Default Need advice for doctor visit.

Hi all! I'm going to be seeing a new dermatologist tomorrow to have a look at my chin and I'm looking for some advice before I go. My lesion is now the size of a dime with white/clear things that need to be "popped" out everywhere. The skin around it is red and swollen, about the size of a quarter and the whole thing is covered in yummy puss. It looks like staph until you see the "beans" coming out. Anyways, I just don't want to get another bad diagnosis only to be brushed off again. Any advice would be great! Thanks!

Hey Meg,
I wish we ALL could be with you when you go to your appointment. All I can say is, if that new derm doesn't order some kind of biopsy ask him/her why not? Just ask what he/she thinks right off the bat. You size him/her up while he/she is sizing you up. You have learned so much now and you should just demand some answers.

Put him/her on the spot. Calmly, quietly.

Looking forward to hearing how it went.

Hi Meg,

I quite liked Margo's advice to Seasprite about her Infectious Disease appointment (some advice still applies):

HELP! ADVICE for appointment tomorrow on infectious disease doc

you may need to play it by ear a bit.

I'll be thinking of ya

Thanks guys (gals)! I need to make a list tonight of my symptoms or I'll never remember tomorrow. Do you think I should take a photo of that big glob thing that came out of my lesion months ago? I don't want to freak them out or look delusional, but this thing did come out of me.You have to see this!!

Hi ya Meg,

I think taking the photo is a good idea - it happened and it will help explain the characteristics of these open lesions.

For interest, you could ask them if they've seen similar before and ask them, what they think it is.

Good luck and may you be cool, calm and collected ;o)

Hi Meg,
I want you to remember not to get your hopes up too much. Unless things have changed since my last derm appointment you'll come away with another DOP diaganosis or waiting for some useless test results that will come back negative anyway.
l'm being negative l know, but l don't want you to expect too much.
Maybe you'll get lucky though. Some others have.
l hope this is the case for you.Good Luck Meg

Meg,
Do you remember something I posted that looked exactly like what your pictures do? It was back then, but I can't find it.
I can't even believe how horrific an ordeal you are going through. If this doctor isn't horrified and doesn't take action, he/she should have his/her license taken away.

Default Update on visit.

Well Carla, I'd like to say you were wrong - but you were right on the money. Once again I got the, "uh huh", "yeah, that's normal", and the kicker - when I showed her the photo she said it just looked like tissue. I'm sorry, I'm pretty sure I've never had a glob of "tissue" like that ever come out of my face before. She did a shave biopsy because she said it looks like cancer. Gotten that one before with negative results. When I saw the so-called biopsy, it was so tiny I've had fingernail slivers bigger. I can't imagine what they'd find in something so small. Of course they won't find anything because she took it on the wrong side of the lesion. She literally cut a piece of normal flesh, making my lesion bigger and left the area where there were "beans" popping out. I didn't know all this until I got home and took the giant maxipad they call gauze off my face to see it. I couldn't believe it. So disappointed. Worse part is I didn't get any prescriptions, my face is still swelling up (the reason I called a new doctor in the first place), the pain is unbearable and the puss remains. So here I sit for a week until the negative results come back. I even asked for them to remove the lesion or burn it off, with no avail. I really hate doctors these days. What happened to the ones that got to know you and actually cared about making you well. Those days are gone I guess.

Sorry for being such a downer. Thanks for listening.

Kritters - I still remember the picture you're talking about from a mold article. I don't know where it'd be on here now. I'm sure a search would pull it up some how. It really looked similar, but I haven't been able to find any other info on it on the web except what you found. Very interesting subject though. Wish I could find more.

Jo - thanks for the advice this morning! You got me pumped to go! Too bad I lost my spine half way through the appointment.

Meg,
I wish we could all be with you right now, physically, sitting around with you and giving some comfort.

How about calling that doctor and telling her she took tissue from an area that wasn't infected? I can't believe she looked at the same photo we saw and wasn't horrified. Is your lesion different now? You need to read her the riot act. I'm really pissed.
