OMG, Kool! Nescafe' the coffee substitute! I remember that as a kid with the crystals for instant coffee! I wonder if it's the same in nutritive and therapeutic value? Do they even sell Nescafe now? Amazing!

Well I have to say it reduces the itching by 60%, the first day, but my musical twitching is still there, and my stomach noises still there, I’ll keep updates

Wow - thats quick. Some herbs etc take 3 months to take effect.

I had terrible stomach noises for years, which have gone now. Wish i knew which treatment did the trick, probably a combination of stuff. Do you get fatigue?

Question Fava Bean (Broad bean)

This thread started off about velvet beans.

The Fava bean (broad bean) is chemically very similar and I used to love them as a 10 year old.

Just tried them again and twice now they have given me stomach upset. So naturally I'm wondering why?

I've found out the following:
  • they can help fight malaria
  • like Velvet beans they contain L-dopa, used to treat Parkinsons
  • they contain Tyramine which produces Catecholamines
  • in plants Catecholamines have a possible protective role against insect predators, and injuries to plant structures
  • they may help balance hormones
  • in patients with the hereditary condition glucose-6-phospate dehydrogenase deficiency, eaten raw, they can be fatal. This potentially fatal condition is called "favism"
  • anyone taking monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors (anti-depressants) shouldn't eat them, due to hypertension crisis

Is it my morgs that dislikes them, or my gut?

Anyone else have a funny reaction to broad beans? I'd be interested to know.

Jo xxx
