| This is a poll to see how many of us have white pox marks on our skin. This is especially noticeable on the forearms and hands? It looks like the pigment has been 'robbed' in places. |

I have a couple of ideas but first need to see if this is in common? All the Morgies I've polled so far has them. Wouldn't it be something if our disease was so easily identifiable by our doctors by just looking to see that we have white spots on our skin? And... these are 'spots' were there weren't lesions necessarily. Last edited by -----------; July 26th, 2009 at 04:13 PM. |

| On my upper right arm near the elbow, I have a small, white circular area with no pigment. On my forearm almost on the elbow, I have a larger oval area with no pigment. This came on in just the last few months. |

| I believe that many with this disease may also have thyroid and/or adrenal issues which are quite often connected to pigmentless white patches on the skin known as vitiglio. If you look you will see that many elderly people develop these white patches, no doubt because as they age their thyroid function slows and often remains untreated by doctors. Also other autoimmune diseases can be behind these types of problems: Researchers Find Genetic Connection Between Vitiligo, Thyroid Disease, and Other Autoimmune Diseases Researchers Find Genetic Connection Between Vitiligo, Thyroid Disease, and Other Autoimmune Diseases Tuesday April 10, 2007 Researchers reporting in the New England Journal of Medicine have reported that there is a genetic connection between the skin condition vitiligo, and other autoimmune diseases, including autoimmune thyroid conditions such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Graves' disease.Vitiligo is a chronic autoimmune disease involving white patches of pigmentless skin on various parts of the body. The researchers found that vitiligo was highly associated with other autoimmune diseases, including thyroid disease, pernicious anemia, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, lupus, Addison's disease, and adult-onset autoimmune diabetes. The researchers then were able to identify a particular gene that makes people more susceptible to vitligo and other autoimmune diseases, particularly autoimmune thyroid disease. The study is discussed in depth in the March 22, 2007 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, and more information on vitiligo is available at the About.com site on skin disorders. | TCM - Thank you for the post! I suspect I have thyroid issues, even though everything is in "normal" ranges... and I KNOW my adrenals are a problem .. I am working on both of them through my Naturopath. You can get your adrenal hormones tested through a urine and saliva test. I am low hormonally in just about everything. |
