DIETHYL CARBAMAZPINE IN THE TREATMENT OF MORGELLON'S DISEASE
( DELUSIONAL PARASITOSIS)

Anubha Mutaneja, Neelam taneja Uppal, M.D.
Maulana Azad Medical School , New Delhi, India

Abstract Text: DI ETHYL CARBAMAZAPINE (DEC) IN THE TREATMENT OF MORGELLON'S DISEASE

OBJECTIVE: To identify and treat patients with the symptoms of Morgellon's Disease

METHODS; Patients with sign and symptoms of Morgellon's Disease were identified Several parasitic laboratory tests were performed. 4 patients received treatment Di ethyl Carbamazpine with their own arrangement and reported response.

RESULTS: All patients reported improvement in certain symptoms of Morgellon's disease.

CONCLUSION: Patients with Morgellonfs disease complain of symptoms of crawling sensation, skin lesions and fiber like organisms coming out of their skin, scalp and bowel. There is cross reaction seen with tests for filarial, schistosoma and strongyloides in certain patients. The filariform symptoms resolved with the administration of DEC. Hence, we conclude the DEC may be used in certain patients suffering with certain symptoms of Morgellon's Disease.

Default Diethylcarbamazapine or DEC

I have never heard of that drug kmar, but it is interesting in that it treats filarial type worms and does not resemble other anthelmintics. It contains no metal (I assume it is antimony it is being compared to which is used in advanced cases of filarial worms). It appears to be specific to filarial infections. Interesting that this doctor reported about the use of this drug: "All patients reported improvement in certain symptoms of Morgellon's disease."

Since so many of us have noticed lymph gland involvement it is good to hear that some patients have had positive results with the use of this particular drug. I hope this doctor did return this year as it would be interesting to hear further updates about the use of this and other anthelmintic drugs on her patients. Using myself as a case, I am sure that those who have parasitic infections quite often have more than one type of infection which definitely would complicate treatment. It is good to hear this multiparasitic involvement some of us have noticed is being recognized and tested for by at least a few doctors. Here's her statement:

"There is cross reaction seen with tests for filarial, schistosoma and strongyloides in certain patients."

Thanks for posting this information as I was unaware of it until now.

Diethylcarbamazine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DEC is indicated for treatment of individual patients with certain filarial diseases. These diseases include: lymphatic filariasis caused by infection with Wuchereria bancrofti, Brugia malayi, or Brugia timori; tropical pulmonary eosinophilia, and loiasis.

In cases of onchocerciasis, another common filarial parasite, the drug is not used. This is because of the intense and unbearable itching associated with the dead subcutaneous parasites.

DEC continues to be the mainstay for treatment of patients with lymphatic filariasis and loiasis. DEC is also used in the prevention of dog heartworm Dirofilaria immitis.

Default I do not know

I saw this doctor. I am not so certain she has the real answer, she actually wanted to try this on me, the drug and I had some things that needed taking care of first. there also was the 300 dollars for each visit that kinda stopped me from going, my insurance did not cover specialists. Out of pocket money, common doctor drugs, one thing I give her, she listened. That alone gives you faith and when she spoke she also spoke well on the subject matter in a way you can understand. She asked me if I had itching, not for a long time I said. She saw my video's and seemed to think it was what she imagined, maybe! I could go back and get this drug I imagine. Would it be worth the $300 for a prescription and then the price of the drug, not if I can order it ONLINE, in fact i could go to the doggie center and get filaribits, LOL.

In dogs the dead worms clog the heart, now I know of a guy that is having some form of heart failure that they said he was gonna die, the doctor that went up into the heart itself with a scope said it looked like swiss cheese he said. My question to him was, what did the doctor say makes holes in hearts, he said he did not ask!!!!!!! maybe doctors just assume that it must be illegal drugs doing the damage, or doctor drugs, needless to say, that was exactly THAT, goodbye have a nice short life. Was somthing boreing the holes in his heart?

I saw Dr. Uppal in 2007. She didn't order any tests, but prescribed an antibiotic (Zth??), stromectol, and albendezole. The next time I went (2 weeks later) I was twice as bad so she added prednisone to the other 3 meds.
I finished all the meds for the following 2 weeks, but that was the end of my "prescription" route. Because of my reaction (getting worse) I decided to go all natural...thank God I did...

It seems so strange that doctors give patients scripts for drugs with no prior testing. How then do they determine they are even necessary? Also there is probably a way to do take these drugs (including antibiotics) so that a parasite infection is not worsened. Yet from what I hear very little instruction is given as to how to use drugs most effectively. SS it sounds as if there was parasitic involvement if you got worse from using these drugs. Perhaps your reaction was similar to that mentioned by folks who have river blindness and had used DEC. The reaction to the drug was too strong for that particular parasite and its use was abandoned by doctors.

Each of us is different as far as how our bodies will react to any particular drug or natural treatment. SS was wise to follow what her body was telling her. That's what I do as well. When something starts to make me sicker that is the end of its use.

In her defense, she saw me almost immediately after I called.
When I called (I had just learned the name of what was wrong with me, and a friend got her name from the MRF for me) she got right on the phone with me despite never having seen me. She was reassuring and kind.
I was totally frantic when I saw her, just shaking and crying. I think she felt pressured to try to help me. God, how awful that time was!
I can't complain about no tests anymore. I recently had a slew of tests done - a total of 33 vials of blood, a random urine, and a 24 hour urine!
Awaiting results. The only one I got back was a slightly elevated CD 57 (, so I guess I don't have chronic Lyme...

Hey - Baraka - we need you at Sunday's meeting! Cancel your trip!!!

SS

ps - a "special" guest will be there from out of state....

Man in the abstract below had Strongyloidosis and would have survived if given Ivermectin or Thiabendazole.

OH My ....... another special guest! Should I hop on a plane to find out who this special quest might be? Are they musically inclined?

Seriously, after doing some reading, you (SS) are doing well with your meetings in FL. This is great and more should follow your lead. The "special guest" remarks leave a little TOO MUCH to the imagination.

Kudos to the Dr's care and approach. I certainly hope these Dr's do a little research, understand possible reactions and side effects of the drugs they prescribe so they can relate what everything means to their patients to the best of their knowledge. Being able to determine the difference between die-off and drug side effects is difficult enough for the patient.

Thanks for the PDF Kmar
