Default washing clothes questions

How do all of you deal with clothes that can shrink in the hot water. I wore a nylon/poly fabric skirt, and am afraid to wash it for fear that it will shrink. It is a new item of clothing, and I don't to destroy it after one wear.
Any advice.
i have been using hot water and citric acid wash, with soaking for a while,
Then the hot wash (140 degrees) again with borax.

Please give me your tips on how to care for good, delicate or new clothing.
Thanks,
J.

Hi D & J, or J, how are ya tonight?

I just wanted to say that I have been doing laundry for at least 30 years. I have never had anything that is nylon or polyester to shrink, they are both synthetic fabrics. You might not want to use bleach on this type of fabric if it is white, it will usually turn it yellowish.

Thank you, niecy.
So really hot water will not hurt those synthetics?
That was why I bought them but have been afraid to wash them nonetheless.

What about washing clothes with cotton, (100% or even 60%) while washing for this disease.
Most of my clothes is cotton, and I feel that I cannot wear them anymore, without ruining them all. I wear only two outfits anymore, that I wash over and over again, but after a while it is depressing to have to wear the same jeans and shirt till it wears out, in a matter of months.

Hi, heres my routine, most of the time unless I ruin something and shuck it out!

for colored clothes, velvits and nylons, cool water and some rubbing alcohol plus detergent.
Or if Im out of that, I use pinesol or any liquid that strips. Like amonia, or vinegar. The alcohol kills the fungus and bacteria.

I wash my good stuff in a plastic bucket in tub with a long stick, pushing it over and over, much rinsing. But alcohol helped me, I know its not good to breathe in so I bought paper masks at the Dollar store and wear them when cleaning car or clothes. The less these buggers get in my mouth and nose the better!

Of course I only buy white sheets and towels so I can use bleach. TyeDye is very poplar in my house cause Ive riuned alot of clothes!

I just do the best I can. Its so sad when we get a new dress or find a terrific outfit that has to be Dry cleaned!! Man! Im like, oh great can I wash it or do I have to throw it away? Ive said goodbye to alot of stuff. Oh well, God dont shut a door unless another is to be opened right? Peace out folks!

Natalie,
Speaking of throwing away... back in the 60's (I think) some genius entepreneur came up with disposable clothing. Wedding dresses too! I'm guessing the environmentally politically correct did that in!

Thank you Natalie,
So how much alcohol do you put in the cool water?
I am very happy t hear this works, as I have a cloth hat that is cotton, which I wore last year and am afraid to wear again this spring, or wash, as it will shrink. I used to always wear a hat in the sun and now, I don't wear a hat, don't wear seatbelts, because I am avoiding the Morgellons organisms. All my good habits have gone to Hades. Really Bad.

I buy some new piece of clothing, then decide to stuff it in a closet for the day when I can wear it without ruining it.

Hi, I dont know, I just open the bottle, splash it in twice and pray!! Really!
I also pretty much shop at thrift shops or get my clothes free from shelters. There are plenty around everywhere, and if you got a health issue than you deserve to shop there! Dont feel funny, save money. We spend out of control cause of this health issue dont we??

Ok, this was my idea last year. Summer time, Im hot my clothes are itchy, so I jump in the shower WITH my clothes on! I got a scrubby and some antibacterial soap, or flea shampoo, or anything you like to use and I scrub clothes on my body, take off and rinse. Saves money and time.

I take my cotton hat immediately to kitchen sink when I come home, spray with soap or anything I like and rinse under water. Hang as usual. I got a wooden clothes rack in 2 rooms. I got a pretty red macreme line right across the kitchen!! I dont care. I gotta do whats good for me!

Its fun talking with people who understand the high strangeness of our lives! Peace to you!

Same here, Thank you so much.
I agree that the rubbing alcohol does work, as we use it to spray down our sheets, so we do not have to wash them every single night. I wash them with citric acid every other night and this seems to work fine with the alcohol in between.

I hope somebody figures this disease out soon. it is creepy.
J
