Default Ultra Sound for DVT in leg

Due to continuous swelling and worsening pain in my left lower leg and ankle, my Dr. says I need to have an Ultra Sound done on my leg to be sure there is no blood clot- DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis).

The pain in my calf has gotten worse and it is always the worst in the morning when I wake up. If I fall asleep in a sitting position my leg will get really big and hard. When I sleep with legs reclined, still swollen but pain in calf much worse.

He wanted me to have it yesterday or today but he is independent and does not have a lab. When I went to the clinic of my PCP ( Primary Care Physician) they needed a formal Order and not one written on a script pad, like the old days. So I went to Internal Medicine Med. where my PCP is, talked to her Nurse and had her set it up. PCP knows about this issue so she will write up one of the clinics formal lab sheets.

I told my Dr. I guess I was thinking if it is a blood clot I was just waiting for it to kill me. He felt so bad he hung his head because he can't help me with M, even though he is trying very hard. All the info I get from here which is from Dr. or Med. Journal I send to him. He is my "Good" Dr. A real Dr., nowadays. Not many of them left.

So, I go in Tues. at 2:30. I will find out the results the same day so I will let all know. It may give way to anyone with swelling to have blood clot testing done as I am doing. Sometimes when we are chronically ill we tend to chalk everything up to that illness. Easy thing to do. I know M causes swelling so I am thinking that is what it is. Fibromyalgia causes pain so I chalk everything up to Fibro. Not always a good thing to do.

My Dad had PAD (Peripheral Artery Disease) and he ended up so bad that he had more than one amputation untill they had to take a leg off at the knee.

Funny thing I have noticed about my health. Most everything I saw in my Dad, I see in myself. I even sent for his medical records after he died and sure enough, "widespread body pain" was in his records; same as me.

Default Examine both parents health, and life ecperience

Posey, look into your fathers and mothers life, maybe he was exposed to situations he brought home from work on his cloths, my father worked in a old time print shop, yes it changed as time went on but he was surrounded by flying led all day long, the type was stamped into the lead and then clamped into a roller to print.

I can imagine he had some issues from the lead but his most prevelent threat was he was a sailor that docked in all of ASIA at the end of WW2. He stayed in occupied Japan, he had some small tiny aspects of our situation.
he had lower body skin problems, he had issues between the eyes, he also could not drink cold drinks as it would mess with his throat.

I believe this situation was around for a long time, man has aggravated the situation with overuse of antibiotics in food animals and people and other scientific marvels.

I got this in Asia, the issues were small and came and went in the beginning but got more prevelent over 38 years untill I was either reinfected by a stronger strain or spread throughout the body had taken its toll on my being.

It seems all have the itching and I know when and where that happened, how in the world could you miss that.

I was never treated for parasites and the itching subsided to nothing but never went away completly.

Was your father in WW2 and was he a sailor, truly it does not mean he could not have contracted it from another that contracted it from another, people try to put intimate contact or birth association out of the equation but these are the most probable of avenues,

How's this for a question, is there any of the afflicted that were not born, or is there any of the afflicted that never had sex.

I could imagine that I am as pure as snow, and there is no possibility that I am special and could not get disease from contact with others that are teaming with infestation, but then I am no virgin and I was born into the human race even if I am a ALIEN BEING !!

I've been through the exact same scenario posey, went to my GP at a time when I had what the doc referred to as "unilateral swelling" in my knee, calf, and foot. He too was concerned about the possibility of a blood clot so he sent me to the hospital ER where I spent the next five hours racking up over $4,000 in medical bills, which I still haven't paid. They did the ultra sound, took some blood, and tapped my knee for fluid which they examined in order to diagnose gout, which by the way is the only sure diagnosis for gout, a simple blood test for uric acid levels is by no means an accurate way of diagnosing gout but seems to be the method most used by the medical community.

Bottom line is no blood clot, no uric acid crystals therefore no gout, and a stumped ER doctor who could only recommend that I see a Rheumatologist which I did and needless to say he could find nothing wrong with me, and get this, I'm hobbling around on a knee the size of a melon and the bastard has the gall to insinuate that all I was trying to do was get out of working with a disability claim.

Typical doctor, can't find the problem so they pretend there isn't one, gives them a clean conscious I guess.

Sorry to not have anything positive to say posey, I'm just telling it like it is and all I could recommend is that if you don't have insurance and are going to have to pay for the ultra sound out of pocket then don't waste the money.

Posey, did your doc rule out edema first? Swollen legs and ankles are often caused by a dysfunctional lymphatic system meaning your body is having a hard time ridding excess body fluids. There are several reasons for this. Heart and Kidney failures, thyroid problems, overweight...etc.

Weak connective tissues can also play a role.

Edema - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dealing with Water Retention in Your Legs and Ankles

What Causes Water Retention?

Have you tried diuretics?

BUT....If you have severe pain and the doctor has already ruled edema out, I would definitely let an ultrasound examination done esp. since artery disease runs in your family. Another indicator that it might not be edema is that your leg/ankle is swollen after you get up. Usually water retention lessens after a while when you lie down or keep your legs up.

Best wishes,
Kat

I appreciate all your replies. My Dad was not in WW11 but his brother was and I'm sure some of his friends must have been. Yes, I believe all that you say Baraka is a possibility. Who knows, maybe mt Dad and Uncle/friend were rivals over the same girl at a point in their lives and via itimate transmission this "thing" was passed on.

I think I need to rule out the DVT or PAD thing, even though I believe it is from M. If I don't rule it out then my husband or anyone else will not believe for sure that it is from M. But then again, maybe in my case or even my Dad, M can cause DVT or PAD.

I have had fatigue and unexplained pain problems ALL my life. This fact is one that makes me wonder if I have had M for all my life; maybe even via conception. I just don't know.

One of my brothers used to smoke pot and got busted growing it. Due to not being able to smoke it due to this, he was abke to feel a pain which he went to the Dr. for and he had an Aortic Aneurysm and had to have an artificial valve put into his heart. He also had his shoulder fall apart; I can't remember the exact name of what it was but he had to have surgery.

When I had a herniated disc, the Dr., while twisting and moving my leg, asked me if there was connective tissue disease in my family. I don't know but I believe so. I believe my aforementioned brother has Marfan Syndrome because his stature is tall, thin, and one side of his chest is caved in. He is over 6 ft. tall and has weighed 143 since he was 14. He's now 58; no matter what he eats cannot gain weight.

My dad ending up shooting himself in the head in July of 1993. After having his leg amputated he still had the pain. It is called phantom pain. The leg which was causing the problem was gone but the brain does not know that. Strange hey? He suffered for 10 years. My Mother found him in the garage and he was still alive. By time the small town hospital was going to send him elsewhere he died.

High blood pressure and cholesterol are huge factors in my family also. Most of my siblings are on med for one or the other but I have no roblems with either. I eat tons of grain. I live it; always thought I should have been a cow.

Getting to lengthy here. I'm just hitting my waking up period so please disregard typos. I'n not going to check them, you know what is ment.

It is from M posey, I would bet my life on it, and M most likely existed in one or both of your parents and probably your siblings. I've been dealing with the effects of it for over 15 years and I see the effects of M in my mother, who has lymphoma, my grandmother, who died of Alzheimer's, and my sister who has diebetes. The most predominate effects on me have been joint problems with pain and swelling that lend to diagnosis' of gout and pseudogout like illnesses and dermatological problems that are diagnosed as psoriasis and eczema, it also has manifested as gullian barre syndrome causing my immune system to attack my own nerves.

This past week has been extremely stressful for me, stressed to a point I've rarely, if ever, have been, mainly due to the fact that I was laid off from my job on tuesday. As a result, over the course of the past 48 hours my foot and ankle have gone from fairly healthy to what I can only describe as a clubfoot, extremely swollen, red, and hot, with so much pain that without at least 1000 to 1200 milligrams of an anit-inflammatory like ibuprofen I wouldn't be able to walk. Stress, it's fuel to this organism, like the old saying goes, stress kills.

Hi friends i'm new. my input for today is to eat organic when ever you can, educate yourselves on the ingredients in most processed food and how harmful GMO'S are and how there is no safety testing by the FDA and EPA on this technology of gene splicing, but it is on the grocery store shelves. I know that these GMOS are in almost everything we consume. I know with out a doubt that most of the new chronic diseases are related to this, and other man-made activities. We need to contact our state reps and other persons of caliber this is just a start. We are being barded and our bodies are being changed by many insidious events that happen right in front of us but we are fooled in to believing its safe for us. Thats only a small part of the"Matrix" that we live in. ALWAYS BE YOUR OWN BEST ADVOCATE! EAT SOMETHING REAL TODAY YOU WILL FEEL MORE HUMAN AND TELL SOMEBODY YOU LOVE THEM.

Default ultra sound update

I have 3 clots in my lower left leg. They are not the round type blood clot, they are long. 2 are in my calf and 1 is behind my knee. It is Deep Vein Thrombosis.

I had to watch a video about Warfarin and another about giving myself shots at home (the shots are to get the blood thinned quickly because the Warfarin takes 5-7 days to thin blood). However, after finding out the cost of the shots, I opted not to do this.

The med. does not dissolve the clots, it only thins the blood so it can pass by clots.

Tomorrow I have to have blood checked again, and INS blood test, this is in order to get the War. dosage right. I also am having a Cat Scan for my lungs at 10 am to check for lung cancer. Cancer is one thing which can cause blood clotting. Also, I have been having shortness of breath so that could mean a Pulmonary Embolism; meaning that part of one of the clots broke off and traveled to lung.

I went in yesterday thinking it was from M. So, I had no questions in mind to ask. Now I have many so I'll have to call nurse today and ask her.

I will let you know how the CT goes. If it does turn out I have cancer, treatment on my part would depend upon the stage of it. I won't rack up a humumgous bill just to leve it with my husband after I'm gone.

posey

due to these clots being lengthy and not the round tyoe clot, I ten to wonder if this is M in my leg.
escuse any typos, too tired to recheck

Had to add this:

WARNING: Don't chalk everything up to M. This has been going on for awhile with my leg and I should have had it looked at sooner but I thought the swelling and pain was from a mixture of M and Fibro.

DVT is a life threatening issue if not taken care of. A piece of a clot can travel to brain (stroke), heart (heart attack), lungs (pulmonary embolism, which is life threatening)

But I wonder; the medicine doesn't dissolve the clots so can a piece still break off?
