| Apparently, scientists from Monash University in Melbourne Australia have announced a discovery of a successful treatment for malaria that can lead to new and more powerful drugs, in the fight against malaria. The scientists have identified a chemical compound which when used, stops the parasites digestion. Within a few days, the malaria-infected mice were malaria free, as the parasites were starved to death. This is great news as malaria is a vector-borne infectious disease and takes lives of more than a million people per year and many of them sadly are children under five. There is also the growing concern over the fact that it is becoming harder to treat with standard treatments. |
