Arrow Two days ago I had a large piece of Baklava and I feel fine

Yesterday I had a large piece of Baklava and I feel fine. It has been a long time since I had something sweet. I had to stop eating sugar and sweeteners and was affraid to eat honey as well, but two days ago I had some really sweet baklava and it is made with a lot of honey and I feel fine. So I want to ask you guys about your experience with food and honey especially. Sugar I still would not touch, but honey.... Hmmmm...

You don,t say what the sugar was doing to you. I,m sure when I systematic yeast any suger I took in was feeding it, but I never had any phyical reactions. I quit soft drinks several years ago. Never had been big on sweets though the amount of beer I drink is proabally chock full of sugar. What happens or used to with you and sugar?

I love Baklava! I don't think natural sugar or honey is bad. Nuts are healthy too. raisins too...

Be careful of preservatives, GMO's, corn fructose, blah blah blah...

And thanks a lot Don ! I'm on a search for baklava now!!! Yummy

itwl,

It is Greek recipe: Easy Baklava Recipe - Allrecipes.com using phyllo dough.

Here is another recipe for phyllo dough using spinach/feta cheese/phylo. very yummy! Spanokopita Recipe : Ina Garten : Food Network

Phyllo is a VERY thin pastry dough, found in the frozen section in the grocery store, and when you cook with it you use several layers. The result is a very crunchy "light" pastry between the ingredients in the recipe.

I am so hungry now~~~

Yes, it's a Greek thing and if you have a Greek church anywhere near you, watch for their annual Greek festival. The food at these churches is usually fabulous and you can have a lot of fun with the music and the group dancing as well. If you are lucky there will also be a good Greek restaurant around where you can sample some of the food year round.

Since going gluten free baklava is one of the many Greek foods I miss eating. No frozen gluten free phyllo dough is available so far. Fortunately some of the other Greek foods are GF so at least there is something I can eat.

Default Ah...Greek food....

My Italian forebears were Greeks who migrated to Italy. Almost anything Mediterranean or middle Eastern is ok in my book. Since I'm avoiding dairy, I miss yogurt with dill poured all over everything. Good substitute for Ranch and is good for dipping chicken, beef and lamb as well as veggies and tastes darn good on light textured fish like Tilapia.

If I eat much sugar, chocolate or ice cream it sets off symptoms but a little sugar or chocolate doesn't bother me. I know I should stop altogether but a gal's got to do what a gal's got to do.

Talking Ooopsie daisy!

SO I guess I shouldn't have eaten it... Hmmmm.. I got some scratches on the back... they are not bad, but they are an oddity compared to what what I've been experiencing lately, so I deem the baklava to be the cause. About dairy, I have nothing against it, personally! Kefir is a very healthy drink, yogurt, cheeses are all good with me. People say that plain milk is not good for adults and maybe it is so but I dont drink it so I don;t care about that... But I do stay away from sugar and that includes sugar that is in fruits and vegetables so I dont eat much beats or apples, bananas are bad, etc... I used to allow myself a bit of this and that here but I stopped... Almost.. I still try things, sometimes, but .... without being around sugar much, my body got detached and I dont even want sweet things like I used to...
