| hi, all well sometimes i find when things get a bit mundane, getting away can be just the answer. i am currently in Albuquerque, NM and view from hubbies hotel is quite beautiful. on the horizon are cool things like extinct volcanoes and a variety of mountains. the drive out here was on greyhound , which i never thought id never ride them again, but was on a new bus, and the eight hour drive was scenic. we actually drove over the top of a mountain, which was dusted with snow, and the evergreens had the merry atmosphere of Christmas. i saw buttes and mesas and mountains topped with snow, or covered in trees and ones which were topped in snow and riddled with crags carved through the millenia. i even saw mountains looking like huge heaps of sand. went over the Rio Grande Gorge, the ancient river tiny far below in its meandering twists. i also passed through Taos, NM. this was the highlight of my trip. i was surrounded by a variety mountains on all three sides. some were so high hard to tell where they left off and the sky began. going through downtown, all buildings were of adobe, and there were many art galleries and hotels and quaint restaurants. this is the home of Julia Roberts ad Shirley McClaine. anyway, was real cool, we saw antelope on the drive too! we also saw plots of free land, and the abodes of homesteaders carving their own empire from nothing. all the way from shanty shacks, to partially underground homes, yurts, and even domes! sign said could live there free how neato! also stopped in Santa fe cool places in America can still be a pioneer. anyway, was a nice little adventure and glad to see my nice hubby again for visit!
