Out here in the "enlightened West coast" (ha-ha) they will collect your organic and yard & lawn waste SEPARATE from the garbage, and mix that with left-over wood products that are ground up, in order to create recycled community "compost-mulch" to SELL to help pay for the costs of curbside recycling program!! We are charged by the size of can that we collect of regular trash for the landfill each week, but everything that we managed to pull out for the curbside recycling gets picked up for free...

Ours is the same...almost...we also get leaves and branches and grass, etc picked up separately...I hadn't really thought about what they do with it, but probably the same...why else would they pick it up separately? Not sure if we pay a price for trash pickup such as that or not...but we pay one price for garbage pickup...doesn't matter how much we have, that I know of...people always have more than a "Herbie Curbie" holds....is that your name for them there..? That is what we hillbillies call them...ha...Kentucky haze

Hi Franky,

Thanks for the info about mites. I am allergic to dust mites.I was wondering if maybe my itching head and hair loss may be from demodex mites. Is there a treatment for for this for humans? I have heard there is a pill for horses with these kind of mites.
I sometimes wonder why God made biting bugs in the first place, especially those that bite humans?

Hi Michelle thank you for your post. I am being driven nuts with these fibres all over my clothes and washing. I have thrown out some really good clothes and nightwear etc because of these wretched fibres. They change colour in accord with the colour they have penetrated. They are mainly white. It is soo good to be able to talk to someone else about them as some times I think that I am going nuts and my daughter would be furious is she new how many clothes I have thrown out. I just can not wear them. Among the worst are my bras' It is really helpful to know that I am not the only pwerson in the world who is experiencing these things. Love and best wishes. Roberta.

Dust mites are tiny insects that are invisible to the naked eye. Every home has dust mites. They feed on human skin flakes and are found in mattresses, pillows, carpets, upholstered furniture, bedcovers, clothes, stuffed toys and fabric and fabric-covered items. Body parts and feces from dust mites can trigger asthma in individuals with allergic reactions to dust mites, and exposure to dust mites can cause asthma in children who have not previously exhibited asthma symptoms.

Preventive Strategies

* Use a dehumidifier or air conditioner to maintain relative humidity at about 50% or below.
* Encase your mattress and pillows in dust-proof or allergen impermeable covers (available from specialty supply mail order companies, bedding and some department stores).
* Wash all bedding and blankets once a week in hot water (at least 130 - 140°F) to kill dust mites. Non-washable bedding can be frozen overnight to kill dust mites.
* Replace wool or feathered bedding with synthetic materials and traditional stuffed animals with washable ones.
* If possible, replace wall-to-wall carpets in bedrooms with bare floors (linoleum, tile or wood) and remove fabric curtains and upholstered furniture.
* Use a damp mop or rag to remove dust. Never use a dry cloth since this just stirs up mite allergens.
* Use a vacuum cleaner with either a double-layered microfilter bag or a HEPA filter to trap allergens that pass through a vacuum's exhaust.
* Wear a mask while vacuuming to avoid inhaling allergens, and stay out of the vacuumed area for 20 minutes to allow any dust and allergens to settle after vacuuming.

Dear Michelle I know that it is a long time since I have read your post. But the awnser is yes. I have had to throw out so many of my clothes because of these mites. They live and seem to form a web in our clothing and on our body. I also have them in my bed linen and all through my furniture. I spray my furniture with disenfectant every monring. I wash my bed clothes and clothing every day and I still cannot get rid of them. Two things that I do know that affects them is boiling hot water and very very cold water or atmosphere. If I walk my dog on a cold frosty morning they appear in my clothing and in my dogs coat. I have had my blankets packed in plastric bags and sealed tightly and that does not kill them. I have had this for 11 years and I am at the end of my tether. I find it so hard to believe but they breed prolifically. If you put a new item of clothing next to an older one the new one will get infected with this thing in one day!!!!!!!! Wish I could help you more. I keep faace clothes in the deep freeze and if the itching gets too bad I rub the itchy area with the frozen face clothes quite hard and this really does help. Off course the power bill goes up because I am using soo much boiling water. Hang in there keep your chin up. Very best wishes. Roberta.
