Default Woods lamp experience

Hey guys,

Today I did something which I had thought of before but never acted upon.
I came across a link in which I was researching ringworm type infections in dogs and cats fur. The particular excerpt stated that ringworm will flourese bright green if held under a woods lamp.

Here is the link:

Ringworm a persistent fungus
___________________________________
The excerpt:

Ringworm in Dogs
Over 70% of cases are caused by Microsporum canis, and 20% by M.gypseum, 10% by Trichophyton mentagrophytes.

Definitive diagnosis is often confirmed by skin scraping and fungal culture. The Woods Lamp will fluoresce M.canis infections (and M.equinum in horses) only.

Dog lesions are classically those of hair loss, with scaly patches and broken hairs. Circular, bald patches 1 to 4cm diameter are commonly seen. Lesions often give the impression of having been shaved, and can occur on any part of the body. Dogs may develop folliculitis with papules and pustules. Generalised ringworm in adult dogs is uncommon, except in immune deficient animals. Lesions are generally more conspicuous in young animals, while older animals have more discrete lesions, or none at all. Ringworm in dogs generally clears spontaneously, but there is a risk of spread to other animals and children, so treatment hastens response. Local lesions respond to topical treatment with creams or ointments, and whole body washes may be used.

Most dog ringworm infections come from cat contamination initially.

Well, then I started to think.....THE DOG....and remembered they have something called the "Stink Finder" which illuminates all variety of stain on carpets.

So I purchased a stinkfinder woods type uv light at PetSmart and waited til dark and expected to discover a flourescent dog this evening. Not so. He did have a little dry scalp but NO elongated fungi type matter.

ME on the other hand lit up. I'm coated. Not surprised. What did surprise me however was that this can be used as a tool...or a marker so to speak to see what is working effectively or NOT.

I proceeded to take a shower in NIZROLE thinking that what was on me was perhaps fuzz of some kind and would wash off.

NOPE.

I became WORSE after showering people. Water makes this stuff grow.

Interesting. Now I at least have a tool to see if my oral and or topicals have more or less effect. I'm going to take a neem shower tomorrow and check results.

Sorry to bore you but this was kinda cool .... if it doesn't freak you out to know that things are growing out of you...

Until next time.

Morgan

Default A description would be nice

how much was the light, it is a black light right. A good description of what you are seeing would be nice. I had this happen in 1975 or so, it was early on in the disease. I was going to dance clubs and they had mega blacklights, one night a girl told me I was covered with the garbage. I had one of these lights at home so I tried it, OMG, walking lint magnet I thought. I did my laundry alone, as some of the cloths people in the family wore were fuzzy, I used a dish towel (no fuzz) to dry after a bath, cleaned the dryer filter all the time, used dandruff shampoo. The final outcome, I felt it was fuzz from somwhere getting on me in the house, so I did not go to blacklight dance clubs. Now it is quite clear, it is connected to this an early form of the fibers maybe, they were short lint looking strands, most all were white the same length, others were green and orange but those were like 1 in 1 million. They were all about 3/32 to 1/8 inch long. I no longer have them on me as I checked. Hey Sadsak that would be a good thing to bring to the meeting, a little show and tell. Doing the doctors would be a help, they just may see the urgency.

I've got to have one. We could see what happens when we use a vacumn cleaner on them too.
Do they stay in the bag or shoot out of the filter back into the air.
Would a good camera show the effects of a back light?

Default More information..

Hello Barack & Carla,

Boy I wish I had a camera or video to capture this but I don't .

I know what you mean Carla about the vacuum bag..haha.

The particular black light model I purchased cost me about $20.00.

It has a flashlight on one end and a black light on the side.

Amazon.com: Stink-Finder Light: Home & Garden Amazon.com: Stink-Finder Light: Home & Garden
The fibers flouresced a blueish green. Husband thought more blue than green.
He is probably right.

The size variant was really small from about 1/16 " of and inch to about 3 " inches (the ones I can see with the naked eye).

Upon waking more came out....longer ones. I took a neem shower and was even more covered than from the Nizrole use. So maybe them coming out ISN'T a bad thing. Maybe it is a GOOD thing having them come out. I always feel better when I wash them off.

Oddly, I did note that the lower leg that I shaved had NO fibers lighting up afterwards.

A sidenote. I air dried to prove to myself that it wasn't the towel doing this.
Also I filled a glass with the water from the shower tap to see if they were coming from the water. Nothing found in the tap water.

This is soooooooooooo weird.

If you do get one Carla...please brace yourself. I went throughout my home seeking any form of mold or otherwise to maybe find the source of infection...and all I discovered is how much cleaning I NEED to do...OMG.

hahaha..

All for now.

Morgan great idea checking the water did you use the HOT water and air drying. The black light is a rude reminder of the kind of filth all around us!! I did it last night to see and found just the areas I have treated (purple skin) and white underskin plaque that is still left. There were some glowing ceiling hair like things almost evenly spaced and mostly all the same size. There was no clumps of them, this seemed odd to me. Check your ceiling to see if you have these. You will have to stand on a chair to really see well. If they are roller hair of some sort or paint stuff I do not think they would be spaced so evenly and without any clumps of them. I have air conditioning and the vents do look a bit yellowish under black light. If you want to see a mess go in the bath room, I will do that tonight just to see. Sadsac, a black light may be very nice to look at the group in the meeting, if they have piles of fibers that will show up, my fiber type things was long ago, but is over now.
