Default low body temp? who is cold

last time i went to the doctor, well had trouble getting temp reading. after 5 tries it read 94 degrees, 4.5 degrees below normal. i consulted my stepdad, a former rn who has helped me alot, and he said he used to test on himself first if got a reading like that from a patient to make sure the thermometer working. (he is super smart). so next time, if i see doc have this problem request this if they have trouble getting a reading. i did some weeks ago, have a fever and chills and i had a pitiful body temp of 99 degrees. ??? i have been unable to have a high fever since i became sick with morgellons disease. i also lately have been hovering near a portable heater to warm myself up. thank god my husband is home he is warm and toasty. i would like feedback on others who are experiencing this, (LC).

Try looking at this site (it is a commercial site but does discuss low body temperatures):

http://www.wilsonsthyroidsyndrome.com

Might check your thyroid function. Borderline function is harder to detect--need a doctor who is more liberal in interpreting and treating, as many doctors treat only by test numbers not symptoms. Hypothyroid function effects the whole immune system adversely.

Another area affecting low body temperatures is the adrenals. I have posted about this in past. There is the standard test for adrenals most doctors do and the ASI test (which is a saliva test) which alternative doctors use.

Also the winter season in TCM is controlled by Kidney (adrenal) function. It may cause the body to become colder if the function is weak (the kidneys radiate some warmth to the body).

restorative doctor? i like this idea ALOT. something new i did not know about THANKS tcmgpt13, very nice link indeed.i also wonder if my white bloodcell count is low. i know that whitebloodcells are our immune defense, and very important like the thyroid gland. i think research these restorative docs, very interesting. i am an advocate of natural medicine, many turn to it in here because it helps them. this is for oncologic cancer doctors, but interesting: http://www.oncanp.org/ (LC).

Patrice,

Sounds like a cool outfit. You Europeans always look so stylish and are always easy to spot here in the US.

I'm thinking our blood is cold because of the nasty cold-blooded critters running through it.

It's okay.

Cold hands/warm heart.

Another addition to cold body temperature problems felt by those in the northern regions of the world in winter is that the circulatory system itself (blood thickens in cold weather) slows in the winter which makes it harder to keep the limbs and external areas of the body warm. In addition I have also posted in the past about heavy metals found in the body, particularly mercury, which will most likely lower body temperatures as well. And yes, I agree with Pat probably any chronic illness will affect the body and make it feel colder. Then there is the one we all hate to hear. Advancing years will also see a normal decline in body heat, as the organs in the body become less efficient and slow.

Pat, is the silk warmer than the thicker thermal underwear? I have heard that it is and wonder what you think. I know Yorkshire gets extremely cold.

best, tcm

I walk alot as exercise. Instead of using a car, I walk to stores and carry stuff home all the time. Sounds pathetic, but what i do. I am not skinny, but not superfat either. I am a sz 16. During the course of this disease and I, have lost 24 lbs. However, I believe it is healthy due to some changes in my diet and the walking. Sometimes I walk just to stretch my legs. i also sing to music on occasion, which seems to keep my lungs healthy. I sometimes dance to music videos on the computer. lame, i know, but fun. What i do to keep warm is i find the NEWER portable heaters are safer. I have a nice one at my feet at the moment. of course keep a safe distance from it. I also have in my room. My ducts are just too dirty to run, I need them cleaned. With the heater, having the warmth this problem has lessened as of late. (LC).
