Articles like these are abundant, it is clear that this issue is not resolved and that the Prion theory is not proven so Venetia where do you get off by claiming that Prions ARE (as you so emphasized in caps) the cause of Alzheimer's?

But the theory is incomplete. It doesn't explain exactly how the misshapen proteins trigger the avalanche, or why the disease can take so long (sometimes decades) to appear. Even his supporters were surprised this year when Professor Prusiner received the Nobel Prize for Medicine; Nobels are usually awarded for work which has proved itself fully.

Not all researchers are sold on the prion theory; many believe that a more traditional pathogen like a virus will yet be isolated. Last week this camp got a boost when the journal Science published a study in which a group of lab mice injected with BSE-infected tissue all came down with the disease, yet fewer than half were shown to harbor Prusiner's infectious prions. Opponents of the prion theory say this proves the proteins don't cause disease. Proponents insist that the methods used to detect the molecules were simply not sensitive enough.

Science agrees that the plaques associated with alzheimer's look like a sponge, the composition of the plaques are nearly identical to the collagen fibrils produced by the sponge, the neurofibrillary tangles associated with Alzheimer's are identical in size as the spongin-B fibers produced by the sponge and the molecular masses of the proteins associated with these tangles, 68, 64, or 60 kDa, have also been found to be associated with the sponge.

There is simply much more evidence that the sponge is the cause of Alzheimer's than the unproven Prion theory, just because this guy won the Nobel prize for his theory doesn't mean it's right, it's obvious that the individuals who award the prize are a little out of touch with reality when you consider who they just gave the Peace prize to, a man that has done absolutely nothing to deserve it.

Steve- you could best defend your theory by researching it- as relates to real life- IOW- show
where sponges are used so you can support how people may have been infected with them.

A for-instance would/could be- the sponges that women used back in the day- as birth control.

Not a barb - just stating what I would do with any given theory.

I can continue to provide articles that say just the opposite Venetia but I'm not going to waste my time on you, the theory is not proven, it's as simple as that.

The bottom line is they are not advancing in the research of this disease as they should be if they really knew the cause. Since you have so much faith in these Scientists why don't you ask them what they think about morgellons? I would be willing to bet that they would side with popular belief and claim it doesn't exist or is only in the mind so why are you even here since morgellons must not be real, it can't be real if most of the world thinks it's not,right?

As to your post- re: some do not agree with the prion theory as relates to Alzheimer's-

First off- your link- citing those who not believe the theory comes from US Beef-

Of course cattle ranchers would have an interest in foisting off the blame elsewhere. If people
knew the truth, they might not eat beef - then where would Mc D's and Burger King be? Not to mention
the cattle ranchers who are fighting the info- tooth and prion... er nail.

I firmly believe that if truth were known- really known- none of us would eat another quarter pounder.

That aside, your 'source' is 1997- too old to be applied to information in this area. IOW- DATED.

That's an interesting approach Sack, how in the world did you find such an article, were you searching for something you didn't need, like another hole in your head?

I suppose it might work if the reason they got to the brain was because they just keep going up looking for a way out of the body.

That's pretty weird Sack, interesting the way that works, it's almost like an invasion of privacy, but I guess you can't expect any privacy on the internet, it is a little bit rude though don't you think? I'm still wondering how they do that.
