Geographic Patterned Tongue and...

So, today he was sent to the nurse to check his "burnt" tongue. Last week he was sent daily to check for smells. His teacher is an adjunct professor at NSU and has been sending him to the school nurse w/o telling me. Luckily, I have been volunteering hundreds of hours/school year in the past and I am very friendly with the school nurse, but honestly, this stings.

I was not informed today that he was sent to the nurse, but he told me in the car. I called and LM and then emailed the information that I had based on the few conversations that I had with our MD.

Well, after digging deeper and letting go of my sensitivity and emotional defensiveness, I read that this can also be a sign of a compromised immune system. To be honest, his tongue has always looked like a leopard patterned fungus. He never complains and is the most healthy of the 3 of us. His CD57 is the highest (98 compared to 65 and 2 I have to take it as another sign.

It's been tough these past 2 weeks - an ear biopsy, removal of old metal fillings, new fillings in NEW cavities and more acceptance that this is more than I care to admit.

I cannot believe that I am still in a weird state of pseudo denial. I run with the good days, sometimes weeks and try so hard to believe it is only Lymes.

The hair on top of my head is rubbery elastic like pseudo hair. When the wind blows, I can see the lint/filaments blow off of me. It used to be just lint and now it's move than that...I don't care to admit, but know to be true.

There have been 4 strokes in this complex in victims ranging 33 - 55. The 55 y/o died. My neighbor had this weird bacterial infection that hits around the mouth. It took several doctors before she had a diagnosis of impetigo.

Anyway, has anyone been tested for meningoencephalitis? I think that some of the more challenged mentally may be fighting the bacteria in the brain. I believe that the untreated Lymes really does a number on us. I keep thanking God for my original brain which got me this far. I know I will get my life back.

I have to find a local doctor to hold my hand during this trial. I cannot do this alone.I am struggling to keep it together and I need to get tested for everything under the sun. I have been so busy pretending and praying that I may have swept more under the carpet than I care to admit. We have so many highs and lows on our labs and I am so confused.

Time for bath and bed. I might as well be 8 y/o these days. If it's not on my list, it doesn't exist. My poor kids. If they only knew the previous me.

melissa i am so sorry to hear this about your kid. i do not really know what to say, except probitics like yogurt or kefir or chewable strawberry acidophilus good bacteria fight the bad. if kids teeth okay see if can get to chew some sugarless mint gum with xylotol, which helps clean stuff up. a regular doc should look at kids tongue if no mention of morgellons disease, afterall there is swuch a thing as trenchmouth, i know used to use extract of genetian violet for this and athletes foot can still find on drugstore.com. ONE BIG DRAWBACK, SUPER PURPLE VIOLET STAINS WHATEVER THE EXTRACT TOUCHES ( a purple tongue?). the only reason know of this stuff my grnapa when alive was old timey pharmacist had lots of weird stuff in house . lemme do a search see what i can find regarding this. well trenchmouth does not decribe the tongue hmm. here is something dermatologists describe as hairy tongue from candida, and yes can be white: http://www.emedicine.com/derm/topic639.htm . remember can be white. my advice: does child know how to brush tongue? or have you tried tongue scraper can get yourself one teach him how, he might think it fun. i personally use baking soda peroxide toothpaste. let me know what you have tried, and we can go from there, (LC).

OMG! I too have geographic tounge! now it is splitting down the middle- The rest of family has had some issues with tounge- on and off- swelling and thrush.

After 5 years of so many labs going up and down- signifigant findings that have been ignored< I have pretty much given up on any more testing.

I have also noted that everyone in our lives (when the illness began, nobody really left around any more) has ended up with strange symptoms or diagnosies. I do notice how people grasp on to a diagnosis of unknown eitology and I with I could just settle for that answer but that is just plain crazy when I can physically see this crap daily.

i also wanted to add, that peroxide used on toothbrush, before after use. when brush put baking soda peroxide toothpaste, then dip brush in baking soda, then if brave a little peroxide mouth to get rrabid foaming dog effect, lol. scraping tongue sterilize with peroxide before and after will help tongue. this is downplayed but symptom of candida, or fungus. salt water garlgels may help too may be warm and strong. this disease hates mint and clove, these oils useful for mouth. also menthol coughdrops make theives oil lozenges, and if have teeth dentyne ice artic chill and mint gel filled winter chill helps get junk out of mouth. like sticky tape and gets gunk out of mouth. if initally gets " bad taste, spit out get fresh piece until bad taste gone. 15 minutes chewing can help. I started having trouble with my tongue 9 years ago.very sore very white,cracks appeared.The hospital said it was Lichen Planus but none of the treatment worked.The only thing I found gave any relief was Daktarin oral gel-for fungus.What a coincidence.I don't think!
Mint or anything like that send me through roof the pain is so bad.
My dentist refers to it as geographical tongue.Over the last months my inner cheek really swells so when eating I am constantly biting it.
After following LC's tips hydrogen peroxide mouthwashes and salt I have found it to be not as painful.Last week after brushing teeth i noticed abrown speck stuck on inner cheek.I did a really strong peroxide wash and it came out unfortunately shot down plug hole but it left a big hole in cheek.So it seems that they don't like the peroxide,but do try the Daktarin as well.

As usual you sent a great link. I already sent that dentist an email asking about a condition my friend has. She's a nurse practitioner and has an excessive daily teeth plaque. I had already told her to swish daily with water/h2o2/salt, but maybe this guy know more about her specific condition.

Okay, so, now I feel stupid and sick and so are the kids. Jared was complaining about cuts in his mouth the week that the kids at school got sick and I have been getting this weird swollen inner cheek on and off and thought it stemmed from biting it one time.

Noah's tongue changes and today looks like ring worm of the tongue. I just wanted them to be happy and healthy. I have them in sports and lots of activities so they will participate in life. I was a competitive athlete and not being able to do cardio is also depressing.

So, now what? I also found the specks in and aroung a tooth and got it out, but I realize that my horizontal tooth decay is from this....I have to have them brush more.

Why do you think we are having this setback? Noah has little brown pinhead scabs in his ears and corners of his eyes. I cleaned out the entire refrigerator last night and found the same specs...Last year, it would have just been dirt.

I feel for you with the children. I don't know how you cope. I have my little grandson for a few hours each week. He had symptoms before I did bit he seems to be holding is own but I watch out for any little sign. He seems to be full of energy and I think it is important to keep the children active - as you are doing.

LC and Patrice - your advice about the dental hygiene is so good and I need to use the hydrogen peroxide more. LC, I am so interested in you mentioning the cloves. I've taken to adding clove poweder to everything and adding clove oil to my sprays.

I'v noticed recently that my tongue is quite pink - for a long time it's had a thick white fur. Not attractive. But now getting pinker all the time and no coating at all at the tip. I use a toothbrush with a ribbed back to clean my tongue and cheeks.

I think that Dr Burascanno's tips are good and he says that after cleaning your teeth you should then take some plain yoghurt as that keeps your mouth clean.

One of the first signs (in retrospect) was little cuts on the roof of my mouth. This used to waken me up and I would brush my teeth and take anti-histamine and plain yoghurt. This was several years ago. I only get this occasionally now.

I feel as though I am getting better all the time. Last year I was so ill that I did not think I would see this year.
I say this for people who are new to this condition. There are ways to get on top of it and lots of great advice from people on the forum - including Bubba's protocol.

I was in Whole Foods the other day with the boys and an employee gave the boys a health bar- Noah started screaming about his tongue and I had to run and get him a yogurt - this was the first time EVER that he complained about his patterned tongue. Each situation seems to be waiting around the corner while we wait for real answers.

I'm off to bike ride and pretend to be normal...Hopefully, the fibers will fly off in the wind after sweating and I'll shower and meet the boys at the school parade without feeling toxic
