Default Joni Mitchell being treated for Morgellons

BILLBOARD MAGAZINE

Joni Mitchell Hopes To Spread 'Fiddle'
Joni Mitchell

February 20, 2009 03:30 PM ET Gary Graff, DetroitWith "The Fiddle and the Drum," her collaboration with the Alberta Ballet, recently documented on DVD, Joni Mitchell is looking forward to spreading the piece worldwide.

"The whole thing in a certain way is out of my hands," Mitchell tells Billboard.com. "It's going to be featured at the (2010) Winter Olympics in Vancouver. We've had a request from Alabama, of all places, to play. It depends on money and a lot of things.

"My art dealer spoke to someone who runs a concert hall in New York, and they said they would take it there if I appeared. I don't know how much of that there would be, but I love going with the company. They're my kids at this point. It's just been such a delight working with these people."

Choreographed by Jean Grande-Maitre with Mitchell's full participation, "The Fiddle and the Drum" blends together her music (including several songs from her latest album, 2007's "Shine"), dance and war-themed images from her latest visual art project, "Green Flag Song." It was first conceived as an autobiographical piece -- deemed "a little fluffy for the times" by Mitchell -- then a sort-form ballet before growing to a 48-minute production captured on the new DVD.

Most recently Mitchell and Grande-Maitre have expanded "The Fiddle and the Drum" yet again with four more songs, including her iconic "Woodstock." The full-length piece has already played in Saskatoon, rolls into Edmonton on Saturday [Feb. 21] and returns to Calgary on Feb. 26, which will be filmed for a hoped-for future DVD release.

"The Fiddle and the Drum" remains the primary focus for Mitchell, who's also in the midst of treatments for Morgellons syndrome, an infectious and potentially debilitating skin condition that's put other endeavors on hold for now. "I think it's quite an interesting entertainment," she says of the ballet. "It acts like a play even though it's modular and non-linear, and people respond to it that way in the theater. It's such a joy for me. It's thrilling."

Kritters -
All I know is what is in that last paragraph...just one sentence.
I'm sure she knows about some of "our families" - how else does one get "diagnosed". Oh, wait a minute - that's how we catch it, from the internet, right??
Thank you, Joni, for "coming out", if you read this. You have NO idea how many people you have helped throught your honesty.

Post Joni

I'm reeling from this news. I so adore her and admire her courage and honesty in not hiding this from the public. How precious her music has been to me as I grew up; being blanketed in notes of undiluted radiance. Sadsack and Kritts are correct. This selfless act will affect so many and cause a ripple effect that will bring about true changes we never dreamed possible.

wow--i'm sad for joni and happy for us.

is this the first major public figure to admit to having morgellons? i know amy tan has talked about her lyme disease, but i don't know if she also has morgellons....

joni is a wonderfully cranky old broad who's not afraid of calling a spade a spade. she certainly hasn't been shy about how letting us know how little respect she's gotten for much of her later work. hopefully she'll turn some of that toward the media and get more folks to reckon with this.

kinda weird, because i had this lovely dream last night that i was in london with my husband and he sang "a case of you" in my ear while we walked down the street. real life has been s**cking lately, so my dreams are compensating

Post I just gotta ask

Can anyone tell me exactly how did she get diagnosed if there are NO Parameters yet. I guess if you are rich you can have any disease that you want. I would rather be a LYMES VICTIM it carries less fear with it. If you saw my sisters face when I chase her , LOL, you would realize what happens to people after they read, worms, fibers, lesions, and so on and so on!!! Funny thing is I can easily see her husband has it, he is a truck driver and probably has been doing ladys of the night at the truck stops.
