asked for something illegal or immoral. Are menthol crystals used for anything interesting? Should I be embarrassed?

And where would I find them other than the internet?

Sure you didn't ask for crystal meth instead? lol

You could try a pharmacy, some here sale them. I've only just started using them - in the wash and put a few crystals in the car, sometimes under my pillow case too.

I know of others that feel crystals keep away 'the bugs'.

Good thought, Jo. Thanks. The chain pharmacies wouldn't have them but maybe compounding pharmacies would; they're more like your chemists, I think. I'll give some a call on Monday.

I'd really like to try them. Diffused peppermint oil does help so the crystals ought to be even more effective. I want to put them in my clothes closets, laundry room and new car to start out on the right foot. Car accidents can be blessings in disguise! No more heavily-upholstered, morg-filled Buick!

I called a compounding pharmacy to find menthol crystals. Oh, sure; they could order them. Four ounces over $100.00!!!! Are you serious?? Are you folks who are using menthol crystals paying that much? How much do you use and how long do they last? That's horrendous!

I actually found them last night on the web. Those prices make WAY more sense and they'll let me order over the phone. Maybe the pharmacist I spoke with had been hitting some of his own pharmaceuticals...

You are so welcome, Sojii. I am glad you found them and they will let you over the phone.

I put them in all of my bags of clothers, shoes, pillowcase, bed, all in my floors and pmake little sachets and hang on a small fan or use a diffuser or just a little heat unit . I put some in a pyrex bowl and put them on the heater.

The smell in your home must be quite strong to get rid of the bugs. I spread other mints as well: Spearmintmint I grow, bay leaves, peppermint leaves and stems I grow.

Be sure to crack a window so the bugs can get out.

How strong? Is it safe to stay in the house? I'm thinking of my seizure-prone dog who only leaves the house to go to the vet and groomer. It's always an iffy proposition when I take her out.

There are screens on the windows; they can get out through them, can't they? Or do I need to leave a door open?

The peppermint oil I've been diffusing probably doesn't kill anything or even run them off, but it sure does minimize the swarming on bad nights. Maybe it just makes them light-headed

Take my word for it, if your pet has it, you can't run away unless you treat the pet simultaneously. This is without a doubt the most F***ed up condition on earth/ I have had cancer for goodness sake.... that was a cake walk.

The dog's being treated. Ivermectin, Bug Arrest baths. I have a feeling she won't be with me much longer anyway. Her health is generally deteriorating due to the seizure disorder and other health issues and she's old.
