Default Ques for Dr. Beverly/Female issues

Hi Beverly, someone recently posted that she hasn't had her period in the months since she started having symptoms. The same thing happened to me. My last period was in August, the same time I started having Morg symptoms. Do you think Morgellons could have caused this? I've skipped a few months once before and my doctor put me on low-level hormones for 7 days and I got it right away. But this time, after repeating the hormones, still nothing happened. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks Beverly! Mary

I am surprised that you would NOT respond to the hormone supplements. I have trouble explaining that, except that you may be so far off with your normal hormone cycle that you actually require BOTH estrogen & progesterone to first build up the lining and THEN trigger the menstrual flow. Birth control pills for a week or two, or one month cycle, would be the next step. But I would request baseline hormone levels, if your doc will do them, to test for pituitary gland, hypothalamus, and ovarian functioning.

Have you had a GOOD test for Lyme disease, yet? Chronic Lyme is notorious for attacking the hormone system and especially the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis in women. It is not uncommon for Lyme to cause a form of normal ovary-sized Non-cystic "benign cystic ovarian disease." although all the external, clinical findings resemble C.O.D. and most of the hormone levels are consistent with that--I actually doubt that the women who have Lyme induced cases have the exact same pathology going on, if someone removed their ovaries and and looked at them in a lab...BUT, we don't know yet.

And I haven't heard about Morgellons doing any of this before now. You guys are helping us understand this disease. Keep me posted.

Any sudden weight loss or poor nutrition that might be contributing to the change in cycle?

Bubba, you are one amazing woman! The information you have at the top of your head is absolutely unbelievable -- have you ever considered going on Jeopardy? You'd win big $$$! Thanks SO much for the info.

Beverly, my internist gave me a Lyme test in October and I tested negative. And I was supposed to have gone back to my gyn. a few months ago for a 6-month follow-up on the papilloma thing but honestly, dealing with the Morgellons was all I could handle. I've been so sick these past few months that skipping periods for 6 months totally slipped my mind until I saw someone else post about it last week. Thanks SO much for your insights. Mary

Bubba, I just saw your post to Mindy regarding this. I have lost a lot of weight since August -- and I am nearing that age (damn!). It never occurred to me that it could be Morg-related til I saw Mindy's post. Thanks again.

Just to add to the list of names who have been without a period...add me to it...I have also been without one since August...my "bug" stuff seemed to start September 1st...Of course, I am getting on up there, and I do have the hot flashes...but I am remembering reading that it could also be a symptom of Morgellon's....Dr. Beverly? Your consensus? Is that the right word? Kentucky haze

KH, I too get confused about the hot flashes -- is it Morgellons ... or the dreaded "change?" However, I notice that RIGHT after I treat a sore, I'll get an immediate sensation of heat. Also, given that I took a 7-day hormone treatment -- which had worked in the past -- and nothing happened, maybe there is a link to Morgs.

Anyone else out there who's experiencing this? Thanks! Mary

FYI .. One of those fungal terms I posted the other day -- either mycotoxicosis or stachybotrys -- mentioned messed up menstruation cycles as a symptom.
