JinPa, before you tear out anything at all, you ought to have a mold detection company as kritts mentioned (these companies are usually separate from the mold remediation companies to prevent conflict of interest) inspect and test your home. That way you will only do necessary repairs. It may not be necessary to tear out all your air ducts. Or even any. The company which detects mold will send you a detailed report after inspection on problems found. If mold is detected make sure the people you hire are qualified to remove affected areas of the house to insure your future health is not worsened. Incorrectly removed wall board or ducting can worsen rather than remediate mold problems. Sometimes some areas of a home can be simply be cleaned with proper mold killing products as applied professionally. Please learn all you can before you hire anyone to do anything to your home when it comes to mold. This is a non-profit mold association which has listed professionals who may help consumers:

Mold Training and Mold Certification from the National Association of Mold Professionals (NAMP)

Has anyone tried ionic silver as a surface disinfectant?

You can make it yourself dirt cheap, and it kills over 650 molds, fungi, bacteria, and virii.

I don't know for sure if it would work on what you are trying to kill, but if you want to try it....

THIS IS A VERY CRUDE, CHEAP METHOD TO MAKE IONIC SILVER COLLOID, DO NOT USE THIS INTERNALLY, FOR DISINFECTANT USE ONLY

Take three 9 volt batteries and wire them in series, (positive to negative)
get 2 pieces of .999 silver wire, if you get small gauge its cheap and you can twist them together. Hook 1 battery wire to each of the silver wire pieces and place them in distilled water in a quart jar for about 60 minutes. Shake the jar every so often, and switch the battery wires around every 10 minutes. You will get a little flaking on the bottom of the jar... (its cool , when you change leads you blow the oxide build up off the electrode)
Store in a dark place. It will turn yellowish after a day or so.. this is normal.
Like I said absolutely do not drink this.
It has larger particles than is desirable for internal use.... it is however a dandy and effective household disinfectant.

I have about a 1/2 gallon of that, not that brand but that product. I'll take some to Tampa tomorrow.
Silver works great on one celled bugs, but nothing multi-celled.

I'm giving away some samples tomorrow, and asking for feedback on them.
Ionic copper is a good fungicide, you make it the same way, it just takes longer, (lots).

Alright!!!!

I just got back results from my guy at our local community college.
My Silver Copper disinfectant killed bacterial cultures and mold in 5 minutes, with a residual effects lasting 24+ hours. All natural too.

It's Ionic Silver, Ionic copper, H202, and Ethanol in a small amount. No citrate or protein, I suspended 100 ppm using the H2O2 as a reducer. Super small nano particles. I need to send it to a real lab, but want to patent the process first.
This will kill MRSA and Swine flu on surfaces and about 650 other pathogens.
.

There are also some EPA approved Mild Silver Proteins on the market now as surface disinfectant, but the added copper gives added fungicidal properties.
They are called puregreen24 and Biopure.

He's talking about Kleen Green Naturally by Natural Ginesis.
Also, he clearly states that it needs to be diluted and they give directions on the bottle for the different strengths you should use for various uses.
