| In this new abstract we learn that HAT or Histone acetyltransferase Rtt109 is required for Candida albicans pathogenesis. Histone acetyltransferase Rtt109 is required for C... [Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2010] - PubMed result Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2010 Jan 26;107(4):1594-9. Epub 2010 Jan 4. Histone acetyltransferase Rtt109 is required for Candida albicans pathogenesis. The researchers state that RTT109 is important for fungal pathogenicity and suggest the find as a unique target for therapeutic antifungal compounds. Can we hope for a new patent? Quick? | Not exclusive to rtt109 but rather to histone acetyltransferases- HATs in general: Methods to Inhibit Histone Acetyltransferase Using Glycosaminoglycans - Patent application Fair use Excerpt: [0007]Hyperacetylation within cells mediated by histone acetyltransferases is associated with a hypoproliferative phenotype and leads to a variety of disorders such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, proliferative eye disease, psoriasis, diabetic retinopathy, arthritis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, as well as others. Cigarette smoking has been linked to the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cigarette smoke has been shown to increase histone 4 acetylation (Marwick, J. A., et al., 2004; Rahman, I., et al. 2004). Recently, in humans, increased histone acetylation has been associated with emphysema as the result of insufficient histone deacetylase activity (Ito, K., et al. 2005). Moreover, corticosteroid resistance in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease has been attributed to inactivation of histone deacetylase which can be restored by treatment with theophylline ***(Cosio, B. | REL HSP104 per above: What is a Heat Shock protein (HSP)? Heat shock protein - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Fair use excerpt: Heat shock proteins (HSP) are a class of functionally related proteins whose expression is increased when cells are exposed to elevated temperatures or other stress.[1] This increase in expression is transcriptionally regulated. The dramatic upregulation of the heat shock proteins is a key part of the heat shock response and is induced primarily by heat shock factor (HSF).[2] HSPs are found in virtually all living organisms, from bacteria to humans. Heat-shock proteins are named according to their molecular weight. For example, Hsp60, Hsp70 and Hsp90 (the most widely-studied HSPs) refer to families of heat shock proteins on the order of 60, 70 and 90 kilodaltons in size, respectively.[3] The small 8 kilodalton protein ubiquitin, which marks proteins for degradation, also has features of a heat shock protein.[4] end excerpt WikiGenes - HSP104 - Heat shock protein that cooperates with... | Excellent post at LB re: Pathogenic Candida Albicans LymeBusters - Pathogenic Candida Albicans- CAUSE Mold-Help.org: Candida AlbicansThe BEST toxic mold site on the Fair use excerpt: It is extremely important to know that the conversion of the yeast form to the fungal form of Candida is partially dependent upon biotin deficiency. Dr. Yamaguchi and colleagues have recently found that when biotin is added to the medium in high levels, it can prevent the conversion of the yeast form of Candida to its fungal form. They have also found that the fatty acid oleic acid seems to prevent this same conversion. This concept has been used very successfully in conjunction with the Lactobacillus acidophilus culture to treat Candida Albicans. Biotin is given orally (1,000 mcg. taken three to four times daily) along with two teaspoons of olive oil taken three times daily, as a source of oleic acid. This is done along with a higher than normal fiber diet, using oat bran fiber, to increase the absorptive surface area of the fecal material and to hasten the elimination of metabolic by-products. This may have to be continued for a period of one to six months, depending on the severity of the infection and the length of time that there has been a Candida problem. end excerpt Trimorphic stepping stones pave the way to fungal virulence ?
