Default Advice on Yeast Overgrowth Please

This is something I can't ask mom's doctor so I thought who would know better than this group about yeast. Mom is 87 and has late stage Alzheimer's and morgellons that she got from me. I've been treating mom with antibiotics for over a year, but didn't think about a yeast problem. The last few months the doctor says yeast has seemed to take over her body, but doesn't know how that happened. She has it in her throat and mouth, feet, and just about all over her skin. Personally, I can only see the white on her feet. He gave me nystatin for her feet, but I need something internal that won't get rid of it to fast as she is older, but hopefully cut down on the itching from everywhere. Does anyone take anything for yeast and if so, how much and what have you found to work. I tried yogurt, she won't eat it. I have no bathtub for her either, it's upstairs and she can't get up there. Thank You for any help. Snow

This is a shot in the dark, but is it worth considering using like against like?
Would an intake of beneficial yeast strains overtake the colonization of the undesirable ones?
I'm thinking brewers yeast.

Hi Snowlady
If you are into herbal supplement Cumanda is very good for fighting yeast it is internal. It works very well for me, you can read up on it on the web or ask her doctor. I am not a doctor only a person with morgellons.

take care

Hi Snowlady,

I can recommend some herbal remedies, which can be taken internally:

Cumanda (mentioned by Nick below)
olive leaf extract
oregano oil
grapefruit seed extract

All these are anti-fungals which might be useful to rotate. I'd recommend choosing one and starting with small doses.

I take the oregano and grapefruit as liquid in a glass of luke warm water. This way it may also help your mom's throat and mouth, although it doesnt taste great, so you may need to flavour it.

You could try using a spray/cloth wash routine using nizoral anti-dandruff shampoo and eco-vie as part of skin treatment.

I wouldnt recommend taking brewers yeast. However, I would recommend probiotics.

Diet is important too...This page maybe useful: http://www.wholesaleherbs.com/yeast.html

All good wishes

Jo xx

Found out about brewer's yeast the hard way--really bad allergies developed plus stomach aches. Maybe not all will have similar experience, but I did. Pre-morgellons for me BTW.

A good herbal formula for fungus that I have tried is Raintree Nutrition Amazon A-F.

I was happy to see some responses as this one had me puzzled. Thank you all for the good suggestions. I'll check out the websites and start her on something that is relatively harmless. It's difficult to treat someone elderly who can't tell you if they have any side effects. Snow

Try kefir and banana shake/smoothie made in the blender. Kefir is a great pro-biotic and comes in many flavors. I just turned my 96 year old grandma on to raspberry kefir and she loves it. The banana might help mask the yogurt taste of the kefir.

Add a shot of bourbon for extra zing! ...just kidding...

Maybe I'll toss the bourbon in for myself No, don't drink, but I like your shake/smoothie idea and I like that your have given it to your grandma and she has done ok with it. A lot of great ideas, thank you all.

Check out some of the anti - candida info. that Bubba posted. I have been hearing great things about treelac/threelac (various names) in all the naturopathic circles. Here's one site giving info. http://www.candidasupport.org/threelac.html and I know that Gene'sallnatural site sells it. I can vouch for him. His products come quickly and I've always been pleased.

The only thing that I don't know is how it will affect an elderly patient. Most naturopaths will state it is less toxic than all the meds that society pops.
