| That was informative, Posey- thanks for posting. I know of someone with the same symptoms that the woman in the video is experiencing. Could be the problem? Muni or City water is the souce. Comforting. They mention silica as well in the video. NTMir Fair use Excerpt: Insight The purpose of this website is to provide insight into the disease caused by nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), and to empower the patient to participate in his or her own treatment. NTM is also known as atypical tuberculosis (Atypical TB) or Mycobacteria other than tuberculosis (MOTT). This Website has been designed for informational purposes only. Please do not rely on this information as a substitute for personal medical diagnosis or treatment. If you have a health concern please consult with your doctor. Different types of NTM: NTMir - Glossary Fair use Types of nontuberculous mycobacteria - MAC or mycobacterium avium complex, M. kansasii, M. abscessus, M. chelonae, M. intracellulare, M. fortuitum. (m. is used as an abbreviation for mycobacterium) Bronchiectasis (bron-kee-ek'-tas-is) – A condition that results from damage to the airways of the lungs. Changes that damage muscle or elastic tissue of airways and create permanent dilation that may result in formation of pouches in the airways. These pouches are susceptible to bacteria because this damage makes it difficult to clear mucus in a normal fashion. Chronic or repeated infection can cause loss of structural integrity of the bronchial tree. Chest P.T . - A type of respiratory physical therapy in which the patient receives percussive therapy with cupped hand clapping or with a vibrator to loosen and mobilize secretions thereby facilitating mucus clearance. This is often performed in conjunction with postural drainage. COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) – A generalized designation for diseases involving persistent airway obstruction such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Emphysema – A chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in which the alveoli or small airways are damaged and make breathing more difficult. Flutter Valve™ - A mucus clearance device that works by vibration of airways to loosen mucus. It also increases endobronchial pressure. This device is from EdenTec™. Pep Valve – The Pari Pep Device™ is an expiratory resistance device that helps patients inflate their lungs. The resistance is similar to inflating a balloon and improves mucus (secretion) clearance. The Pari Pep Device has adjustable resistance settings. Postural Drainage – positioning a patient so that gravity helps clear secretions. The patient is positioned or tilted at an angle usually with head and lungs downward. Chest P.T. may also be done at the same time. Pseudomonas – is a gram-negative infection. It can occur in patients with other disease or immune deficiency due to other medications. Sputum/Mucous/Phlegm – Thick secretions found in lungs airways or sinuses. Port – An access line inserted into a vein for the infusion of intravenous (IV) medicines. "PICC" – Peripherally inserted central catheter access line for infusion of intravenous (IV) medicines. Usually inserted in an arm. Last edited by Venetia; August 29th, 2009 at 08:12 AM. |
